War Hundreds of protesters, some carrying guns in the state Capitol, demonstrate against Michigan's emergency measures

Hundreds of Michigan residents protested outside the state Capitol building in Lansing on Thursday, with some pushing inside while the Legislature was debating an extension of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s state of emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Protesters held signs, waved American flags and even carried firearms while some chanted, “Let us in!” and “This is the people’s house, you cannot lock us out,” and others tried to get onto the House floor but were blocked by state police and sergeants-at-arms, according to WDIV-TV, an NBC affiliate in Detroit.

A state police spokesman told NBC News that it is legal in Michigan to carry firearms as long as it is done with lawful intent and the weapon is visible.

The protest, dubbed the "American Patriot Rally," was organized by Michigan United for Liberty to call for the reopening of businesses.

State lawmakers are expected to vote on the 28-day extension of the state of emergency before it expires at midnight.

Whitmer, a Democrat who has faced fierce backlash for her strict stay-at-home mandate, extended that order earlier this month until May 15, but eased some restrictions on public activities as the state's coronavirus cases stabilize. The state, however, still has more than 40,000 cases and is one of the hardest-hit states.

The emergency declaration allows Whitmer to use her emergency powers to use executive orders during a crisis; its extension is separate from the extension of the stay-at-home order.

As the protests moved indoors from the rainy steps of the Capitol, police took the temperatures of those entering the building using a forehead thermometer, according to WOOD-TV, an NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Like the “Operation Gridlock” demonstration on April 15 over Whitmer’s stay-at-home order, many demonstrators appeared to be supporters of President Donald Trump, donning "Make American Great Again" campaign hats, and in one instance, putting on a dance routine by two girls wearing masks that appeared to be Trump and former President Barack Obama.

Republican lawmakers in Michigan, who control both chambers, have signaled that they would like to see the state safely reopen soon and have pushed back against Whitmer’s request for an extension of her emergency declaration.

Detroit IS a gulag.....

Only winning to those who don't own guns and have swallowed the conditioning pushed hard by the left over the last 4 years that gun ownership is, by itself, with no other qualifiers, inherently racist and sexist.

It's why the lefties celebrated Trudeau's gun ban as a triumph of "feminist law" - Guns aren't just bad in and of themselves due to causing shooting sprees, but, they also cause EVERY OTHER bad thing too! From homophobia to hypertension!

They literally think banning guns solves ALL of society's ills because owning one is letting an evil totem have control over you and it will slowly but surely make you into a mean person! By it's inherent black magics!

Damn, that's a lot of words to say that lefties are drooling morons.

I noticed #BlueLivesMatter was trending on twitter. Hashtags are such a joke. Like saying BlackLivesMatter lel

  • Horrifying
Reactions: Arm Pit Cream
Wouldn't the best compromise for this would be:

  • Limit immigration without screening.
  • Reopen businesses but wear a mask/gloves during operation.
  • Elderly or those with weak systems are encouraged to stay home or have a curfew.
  • Temporary UBI for some that qualify.
  • Nationalized healthcare. Stick it to Big Pharma that lobbies in Congress.

We can't stay like this forever, but just opening stuff up without precaution isn't going to help anybody. I assume with modern medicine and technology compared to the Spanish Flu, we'd be okay long term.
What precautions are necessary? Why do they require us sitting on our hands waiting for government say so? Aren't most of these going to be personal choices?
Herd immunity is the goal. If they wanna go out there and get it, let them. If the numbers go crazy order another 2 week break. What more is there to take caution against?

Also, several of those proposals start off sounding good, but have duplicitous poison-barbs in their tails that will come back to haunt.

"Elderly or weak stay home or have a curfew" - Sure, why not start a police state where you can be arrested outside your home if we're only gonna cuff geezers? Not like it'd affect me or my millennial buddies!

"Temporary UBI" - You and I both know that once any gibs are initiated, you can never ever EVER turn them off... the "temporary" status of UBI will be extended again and again, as assuredly as the amount to give will be bloated and the list of qualified recipients expanded to buy votes, so sure, let's pump another 20 trillion in debt into the dollar, why not? They're already saying that illegals should get some of that pie too..... $18 for a can of Diet Coke is just the price we'll have to pay to make sure everyone gets the money they "Deserve".

"Nationalized Healthcare" - The government hasn't even managed to get unemployment checks to all in a time of crisis in a timely manner. But, somehow, if we let them own the whole healthcare system, they'll get us literal life-saving treatments in a timely fashion in a time of crisis? Somehow, just trust them? Uh, no.

This whole wall-to-wall mess should have you convinced that even when it means well, the Government's policies are so inefficient and hampered by bureaucracy and riddled with corruption that they might as well be malicious from the get-go for all the "good" they (don't ) do.

When you look at it in totality, NONE of those policies are reasonable as they are "cures" that are 10x worse for all than the disease.
