Happy Friday the 13th! I got to see part 3 and 4 in theaters. I’ve always wanted to see 3 in actual 3D. Getting to experience that was so much fun. I can’t wait to see 6 in theaters in October.

Stretching the definition of "Horror" here but felt I should do the sneedful and let anyone who was either dreading or all hopium'd up over the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot know that that shit has been shitcanned due to the pilot being so unfathomably bad even currentyear reboot addicted television doesn't want that shit to see the light of day

Some may recall this same thing happening to the Powerpuff Girls CW series pilot, so maybe we will see just how abject it was in a couple years

Undertone wasn't all that great. I got nothing out of watching that in the theater. Probably better at home.
I was just talking about it with a friend actually. There's just a lot going on for 90 minutes of story. Maybe too much. The script needed some streamlining and more time in the oven. The director was also the writer, and he's a 60+ year old guy and this is his first movie. In fact, it's his first real break into this medium at all.

undertone was good in idea, middling in execution. An audio-centric movie was great since audio design is barely talked about in general; hell, for modern people, I rave about Talk to Me because the movie is great with headphones, you can feel every door knock.
undertone's story has some weird ideas that is not really talked about much, like Eve happening to be pregnant but it is only brought up again because the demon happens to haunt pregnant women or mothers. There is a lot left like this in the movie that feels like first draft stuff that was forgotten to be cut from the final script and was remembered when they started working in it.
You already got most of the points I have in your spoiler breakdown and funnily also me expecting an audio version of Late Night with the Devil. My only complaint that wasn't listed is that some of the sounds can be rough on the ears, especially a high-pitched one at the beginning.

He happened to land on Paranormal Activity after this, so as long as he learns from undertone, he might be a nice director with a specific niche.

I finally got around to watching A Serbian Film. Eh. I'm halfway between disappointed and relieved that it's not all it's memed to be.

It's not that I'm that much of a jaded edgelord. I watched it sandwiched between A Bell from Hell and Premutos: The Fallen Angel, and imo, it was the tamest of the three. I had to pause Premutos to go dry heave... would not watch again.

I don't see how he screws that up. The movie is basically one giant Paranormal Activity. In fact, he hits multiple tropes from Paranormal Activity. Panning shots leading away from a scene, the fixated structure, narrative within a narrative, modern tech gimmick of the year, these are all beats Paranormal Activity did across the entire series.

This is the problem with making anything with audio focus though. My TV has terrible speakers, they may as well be 90's mono. My computer has a high quality surround sound set up. My head phones are some where in the middle.

How the hell do you balance an audio focused movie with those 3 different things?

It has been a long time since I last watched Paranormal Activity, I barely remember the last film Next of Kin but I still remember a shot with someone on fire where church bells are ringing in the background on a snowy setting. It wasn't scary or anything, it was pretty.
Speaking of PA, I'm pretty sure Next of Kin was intended to be the finale, so they probably saw something in him to revive after 4 years.

Yeah, I agree on the problem too. Out of all gimmicks, audio focused movies are probably the most fucked when out of theaters. At least you can ignore wacky colors from 3D movies.

true, i honestly don't know why I bothered to watch Next of Kin even if it has one good shot
probably to just finally end the painful ride for myself
They were a pretty darn niche hole.

Why did everyone lie to me and tell me Tusk was good
Tusk is a Kevin Smith movie. If you didn't know what you were getting into the moment you saw his name, I don't know what to tell you.

We just wanted to see if you'd actually watch a Kevin Smith movie, can't believe you fell for that lmao
I somehow went into it totally blind, so you can imagine my face when I saw his name come up.

I don’t know why people shat on Scream 7 so hard. It’s perfectly fine popcorn flick. Has Scream 3 vibes in a good way. Not the best, but if you like the franchise I really liked it overall even if it’s just mostly dumb fun. It is normie trash, but there’s nothing wrong with that if it’s entertaining and you’re watching it with friends and shit
