War Hundreds of protesters, some carrying guns in the state Capitol, demonstrate against Michigan's emergency measures

Hundreds of Michigan residents protested outside the state Capitol building in Lansing on Thursday, with some pushing inside while the Legislature was debating an extension of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s state of emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Protesters held signs, waved American flags and even carried firearms while some chanted, “Let us in!” and “This is the people’s house, you cannot lock us out,” and others tried to get onto the House floor but were blocked by state police and sergeants-at-arms, according to WDIV-TV, an NBC affiliate in Detroit.

A state police spokesman told NBC News that it is legal in Michigan to carry firearms as long as it is done with lawful intent and the weapon is visible.

The protest, dubbed the "American Patriot Rally," was organized by Michigan United for Liberty to call for the reopening of businesses.

State lawmakers are expected to vote on the 28-day extension of the state of emergency before it expires at midnight.

Whitmer, a Democrat who has faced fierce backlash for her strict stay-at-home mandate, extended that order earlier this month until May 15, but eased some restrictions on public activities as the state's coronavirus cases stabilize. The state, however, still has more than 40,000 cases and is one of the hardest-hit states.

The emergency declaration allows Whitmer to use her emergency powers to use executive orders during a crisis; its extension is separate from the extension of the stay-at-home order.

As the protests moved indoors from the rainy steps of the Capitol, police took the temperatures of those entering the building using a forehead thermometer, according to WOOD-TV, an NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Like the “Operation Gridlock” demonstration on April 15 over Whitmer’s stay-at-home order, many demonstrators appeared to be supporters of President Donald Trump, donning "Make American Great Again" campaign hats, and in one instance, putting on a dance routine by two girls wearing masks that appeared to be Trump and former President Barack Obama.

Republican lawmakers in Michigan, who control both chambers, have signaled that they would like to see the state safely reopen soon and have pushed back against Whitmer’s request for an extension of her emergency declaration.

Well, I'm sorry but it's just not sexy enough without Confederate flags. Fake Vikings with plaited beards and weird incels in face masks don't do it for me. Completely lame.

I want angry southern men in white sheets shouting about Dixie.

If you want that, you might have to hop over this line

True, they do have a much better goal than the Occupy Wall Street fuckheads had, and they do have the right to wear what they want, but that doesn't absolve them of criticism, nor mean that they're not acting stupid just like them.

I do agree with what these guys are protesting, but they're just ruining their own cause by acting like such speds. They're just giving more ammo to the people who want this lockdown to continue.

That's a fair point, it's being used as propaganda by the Left, but that would probably be an inevitability even if they decided to wear Pikachu costumes or something equally ridiculous instead.

I'm of the opinion that protests don't work as well as some people might think. Especially when people are trying to get to work and you have idiots blocking the streets and shit. "But dey wypipo who have gunz REEEE" is the going narrative and it detracts from the original point of the protests in the first place.
Protests are good for a few things: amp up energy and turnout for your side, victory parties, and social pressure on the other side to conform. To my untrained eye, they rarely achieve any of these goals aside from the victory party one.

I don't really see how this gives ammo to anyone, and I'm of the opinion that leftist anti-white race hate is there anyway so it's better to have them state it for every Tom, Lance and Zeek to hear over and over and over until they finally snap. I do agree that the one in Denver was probably better organized and more normie friendly.

Dude, all I'm saying is that wearing an Alex Jones Obama Joker shirt, and carrying a big "scary" gun only makes people on the Right look just like the crazed, racist, violent caricatures the media portrays them as. They're giving them ammo by acting just like the stereotype the media says they are.

It does get the overall message out there but considering how unfairly biased the media is I can't see it being particularly effective. The cameras will just ignore the normie one and go for the weirdo looking ones to push their narrative and get clickbait views.

This reminds me of the time that they screamed about the Joker movie and begged for a shootout at one to happen.

Plot twist, he's a lefty plant with an airsoft gun and a custom shirt he bought from a third party site.

At any given protest the media will pick the worst 1% of people to represent the whole and it is literally impossible to prevent all crazy people from showing up.

No doubt, you are giving generally good advice. Just that it will not make any impact on how any group is portrayed.

Cause it's Michigan, genius. Even ngry gun toting Yankees know better.

This kind of thing is going to become more common the more Democrats continue to shit the bed and demand that we keep up le quarantine. I've seen plenty of fags on reddit squealing for UBI and whining about how the government hasn't done enough to wipe their asses. But I know they're not in a majority, meanwhile these people are, they're just the ones who decided to actually exercise a bit. More and more of these will appear and it doesn't matter how many morons think that gorillions and gorillions are going to die from Wutang Flu.

Open up the country. Stop having it be closed. Or else these protests are going to get ugly real fast.

That, and you can still buy gardening seeds and go boating in the South. Michigan is a special case that went too far.

The She-Fuhrer needs to have her "emergency powers" ripped away from her yesterday.

Governor Kemp opened up Georgia.
Cause, I know Georgians. They'd have voted him out in a special election for violating constitutional rights. We don't take bullshit for too long.
Where I live, if you can't buy fresh produce and seeds for your own garden, all hell will break loose.

That makes sense, probably not a lot of warmth and sunlight in Michigan this time of year anyway, so good luck if you even have seeds in the first place. Also everyone knows that blue states don't grow their own food or hunt, so they probably believe in the magic store shelf theory. Wouldn't surprise me at this rate.

It's not like opening things is automatically going to turn the entirety of the state into another NYC, besides just because legal restrictions are being lifted doesn't mean people are going to open things up anyway.

I just hope this doesn't set a precedent for governors to close things down just because they feel like it. Probably will but here's to optimism, I guess.

Well. It could have been confined to Detroit if one governing would have been so smart, but no. NYC had people during the 1st 2 weeks out and about just to spite the lockdown and they wonder how it spread faster?

And 1000 people out of 10.4 million? Really? That's pathetic. We have several high grade hospitals in Atlanta Grady and Emory, among other satellite hospitals. We took outside patients too.
Dougherty county may be backlogged but again, normal procedure is to ship severe patients to Valdosta, Thomasville, Bainbridge, and Columbus and even Macon or Atlanta already.
All this hype was really over blown and should have been regionally decided.

I blame Fauci personally. He overblew the symptoms and spread of this disease. My mama is a cancer survivor and she got it and got over it. But again, she's got a constitution of a dang lioness.

Isn't this the governor who said that abortion clinics can stay open because they're life saving over actual surgeries needed? Makes zero sense because abortions use medical items that could be used for COVID instead. And I can safely assume they played the race card over Detroit by claiming COVID is somehow racist when it's black people not listening about distancing.

Yeah it's life saving in the sense that your wife can cheat on you with Chad and Tyrone, forget the condom, and have an abortion before you find out.

I'm pretty much all but convinced at this point that the DNC is a CCP asset.

Fauci is in part responsible for this mess, but keep in mind this was a series of fuck-ups by multiple people, not one or two on a certain level. Personally I think they allowed it to spread because of an opportunity to obtain "temporary" emergency powers.

I call bullshit on that. Nothing scares the white person more than an armed black man as the Black Regiments during the civil war, the Harlem Hell fighters during World War 1 and the Black Panthers in California during the 1960s when they open carried guns into California State buildings.

Majority of gun control laws were passed to disarm them but then politicans realized, since how easy it is to fuck with an unarmed population and control, lets disarm everyone.

So you're saying they should of just locked down detroit and left the rest of the state alone?
I don't think anyone would object to walling-off large metropolitan areas of the US and starving them out.
But how would that help cure the wuhan flu?
The what-han who?

Please do try to keep in character, cringey siegelarper. I do admire your tenacious dumbing of every reasonable post though. The redness of your posterior is remarkable.

confederate mask.jpg
Friday afternoon during a senate vote at the capitol it was brought to our attention that one State Senator was wearing a mask that appeared to have the confederate flag on it.

Thankfully this mad man was stopped before it got out of hand!

Plot twist: it's a portion of the Mississippi state flag that just happens to look like that.

Also, it's not like the Fuhress cares what the legislature thinks:
