I've said this two times already, but the futility of choice is purposeful and completely and utterly serves the intent of the story.
The futility of choice works its way into the racism angle. Namely, your character is white and whiteness is irrevocably tied to racism across every universe. White people
cannot escape racism. Booker tries killing himself (Comstock) and this solves nothing because Elizabeth tells you that there are infinite Comstocks in other universes. Therefore the only
real choice is to remove the
entire concept of choice altogether and embrace
nihilism. Booker therefore has to prevent himself from ever even being born, which is basically what the ending is about.
What's even more fucked up is Elizabeth essentially self-aborts when she does this because as soon as Booker stops existing, so does she.
