War Hundreds of protesters, some carrying guns in the state Capitol, demonstrate against Michigan's emergency measures

Hundreds of Michigan residents protested outside the state Capitol building in Lansing on Thursday, with some pushing inside while the Legislature was debating an extension of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s state of emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Protesters held signs, waved American flags and even carried firearms while some chanted, “Let us in!” and “This is the people’s house, you cannot lock us out,” and others tried to get onto the House floor but were blocked by state police and sergeants-at-arms, according to WDIV-TV, an NBC affiliate in Detroit.

A state police spokesman told NBC News that it is legal in Michigan to carry firearms as long as it is done with lawful intent and the weapon is visible.

The protest, dubbed the "American Patriot Rally," was organized by Michigan United for Liberty to call for the reopening of businesses.

State lawmakers are expected to vote on the 28-day extension of the state of emergency before it expires at midnight.

Whitmer, a Democrat who has faced fierce backlash for her strict stay-at-home mandate, extended that order earlier this month until May 15, but eased some restrictions on public activities as the state's coronavirus cases stabilize. The state, however, still has more than 40,000 cases and is one of the hardest-hit states.

The emergency declaration allows Whitmer to use her emergency powers to use executive orders during a crisis; its extension is separate from the extension of the stay-at-home order.

As the protests moved indoors from the rainy steps of the Capitol, police took the temperatures of those entering the building using a forehead thermometer, according to WOOD-TV, an NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Like the “Operation Gridlock” demonstration on April 15 over Whitmer’s stay-at-home order, many demonstrators appeared to be supporters of President Donald Trump, donning "Make American Great Again" campaign hats, and in one instance, putting on a dance routine by two girls wearing masks that appeared to be Trump and former President Barack Obama.

Republican lawmakers in Michigan, who control both chambers, have signaled that they would like to see the state safely reopen soon and have pushed back against Whitmer’s request for an extension of her emergency declaration.

I originally was "Hulk Hogan" and I would insult members here and call them autistic while talking about Hulkamania (this was back in 2013 or so). Then, I became a face and lifted kiwis up while talking about Hulkamania. Then, I turned heel and joined the nWo. Then I stopped giving a shit.

"It's scary that people might revolt against us for trying to destory their livelihood." -Democrats

God, hearing those drones telling you to go home is comical to me because we really do live in a fucking clown world. Democrats know they can abuse their powers so they're LARPing as if Trump never won the 2016 election

I'm of the opinion that protests don't work as well as some people might think.

Protests are utterly worthless without an insanely large number of people or significant property damage. One combats the media narrative by sheer virtue of a ton of witnesses to the contrary, and another hopefully inconveniences the thing being protested. Like Starbucks, or the poor fuckers that run limo companies that provide services to the rich, pussy hounds, and middle class kids going to prom. Or maybe even hitting someone with a bike lock. That worked.

Instead of doing anything remotely as respectable, effective, or intimidating as the Civil Rights movement.

It doesn't really matter that a bunch a boogaloo faggot LARPers did a thing, it has no impact on how much gun control is loved by the media and pushed through by the state. Look at what the protest in Virginia accomplished. Jack shit. Even now that Trump seems to be egging Virginians on, no armed protest is gonna get a liberal to stop the plan to disarm Americans.

Leftists don't understand the concept of humor, because jokes under communism aren't funny unless everybody gets them.

This comment is accurate. I will be appropriating it for redistribution.

Well, two of the most draconian proposals, including the absurd "Anything with more than one in the mag is an assault gun" one didn't pass.... did the protests do that? I dunno, nobody's polled the congress so I can't say it did any more than one can say it didn't.....

But I won't get worked up because I have a feeling those measures that did pass are going to be dismantled in the courts anyway.

If anything, the protest gave everyone warm fuzzies but let them burn up their energy that perhaps should have been directed at voting OUT those who said "YEA" to the measures, which is the only thing that really matters when it comes to passing.

I'm just tired of the goalpost moving/mild hypocrisy every time this happens: Why don't people rise up and do something when the government overreaches? What? They showed up and did a mass protest? Don't they know those DON'T WORK and just make them look stupid?

Well, what's one TO do?

I largely agree with this, but I'd also like to point out that in many cases, public protests energize supporters of a cause and make them more likely to turn out to vote at the ballot, at least when the protest doesn't turn into a complete clusterfuck disaster like Charlottesville. Look at how anti-Vietnam War sentiment built up over a long period of time with repeated protests. Political activism isn't like a video game where you have an energy meter you drain every time you do something. Inaction is far more likely to lead to apathy and more inaction down the line. How many of us would be talking about, or even aware of the situation in Michigan if not for these protests?

People expect protests to flip some kind of switch that instantly undoes whatever people are protesting or it's written off as a complete failure, but even successful protests almost never work like that. They take time and trigger complicated reactions. And yes, optics are very important to the success of a protest. Sure your opponents will find things to bash regardless, but it's the undecideds in the middle and the people who largely agree with you but don't feel like they can do anything who you want to appeal to.

Do you think the protests didn't energize the people who attended them to vote next in the next election? I also forgot to add in my list of the rather few things protests are useful for is that they're also useful for networking. A pro-gun group could certainly drive up their email list or membership at such an event.

Honestly, I don't know..... It's just my HOPE that anyone angry enough to show up in Lansing remembers to back it up this November, otherwise what was the point? I'm just mentally reeling a bit from the 180 a lot of folks are pulling.

I've seen people that have prayed for grassroots action from conservatives, calling for them to "put their money where thier mouth is" when it comes to holding overreaching government accountable only to shriek "No! You only make us look bad!" or laugh "Ha, like that did anything!" when it happens just like they said, with guns and all.....

.... I'm momentarily not sure which end is even "up" right now.

The protesters are not larpers. They mean buisness and this is a warning to the cunt in charge. Guns are good and no faggotry can get them banned at this point from some journos, like y'all are afraid of.
Don't make me laugh. If they actually meant business, they would've broken into her home and slit her throat as she slept. This shit is glorified virtue signalling. "If you keep doing what you're doing, I'm totally going to talk loudly near you! GRR! ARGH!"

Wouldn't the best compromise for this would be:

  • Limit immigration without screening.
  • Reopen businesses but wear a mask/gloves during operation.
  • Elderly or those with weak systems are encouraged to stay home or have a curfew.
  • Temporary UBI for some that qualify.
  • Nationalized healthcare. Stick it to Big Pharma that lobbies in Congress.

We can't stay like this forever, but just opening stuff up without precaution isn't going to help anybody. I assume with modern medicine and technology compared to the Spanish Flu, we'd be okay long term.

"The greatest victory is that which requires no battle."

If the state is too scared to enforce policy because the underclass are going to show up on their doorstep en-mass with rifles, then that's a win.

The old muh racism card is getting old at this point. Plus she kinda looks like a step ford wife, this governor.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer slammed the protesters who gathered inside the state's Capitol building on Thursday to demand she rescind her stay-at-home orders, saying they represented the “worst racism and awful parts” of U.S. history.

“Some of the outrageousness of what happened at our capitol depicted some of the worst racism and awful parts of our history in this country,” Whitmer said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“The behavior you've seen in all of the clips is not representative of who we are in Michigan,” she added.

Holding American flags and handmade signs – and with some carrying firearms -- the demonstrators in Lansing first congregated shoulder-to-shoulder outside before demanding to be let inside the building as lawmakers were poised to debate an extension of an emergency and disaster declaration. Some chanted "Let us in," The Detroit News reported.

State Sen. Dayna Polehanki, a Democrat, tweeted a photo of what she described as armed demonstrators yelling above her. She said some of her colleagues were wearing "bullet proof vests" inside the House chamber.

"Directly above me, men with rifles yelling at us. Some of my colleagues who own bullet proof vests are wearing them. I have never appreciated our Sergeants-at-Arms more than today. #mileg," she posted.

Thursday's rally came as some people living in Michigan have continued to demand Whitmer roll back her stay-at-home order in an effort to reopen the state's economy and allow residents to resume daily activities.

Last week, she extended the mandate through May 15, but loosened some restrictions beginning Friday. Residents will be allowed to travel between residences, but it will be "strongly discouraged."

Whitmer said she would not be intimidated by political pressure to ease up her state’s stay-at-home orders amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“The fact of the matter is we are in the global pandemic. This is not something we negotiate ourselves out of and is a political matter; this is a public health crisis that has taken the lives of almost 70,000 Americans,” she said.

“Whether you agree with me or not, I'm working to protect your life if you live in the state of Michigan,” Whitmer added.

President Trump has come out in support of the protesters, calling them “very good people” in a tweet on Friday.

“The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire. These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal,” Trump added.

Ah so a foot in the door everything the left wants and the right gets limited business operation. No thanks.

Throw in free trips to the Detriot Gulags for all protesters and you've got yourself a deal!

Detroit IS a gulag.....

If all else fails, she has the winning ticket right here.

Only winning to those who don't own guns and have swallowed the conditioning pushed hard by the left over the last 4 years that gun ownership is, by itself, with no other qualifiers, inherently racist and sexist.

It's why the lefties celebrated Trudeau's gun ban as a triumph of "feminist law" - Guns aren't just bad in and of themselves due to causing shooting sprees, but, they also cause EVERY OTHER bad thing too! From homophobia to hypertension!

They literally think banning guns solves ALL of society's ills because owning one is letting an evil totem have control over you and it will slowly but surely make you into a mean person! By it's inherent black magics!
