War Hundreds of protesters, some carrying guns in the state Capitol, demonstrate against Michigan's emergency measures

Hundreds of Michigan residents protested outside the state Capitol building in Lansing on Thursday, with some pushing inside while the Legislature was debating an extension of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s state of emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Protesters held signs, waved American flags and even carried firearms while some chanted, “Let us in!” and “This is the people’s house, you cannot lock us out,” and others tried to get onto the House floor but were blocked by state police and sergeants-at-arms, according to WDIV-TV, an NBC affiliate in Detroit.

A state police spokesman told NBC News that it is legal in Michigan to carry firearms as long as it is done with lawful intent and the weapon is visible.

The protest, dubbed the "American Patriot Rally," was organized by Michigan United for Liberty to call for the reopening of businesses.

State lawmakers are expected to vote on the 28-day extension of the state of emergency before it expires at midnight.

Whitmer, a Democrat who has faced fierce backlash for her strict stay-at-home mandate, extended that order earlier this month until May 15, but eased some restrictions on public activities as the state's coronavirus cases stabilize. The state, however, still has more than 40,000 cases and is one of the hardest-hit states.

The emergency declaration allows Whitmer to use her emergency powers to use executive orders during a crisis; its extension is separate from the extension of the stay-at-home order.

As the protests moved indoors from the rainy steps of the Capitol, police took the temperatures of those entering the building using a forehead thermometer, according to WOOD-TV, an NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Like the “Operation Gridlock” demonstration on April 15 over Whitmer’s stay-at-home order, many demonstrators appeared to be supporters of President Donald Trump, donning "Make American Great Again" campaign hats, and in one instance, putting on a dance routine by two girls wearing masks that appeared to be Trump and former President Barack Obama.

Republican lawmakers in Michigan, who control both chambers, have signaled that they would like to see the state safely reopen soon and have pushed back against Whitmer’s request for an extension of her emergency declaration.

Which led to Ronald Reagan banning the carrying of firearms in public. It's almost as if people are willing to accept gun control as long as it's applied to "the right people." Nothing new.
And this protest led to the governor extending the stay-at-home order to May 28th. And much like the extension, the Mulford Act was already being considered before the Black Panthers protest. I'd say they're both batting roughly the same average.

OK dictator, enjoy being cooped up in your fart box for the rest of your life. You sound like the kind of person who would advocate for preventing rape by castrating every adult male in America. Sure it would work, but at what cost?

I don't want to lose my parents, uncles, aunts, etc... to this shit just because some rednecks like you want to get a haircut. I value the life of my parents over being able to gather in crowds until a vaccine is figured out, but apparently you don't. I bet they're proud.

Once someone you know and care about catches covid, your tune will change. It's a nasty virus and the effects last for months.

Just did some more reading about this governer. This protest situation is definitely a far cry from the anti-social distancing protests in my state, and I should have kept my mouth shut since I did not know all the facts in this particular case.

Usually, I vote blue, but in this case, fuck Whitmer. The more I know, or something like that.

I'm so amazed by how ignorant the average blue voter is on certain things, especially their own party. They're no better than my parents were Republicans therefore I'm a Republican types.

We have a reality TV star for president, and he's not even close to being the worst politician in America. That speaks volumes.

Yeah, it's because "rednecks" want a haircut and not because people have rent and food to pay for, and no job to do that with, and the fact that politicians are taking advantage of the situation by granting themselves emergency powers that will never go away.

I know a guy who said that and a vaccine could take years, if it's even possible. I say open things up again gradually but let the boomers stay home. We have to make a decision between economic disaster and keeping everyone under house arrest, and either way, the virus will exist.

97% of the people who've died already had underlying conditions. Unless they're already ill it's irrational for you to fear this disease enough for you to want to crash the economy.

Anything to own the Bad Orange Man. He'd probably open up everything tomorrow if it meant all the red states automatically died of the virus afterward. Crashing the economy to own the Bad Orange Man at this rate just seems the more practical route.

:optimistic:

Too late for that, the dumb bitch doubled down and will reap what she's sown in time.

In a fit of pure, unadulterated spite, Governor Whitmer extended the draconian lockdown for another month after the protests.
And this protest led to the governor extending the stay-at-home order to May 28th.
Just for accuracy's sake, as of now, according to Governor Whitmer, the state of emergency is in effect until May 28th, but the stay-at-home order (currently) is only in effect until May 15th, an extension that she made a while back.
Also, the bans on selling gardening supplies and going motorboating were lifted last Friday, April 24th.

Why do you care about local state American politics again given your country just banned a lot of guns. But then again you are probably all for that and should be happy with how Trudeau is running the show. You posted this tweet not for informational purposes but as bait. Not that I have any problems with the message of the tweet itself.

You underestimate the number of people with underlying conditions (estimates are over 1/3 of Americans, and that doesn't even count obesity, which is a higher risk and half of Americans are obese). The economy will be just fine if the government passes the bill that will start a UBI until this settles. Do you know what else hurts the economy? Losing a ton of people to a virus. In fact, studies have shown that reopening the economy too soon will do more harm long-term than being more conservative. Look what happened when they reopened too early during the Spanish Flu

It's all my fault.

Blame me. I haint had no heeire cut in nigh to a possums age...

This is going to sound callous but the old people in NYC are the ones dying and that city gave up on their elderly and ghettos years ago. They are not getting prime care and being let to die.

Georgians are fine. We're good. Fuck you.

I am amazed a leftist like you choose Hulk Hogan to be your profile picture and you also insult rednecks while having the profile pic of a redneck wrestling hero like Trump is.

Those people are at risk daily even without Corona chan to pay them a visit. If you and all your relatives are obese you're already in greater danger of dying every day. 3 million americans die each year, most of them from conditions such as obesity and diabetes.
Do you know what else hurts the economy? Losing a ton of people to a virus.
Explain to me how it will hurt the economy when 90 out of 100 who die are pensioners? 3 million americans die each year, and you think we're going to sink the economy because we add another 100k on on top of that? Also there is no reason anymore to fearmonger by comparing the Chink flu to the Spanish flu, there's been no statistics that makes them comparable

90% of people who died from it had an underlying condition (https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/n...atients-had-underlying-conditions/2962721001/). This includes obesity. When over half of Americans are obese, this is definitely not good.

I originally was "Hulk Hogan" and I would insult members here and call them autistic while talking about Hulkamania (this was back in 2013 or so). Then, I became a face and lifted kiwis up while talking about Hulkamania. Then, I turned heel and joined the nWo. Then I stopped giving a shit.

Your moralizing would have been boring without your severe myopia. You're so out of touch, you think that a months long lockdown (a vaccine, they say, will be available in a year at bare minimum without rushing the process) is sustainable for anyone and that the only reason people are protesting has to do with relative frivolities as opposed to inconsistent orders or the lack of job/loss of business driving them to the brink of homelessness and starvation as the bills roll in and their savings run dry. What happens when people lose their homes because their landlords or banks are less forgiving than others? They roam the streets or go to a shelter.

Likely, crowded shelters.

You do the math.

You can talk about staying put at home because you wouldn't have had to worry about staying put at home, that much is clear.

Like I said up thread, if the house passes the UBI bill that will give $2k/month to people until this settles down, your economy fears will not happen. You are really underestimating this virus. Your tune will change when you know someone who has complications that last for months.

Why $2k? Why not $200k? Then everybody can be in the top 1%. Fucking stupid communist socialist faggot.

I had it and my mother who survived stage 4 cancer had it.

We're good. Thanks for the concern. I appreciate any monetary help but I think this is an over blown response and I would love to go back to work.
