I mean, really, how many "prequel", "sequel", "soft reboot" or "set in the universe of" TV shows based on other shows, movies, etc. have there been on cable and streaming services during the past several years that come and go with little to no notice, where if you look at the plot summaries and so on the show's mere existence comes off as contrived and thin, like they barely have come up with enough material for one episode, much less a whole season and the episodes are just full of padding.
The only good ones I can recall are Hannibal and Bates Motel, both from the early 2010s, both horror or horror-adjacent so on topic for this thread. Bates Motel was kind of soap-y but it occasionally got really dark/gruesome which was always fun.

After years of watching reviews about Event Horizon I finally watched it tonight and have to say it left me disappointed. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad movie at all, it’s actually a super interesting concept I’d love to see fleshed out into a book. The practical effects were good and nothing beats the classic cheesiness of 90s movies lol
But I never fell for any of the jumpscares and the true horrors (like the hell sequences) were too short to make any real impact
Super depressing to know that the cut with the more explicit stuff has been lost to time.

And after watching it I realized that a lot of the concepts in the movie Sunshine seemed like they were ripped straight from Event Horizon (or at least very heavily inspired by it)

it's some of the greatest spaceship sets in search of a better movie
I liked it and it's still better than the official Hellraiser In Space
also lol microsoft natural keyboard with the narrowmouth coke can dating the production down to, like, the month

Personally I was a big fan of the over the top sound design and foley, shit was borderline cartoonish

Also posted in the reading thread but it's a horror novel so it counts.

Started Hell Hound by Ken Greenhall. This was published in the 70s and adapted into a French film in the 80s. This novel was pretty much lost to time until New York Times bestseller and horror author Grady Hendrix's Paperbacks from Hell project. So far it's a blast.

There is never laughter in this house; only the dull sounds of age and weakness. I have a strength and resourcefulness that the old woman probably never had.

‘What are the possibilities of my strength? That is a thought I have never had before. What if some morning as the old woman stood at the head of the staircase she were suddenly to feel a weight thrusting against the back of her legs? What if she were to lunge forward, grasping at the air, striking her thin skull against the edge of a stair? What would become of me if she were found unmoving at the bottom of the stairway?’

Such are the thoughts of Baxter, a sociopathic bull terrier on the hunt for the perfect master, as he contemplates the demise of his first victim.

I agree. They didn’t take away from the quality of the movie at all. It brought so much nostalgia hearing the wilhelm screams and punching sounds, especially in the fight between Weir and the captain lmao

The crews fucked up appearances after being tainted by the ship really did give major cenobite vibes. Especially Dr Weir’s
I absolutely loved that aspect of the film.

"no, see, the mysterious unknowable thing that opens into horror is ROUND, not CUBE. it's very different"

Every clown-based horror film I've seen, has at most, earned a "...Meh." from me. I like the IT movies, including the 1990 miniseries, but, for me, they're not binge-watchable.

Clown, from 2014, which I've sperged on about before at one point, I find interesting because it delves into the mythical idea of the demonic association with clowns and the resulting coulrophobia.

The film's mythology has a monster that ate kids in medieval times, in Germany, called the Clöyne, which, after eventually been dealt with, ends up in a costume box, hundreds of years later, found by a guy who wants to dress as a clown for his son's birthday party, and finds he can't take it off.

Have you seen Stiches from 2012? It's a horror comedy which I think fits with a killer clown and even add lore to clowns that is based on the real way they copyright a clowns face paint. It has some good kills in it too.

Speaking of Event Horizon, any horror movies about space or ocean with hardmode: no lovecraft? Already watched Aliens and 1989 Leviathan.
I was so disappointed about Underwater pulling the 'ITS NIGGERMAN CTHULHU" card out of nowhere, it seems the cast was fucking about with unknown creatures from the deep dark ocean when there was no hints about some giant green squid to copout the audience.

Deepstar Six. It's cheesy as Hell, but I think it's what you're going for.

Pandorum is seen as a spiritual sequel of Event Horizon or at least taking place in the same universe.
