"Teaching opinions" is retarded by definition, opinion is subjective. School must provide a basic set of skills that should give human species basic ability to draw basic conclusions about the world that surrounds him/her. What human does further with that set of skills doesn't cocnern me.

And that requires common agreement on what those basic conclusions are, which is a subject of political conflict. Case in point: many public schools now teach children the "basic conclusions" that if Sally likes to play with trucks instead of dollhouses, maybe Sally is really Steve. This is presented to children not as opinion, but as objective fact.
