Oh I’ve tried. One guy I know who adores this shit heap game told me how he was looking for something similar with a heavy story that would stick with him.

Me, rubbing my hands gleefully, was so excited to get him to play Planescape.

Dumb faggot didn’t even leave the mortuary before his eyes glazed over and you could hear the gears working overtime in his head. Played all of 20 minutes and dismissed it as “too boring!” “Bad graphics!” “When does it get good!”
 
Fortunately, the release og BG3 has not resulted in a bunch of normie fags flooding in to the classic BG community. The og games still filter these people, even on the easier difficulties. From the ones who do give bg1 and bg2 a try, I read complaints like "why isn't there more dialogue and why is most of it not voiced". The modern RPG audience just wants a conversation simulator where they can romance a waifu and make shitty little choices through dialogue.

BG3 had its moments but they were few and far between. For the most part getting through the game was a slog and I'll be happy to never touch it again.

Some friends and I started a busted ass run using a Saiyan class mod. Absolutely hilariously broken, nothing is a challenge and you are insanely OP (especially when you dual class)

So if you just want to have fun and not give a single fuck I'd recommend trying that mod out.

This is always the justification for bumping up hardware demands, but AAA games continue to run like complete dogshit and pretty soon every Unity-made indie love letter to 16-bit JRPGs has a 25 gig installation and requires an RTX 4060.

It's like a thermodynamic law that developers will allow their software be precisely as poorly optimized as the hardware of the day can handle.
 
Every time I watch a video or a stream of this game it's always dialog. How much of this game is listening to characters talk vs actually playing it?
It's based on DnD 5E and it throws at least 10 enemies an encounter at you. The combat's a turn based slog unless you powergame it and you're taking multiple actions a turn. I'm guessing most people end up optimizing into DW handbow fighters or scorching ray metamagic sorcs, or spend something like 100 hours on a playthrough.

The amount of shilling done on behalf of this game is just wild to me. I won't touch a lot of this primarily because of the woke shit in it.

Software has been leaning on hardware for a long time now. When you play ps2 games you can tell they got way more out of the hardware than modern devs do with much more powerful consoles. Maybe multi-plats and the new standard of infinitely porting games up each generation has led to less care for this stuff but Its likely just that the devs are just incompetent these days. Obviously there's exceptions I think the team at Naughty Dog are masters of their craft regardless of what you think of their games. But overall it seems there's far less care to the logisitics of game making.

If anything, that ought to make it easier to create good games. Porting something like Splinter Cell from the Xbox to the Playstation 2 was a serious undertaking to move from the PC-like Xbox to hardware that was fundamentally different in every way.

Nowadays both consoles (and PC, largely) are using the same architecture, same ISA, even the same hardware manufacturer, and everybody uses one of a small handful of engines. It's hard for me to chalk it up to anything but incompetence when the "right" way to do things has never been more universal and standardized.
