I've been to 4 "Muslim" countries. Beyond the fanatical members - as you have here also in their own different religions but equally as nutty - there is much regular life with much that is quite normal. Teachers, administrators and other staff all have to do a certain amount of professional development in any given year. Districts are pressured by the state to implement large scale initiatives on whatever the soup du jour is at the time. Small scale, 10k gets wasted on having a local queer group come to a school to deliver poorly photocopied GLSEN propaganda to teachers.
