(2 weeks ago) So let's review: You don't own this game and only played a short demonstration and based on your limited exposure of this game, you've deemed it "great". Meanwhile, this guy plays this game and thousands of other games from beginning to end and evaluates every aspect of them whether he wants to or not, because it's his job. With all that into consideration, who has the most authority on the subject? I'm thinking the professional critic who actually FINISHED the game.

I hate that every game that tries to do something different in a series is bashed for it.

Mario carries a water thing instead of getting power ups? Mario sunshine sucks.

Sonic turns into a were hog instead of running fast? Sonic unleashed sucks

Ratched and clank do tower defense? Ratched and clank full frontal assault sucks.

This is the reason why nowadays we just have the same Mario, cod, and Zelda being milked over and over

seb palmer said:
Indeed, it seems when people complain about something being repetitive, developers add something new. Although when they do that, they also complain.

Although the reason why the cod games are the same is because activision can pass them off as different to stupid, gullible customers. So they can get their money.

Ex-employees of Sega who try to defend their idea that got them fired. Either way, I'm glad neither Sega nor history agrees with you.

d8910productions said:
Or people like the puzzles, platforming, and combat in the were hog stages.

If you're going to say God of war (I haven't played the others you mentioned) is better at least name why. The wetehog has tons of combos and quick time events and defeating enemies is satisfying. Also, some people are like me and don't like the amount of violence in the God of war games.

d8910productions said:
When I think of good puzzles, I think of Monkey Island, Professor Layton, or Portal. When I think of good platforming, I think of Super Mario World, Prince of Persia, or Rayman. I don't think of stretchy arms with bad targeting, annoying bottomless pits, or awful camera angles that cause you to die. Also, I think you pretty much proved one of my points when you said "I haven't played the others you mentioned." They control better, offer more variety, and are more polished than the warehog.

d8910productions said:
I said good puzzle not amazing puzzle.

What you said about platforming is just your opinion. If you don't like the wetehog stages just shut up and enjoy the games you do like. You don't have to bash people that don't after with your opinion.

Isn't God of war considered the best hack n' slash game? I've seen gameplay of the others and while they are more polished than were hog stages that doesn't mean that the wrtehog sucks.

DarkspineAllie said:
nah, bayonetta or devil may cry 3 are considered the best, generally. god of war is considered the best by god of war fans.

d8910productions said:
Bayonetta sucks on ps3 which is what I played it on.

My point was just that you can't complain about the were hog stages. You might not like them butt you have to admit they're well designed. They might not be the best hack n' slash stages but no one complains about sonic color's power ups not being as good as Mario's.

hall9111 said:
I said good puzzles as well.

Yes, enjoyment of a game is subjective, but if you're going to play that card, I offer this to you as a rebuttal: tell me how much fun you had falling into pits not because of your lack of gaming skills, but because the camera didn't give you a good enough view or your stupid stretchy arm move was off target. Were you happy about the prospect of having to fight enemy after enemy and then wandering around an empty area all over again to get back to where you died?

d8910productions said:
No offense but you suck at this game. The camera and arm moves work fine and I have never seen ANYONE complain about those things in this game but you. Not even this stupid review that bashes this game complains about the camera or stretchy arms.

hall9111 said:
Yahtzee Croshaw, Matt Casamassina, Ben Reeves, and just about everyone I know who played this game complained about the camera and the arm. You must be really out of touch with games if you can't find any faults in the werehog stages.

Also, I find it a bit hypocritical that you berate me for asking you to articulately explain your enjoyment of this game and then proceed to call this review "stupid." Why? Because he disagrees with you? At least he adequately explained the reasons of his view.

SweetMayCutie4lyfe said:

Well, in Sonic's case, the problem was that the games went too far with trying different things. There's nothing wrong with adding something new, but if it's to the point where it causes an identity crisis with the rest of the game, there's a problem. The biggest problem with this game and the Adventure games was that it felt like you were forced to play multiple, different games in one. For an example, for half of Unleashed I'm playing a platformer ... and the other half a beat-em-up?

d8910productions said:
I don't see how that's a bad thing. How is an identy crisis? Games like sly cooper and little big planet do these things but no one complains.

i'm gonna give you 3 reasons...

1-It's fucking sonic,you can't hate the character.

2-The games are getting better every time (Sonic Colors,Sonic Generations)

3-Sonic Team (the developers) are listening to fans and are improving the games.

Again,if you don't like sonic, that's okay with me,i'm not gonna rage or anything (and i'm a big sonic fan btw) It's a matter of opinion. If you plan on playing sonic games again this is the right time to do it.

This review on the other hand is BULLSHIT.

I agree, this review is shit but I still think Sonic is crap. 1. I can hate Sonic. He's a pretty annoying character. At least Mario doesn't talk. 2. Colors is okay. hiram765 said:

anyways...yeah Sonic Team should have listened to us a while back, true that,i don't want to get on an argument. Don't like sonic? that's okay with me. You should be afraid of the rest of the fanbase though.

All righty. Yesterday I went to a gaming party at a culture center in my town... And lo and behold, there was some zippin Sonic right there to be played:
Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2.jpg

Okay, now what is so great about this?? I liked Commander Keen back in the days, but this stuff just sucks...

Also, why doesn't Tails rotate all the time while flying? He doesn't have a vertical rotor to balance angular momentum, so his body should spin out of control. Maybe his tail is in fact a hot-tipped active rotor.

It's the Sonic Fanbase, say one minor complaint about Sonic and you will be flamed to oblivion, Also I hate how some people bash Generations (A good game IMO, but too short) for rehashing old levels, well no shit it's a game that celebrates Sonic's 20th ANNIVERSARY, of course it's going to feature levels from older games like Green Hill, City Escape etc.

About IGN I do remember them calling the rings "coins" in their Shadow the Hedgehog review, so I don't take their Sonic game reviews very seriously.

So.. Sonic Lost World is out, and IGN gave it a 5.8 for the Wii U, and there goes the outrage from the Sonic fanbase.

There's even a fucking petition for IGN to redo the review despite there are other reviewers who also gave mediocre to negative reviews about Sonic Lost World on the Wii U.

I would suggest getting SADX for the PC. It's not on Steam, it's on a disc. If you can get past some glitches and shitty voice acting, it has:

Unlock able older games (Sonic, Sonic 2 etc)

Chao garden (a pet simulator, believe me, it's a fun way to kill some time)

6 playable characters, each with different gameplay styles

Mission mode (complete missions that you find in the hub world)

The only sympathetic character in the entire franchise (E-101 Gamma)

The game is very easy to mod and has a decent community of modders.

For me, SADX is an okayish game. The adventure stages are okay to me and kinda fun, (except we can all agree about the Big The Cat one - what is SEGA thinking with this mode) The Chao Garden is pretty fun to pass the time though, which I spent the most time on this mode in this game.

I have a mod for SADX for the PC which you can edit the Chao in the garden. Forgot where's the link, but you can edit the colors and the emotions of the Chao. You could even get a Tails Chao too.

Haven't played the game like years. Wonder should I get back to it.

One does not simply "get into" Sonic.

You must first study the way of BLAST PROCESSING! AUGH YEAH

I'm actually a huge fan of Sonic. But I'm not proud of it, considering the fanbase it's produced. I will also admit that I have every single issue of the Sonic USA comic as well.

I played Sonic ever since I first laid my grubby hands on a Genesis controller when I was around 5 years old, and I believe it was Sonic 2 I played. Today, it's meh. I personally find the first game a hell of a lot enjoyable. Sonic CD is my favorite classic Sonic game whilst Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite modern (Although Rush and Rush Adventure were pretty good too).

I'm going on record to say that:

Favourite classic 2D game- Sonic 2
Favourite modern 2D game- Rush Adventure
Favourite 3D game- Generations (never played the Adventure series or Colours, I have mostly played the less than stellar 3D titles  )

Colors was boring to me. It literally follows the same sort of level design for each zone and it was pretty quick to complete, probably the shortest Sonic game in my opinion.

I have yet to play Generations (needa dispenser PS3 here) but from gameplay videos it doesn't seem too bad. I heard it's at least better with the controls than the clunky gameplay in Sonic 4 (which I loathe) so whatever it takes!

I'm sorry that you had to witness Sonic '06. People who have the audacity to say that it's "not that bad of a game" are idiots.

Personally, if some patches were released for Sonic '06, it might have been passable.

I admit I used to be a Sonic fan back in the 2D days.

I honestly can't leave without saying the series has gone to Hell.
