It's kind of a cliché to harp on at this point, but it's a real headscratcher to me why people get invested in and donate to Twitch thots. I get camwhores or phonesex or things like that, but what's the point of spending what seems like MORE money on the softcore version? It's bizarre. I've heard people say that it's mostly underages who can't use mom's credit card on the pornsites who donate to the Twitch types, but there are definitely adult dudes who do it too, and are surely the biggest whales. I mean all of this stuff is cringe, but the hottub streams and stuff just don't make sense even if one were to put themselves in the shoes of a megacoomer.

the cope I've heard for this one is that handling gasoline is dangerous and pump attendants are trained professionals. in reality, gas pump attendant is a job held almost exclusively by the dirtiest foreigners who fell off the boat a hot five minutes ago and speak maybe two words of english. in the only state where it's actually illegal to pump your own gas - fucking New Jersey - the politicians like to say that it creates jobs. however, while visiting New Jersey and experiencing the phenomenon myself, I was dearly wishing the whole time that the fucking brown guy would piss off back into the building and let me do it myself. they clearly do not give a fuck and I really don't trust them to not scratch my car or start a fire or something. also, when my friend who grew up in NJ came here, the first time I stopped for gas they were absolutely floored that "they just let you pump your own gas???" the east coast is so fucking cursed, lmao.

it's a parasocial thing. celebrities are marketed to be people you admire, most normies are susceptible to this. that's why the talk show circuit exists, and it's also why celebrities basically get disqualified from public life if they do something unsavory enough. a celebrity has to have the appeal of somebody you want to be friends with, which hooks normies into the same kind of social impulses you have with a friend, i.e., keeping up with what's going on in their life, hearing their thoughts on things, etc.
