I'd love to have a remade Darkstalkers, but there's things in the IP that are a level beyond normal risk tolerances can take. The catgirl's explicit human rights struggle and the change-at-puberty-or-a-bit-before thing is going to set someone off. I'm not sure you could get away with Lilith's battle dialog talking about her orgasm either...
Felicia can probably work if you downplay the more risque stuff or play up the horror angle of her being a captive monster and then just go "Screw your optics, I'm going in!" on the edgy elements in general.
Lilith talking about her orgasms might have to be dropped, but that's probably one of those elements that can be easily overlooked if you don't woke out as a whole and just do a small dialogue rewrite.
On the one hand, there is the fact Lilith's only three but is also a supernatural creature so you could make the argument that she's three the same way Bender from Futurama is five years old but I agree that's a little too much and is kinda weird and not in a good way. Give Lilith a different move for the remake.
Plus, the legit creep factor aside, this would incite a lot of unneeded headache especially since it's from Japan and is one of those things that can't be easily brushed off with a "Fuck you, SJW's!" approach.
Yeah, you could have a 50-year old fully clothed married woman in a non-sexual situation drawn in an anime style and the Woke Left will still claim its pedophilic anyway for some reason, but I agree that the Lilith naked with bats is way too iffy.
I'd give her a different move instead and age up Lilith since it's a reboot anyway.
The gender bender move that Demetri does? Go for it.
At that point, it'd just be troons whining as usual and if the people at Capcom were smart about it, they'd pull a Dave Chappelle and just blow them off or maybe even have Poison as a secret guest character just for that extra backhanded "Fuck you, troons!" move. If they shout "muh transphobia", just say Demetri is a bad guy and be done with it.
If your game is actually good on its own, the edge will help it out in this climate. Matter of fact, a game that is a genuinely good game to play but also happens to be edgy and non-woke is pretty much a license to print money in today's climate, even in spite of cancel culture. Joker provided a good equivalent example for movies.
Hatred was edge with no substance and that's why it failed as badly as it did. They were trying to go after the long dead threat of the church ladies and redneck fundies, only to instead get the Woke Left on their asses instead.
A new Darkstalkers game that's also well-made, explicitly non-woke (note that I said non-woke, NOT anti-woke), and is both fun to play and dark and edgy would be a goldmine for Capcom. You'd get the same "Hell freezes over!" boost that the RE2 remake got and it would go over well.
