HUGE Capcom Leak Due To Ransomware - You can thank the group called "Ragnar Locker"

They MIGHT be toying with that idea since they are adding Akira Kazama to the roster of SFV. I think they haven't been gun-ho about that game since the last one was on the Dreamcast, which didn't do too well even though it was supposedly better than the first one on PS1
I really don't understand why Capcom doesn't give Rival Schools and Darkstalkers revivals a go since they've both built up such cult followings over the years.

Look at other companies like Sega, Nintendo, and Konami. They all are notorious for having great past IPs that they have stuck in a dark dungeon for many many years and have done nothing with them even though fans want to see more of them.

Japan might just be really fucking dumb when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Especially given the success of Street of Rage 4

All of Asia is starting to have their HR and marketing people into this stuff. It's starting to enter all of entertainment, not just games.

it's been said before but this is to cater to western audiences and black people. there's korean karoke and resturants in town and its got black koreaboos in it all the time.

Japan is really fucking weird sometimes, I love them of course but every so often they make a decision that just leaves you scratching your head, like blurring out genitals in what is still fucking pornography, the point of that is?

There's no way Capcom could lose enough money to really hurt them with Rival Schools and Darkstalkers revivals, so why not give it a shot?

In the case of Nintendo they seem to have an obsession with always reinventing the wheel with every new game even though that isn't really needed, sometimes more of the same is perfectly fine.

And with Konami yeah, they make a lot of money with pachinko, but they could make even more money by still producing video games in addition to that, but nope, gotta leave money on the table and let valuable ips rot because....

I think the Japanese can be some pretty stubborn people and when they get an idea in their head that don't want to do something for whatever reason they're not going to fucking do it no matter how illogical it may be.

Konami is apparently in talks with Sony to revive their IPs. Considering that Konami was able to help put out the Turbo grafix 16 mini(which was one of the better miniconsoles right next to the SNES Mini) they can do quality work if they're pushed.

Konami recently barred the P.T. Demo from being brought over to PS5 and this was done all on their own accord. So it's being heavily suggested that something horror themed is now in the works.

Didn't eastern media become popular precisely because they weren't western media though? Catering to the west seems like shooting yourself in the foot. The more you cater to them, the less you discern yourself from the western media.

This goes back to the 1980's of catering to western tastes, it's nothing new.

Transformers was called Diaclone originally and the mythos was written by Marvel Comics writers. Other toys from the series came from Microman and other unrelated toy lines.

However the one thing I have seen is a few character designs pop up in manga that look like Japanese versions of western cal arts characters. Like the heavy set black woman in a plaid shirt with her jeans hiked up too high and wearing heavy frame glasses.

I don't mind if they figure out Street Fighter first before they take a run at their other fighting game franchises. They are (allegedly) going back to the drawing board for SF6, meaning they're likely strapped for innovation/resources.

I'd rather have no Rival Schools than a Street Fighter x Tekken garbage-tier Rival Schools.

Sometimes "more of the same" leads to some great shit. I'm looking at RE3, Majoras Mask, Vice City, etc.

Hell, IIRC Nintendo claimed BOTW2 started out as a shit ton of crazy DLC ideas they had and they realized "wait this is enough for another game." which leaves me kind of excited.

Wasn't there a rumor that we might get a sh1 remake along with the remake of metal gear solid

If you're worried about THAT, then all they need to do is NOT add On-Disc DLC and Microtransactions. Rival Schools was never a "tag" system to begin with, only allowing to switch teammates after a round, which was something Capcom Fighting Jam (A.K.A. Worst Mugen, if you can believe that) borrowed, so constant time-outs won't be a thing like it is in SFxTekken

If Capcom can't manage that, then there is no hope for them.

Oh, that's sad. It's honestly amazing how something that was essentially a patchwork of abandoned concepts ended up turning into something absolutely beautiful in it's own twisted way. Kinda fitting considering the subject matter.
Wasn't that similar to how the original Silent Hill came to be? Group of devs kicked off from their respective projects working together iirc

If so then it's shaping up to be a winning formula for creating horror games

From what I understand Capcom had all intentions to make a new Darkstalkers but canceled it when the re-release Darkstalkers Resurrection didn't sell well enough because people expecting a new game and getting a re-release instead and choosing to just wait for a new release actually means they don't want a new release at all, right?

While I think that was stupid of Capcom and still want a new Darkstalkers to some degree I can take it or leave it at the same time because it'd be 3D, I've always been kinda meh on the 3D Street Fighters, I wish Capcom still did pixel art.
Darkstalkers is just a free-floating set of IP and character designs at this point. Its design innovations have been absorbed by other fighting games, so a revival is not going to be for some unique gameplay quirk. (It's not like Killer Instinct's revival which brought back its combo system etc.) You would effectively have to design a new game with new mechanics.

If I recall, no other Capcom fighter (aside from the MvsC line of games) does normal chains like Darkstalkers. Not only was it made into a special "ism" for the unlockable Hyper Street Fighter Alpha mode in "Street Fighter Alpha Anthology", but Morrigan kept all her chains and is literally the ONLY character to do them in Capcom vs SNK 2. The only thing that comes close to this are old-skool CPS1 chains from SF2 WW/CE/HF, which aren't a thing in newer street fighter games.

Oh and the fact that you can stop/jump-on a fallen opponent was pretty neat. Only other fighter I can think of that does this is Virtua Fighter/Fighting Vipers.

I was including the "Vs Capcom" series in games that have absorbed Darkstalkers mechanics.

The only way to really bring back Darkstalkers and have it be viable is to do a faithful remake on par with the RE2 remake from 2019. Same goes for Dino Crisis.

Capcom would have to grow a pair of balls and avoid Anita-proofing it or trying to IdPol pander like MK11 did, especially now that EVO lies in ashes and Anita herself is too busy trying to start a new grift by hassling Disney over The Mandalorian.

The Last of Us Part II is also the kind of game that should not be seen as a positive thing for character designs.

Cringe all you want, but @Dom Cruise is dead on the money with having sexy-looking characters in these old-school fighting games, especially the more gonzo and over-the-top ones like Darkstalkers which was supposed to be the spookier and slightly edgier cousin to Street Fighter.

Sexy women, buff men, macho fighting, and "toxic masculinity" are the things that are built into the genre and has been to some extent since Street Fighter II.

Bucking the trend and not going woke would get Capcom a lot of money, especially if they break character and actually make a good game like they did with the RE2 remake. Hell, if they wanted, a Darkstalkers reboot could amp up the violence and the blood as part of an increased focus on horror.

Hell, take a page from Bloodstained and go for the 2D look instead of full 3D.

I'd love to have a remade Darkstalkers, but there's things in the IP that are a level beyond normal risk tolerances can take. The catgirl's explicit human rights struggle and the change-at-puberty-or-a-bit-before thing is going to set someone off, not to mention Demetri's feminization move. I'm not sure you could get away with Lilith's battle dialog talking about her orgasm either...
EDIT: and I totally forgot about Lilith's Splendour Love special! How you get a very young looking woman going completely nude with bats barely covering anything in a mainstream game is a mystery. You can't even claim "oh she's X-hundred year's old". She's 3!

Felicia can probably work if you downplay the more risque stuff or play up the horror angle of her being a captive monster and then just go "Screw your optics, I'm going in!" on the edgy elements in general.

Lilith talking about her orgasms might have to be dropped, but that's probably one of those elements that can be easily overlooked if you don't woke out as a whole and just do a small dialogue rewrite.

On the one hand, there is the fact Lilith's only three but is also a supernatural creature so you could make the argument that she's three the same way Bender from Futurama is five years old but I agree that's a little too much and is kinda weird and not in a good way. Give Lilith a different move for the remake.

Plus, the legit creep factor aside, this would incite a lot of unneeded headache especially since it's from Japan and is one of those things that can't be easily brushed off with a "Fuck you, SJW's!" approach.

Yeah, you could have a 50-year old fully clothed married woman in a non-sexual situation drawn in an anime style and the Woke Left will still claim its pedophilic anyway for some reason, but I agree that the Lilith naked with bats is way too iffy.

I'd give her a different move instead and age up Lilith since it's a reboot anyway.

The gender bender move that Demetri does? Go for it.

At that point, it'd just be troons whining as usual and if the people at Capcom were smart about it, they'd pull a Dave Chappelle and just blow them off or maybe even have Poison as a secret guest character just for that extra backhanded "Fuck you, troons!" move. If they shout "muh transphobia", just say Demetri is a bad guy and be done with it.

If your game is actually good on its own, the edge will help it out in this climate. Matter of fact, a game that is a genuinely good game to play but also happens to be edgy and non-woke is pretty much a license to print money in today's climate, even in spite of cancel culture. Joker provided a good equivalent example for movies.

Hatred was edge with no substance and that's why it failed as badly as it did. They were trying to go after the long dead threat of the church ladies and redneck fundies, only to instead get the Woke Left on their asses instead.

A new Darkstalkers game that's also well-made, explicitly non-woke (note that I said non-woke, NOT anti-woke), and is both fun to play and dark and edgy would be a goldmine for Capcom. You'd get the same "Hell freezes over!" boost that the RE2 remake got and it would go over well.
