If you were in Hell, would you know you were there?

Ages ago some Christian told me that hell is not fire & brimstone type of deal, but a place with the absence of God. That would kinda explain everything going on, if we are in there right now.
maybe i'd prefer the fire
That would be Sheol I believe. I think it's different from the lake of fire that Satan is going to be thrown into. Most of the confusion comes from Dante and Roman paganism. Popular culture tends to define these concepts for a lot of people.

You mean to tell me this isn't hell we're in right now? Shit, then I guess my bar is set too high.

I almost died a few years ago, right around the time everything started going absolutely insane. It certainly feels like I woke up in Hell, and maybe I did. Maybe the state of the world is just drawing out some latent mental health problems and I'm slowly going insane. Maybe that's what Hell is. Oh well.

Even in my darkest days I still had positive experiences with companionship, art, music, and food. I think if I was in a place that held no joy at all, that must be hell.

I believe hell is just a place of suffering

You would know because it is worse than anything else you have experienced.

I would think you would, because I believe Hell is at least in part a punishment, and a punishment is only effective if the recipient understands why they're being punished. But maybe not, who knows. Not a topic I would know much about.
