Apparently the domain name contains the public key, which the onion node has to verify upon connection. Since the site is hosted on an onion node, it never goes through an exit node.

If everyone in the world outside of users of the forum thinks it's an illegal hacker doxing site that tracks down innocent people and kills them the site won't be able to stay online.
