Because much like twatter, chans is quite watered down. It is true that the threads are archived, but there it is much more easier to push down unwanted discussion by the mods.
Something Awful is way worse as well but my theory is they have a lot of former members on twitter and a lot trooned out which allows people to gloss over them given they have the right politics™.
Reddit mods also do this in the politics subreddits. The remove reddit sites show a ton of on topic threads removed for being off topic. The merge reminds me of the day after the 2016 election where reddit wasn't full of political accounts screeching the same narrative at people and reddit was actually pleasant to use. Theory is there wasn't a contingency plan if Trump won so they spent the day after the election developing narratives for their bots/ShareBlue employees to push. It really should make one think but humans are quick to forgive and forget if they think they're on the same side.

You play the same game these people are playing. You form close knit groups that are highly discriminatory, hire people with your politics, and push your politics/policies onto the companies/governments you are associated with.
