At some point some of the bigger lolcows like DWI and Ferd should get spun off into their own genuine lolcow threads. When I first joined Kiwifarms I tried looking a little to see if Ferd was ever mentioned in any of the German speaking threads, but couldn't ever find anything. Of course it didn't help that I don't speak or read German. Ferd is probably the most genuine lolcow material and is way way funnier than a lot of the lolcows that regularly get featured here on The Farms.
I mocked up a quick diagram in LibreOffice of how *I* understand the iFunny ecosystem to work after 3K+ days of experience. Please feel free to add to it or correct me. Some of it is repeated from other stuff I've already written, but it feels relevant to the context of the diagram. If it feels appropriate we could put it in the OP under a spoiler tag or something:
Explanation of the iFunny Ecosystem:
"Deep" iFunny (a retarded name but actually accurate) exists as an interconnected web of larger/famous accounts like Sectionalism or Mookie (usually a few thousand subscribers). These are the main and most consistent producers of quality posts and are often times responsible for the propagation of, if not the creators of, iFunny "high culture" aka memes/in-jokes. Being mutuals (being subscribed to each other) is a much bigger deal on iFunny than on other sites because of the aforementioned lack of an algorithm driven "for you" page like on Instagram or TikTok. The biggest way for most users to find quality content (in my experience) is to be exposed to it through republishing. Republishing is the main way to share posts on the platform and is a bit of a sacrifice on the republisher/sharer's part because there's no way to separate republished posts from original posts on a user's profile, so if you republish a lot of posts your profile can quickly get clogged up with other user's posts which can limit your profile's exposure to new subscribers, as if anyone cares.
Deep iFunny existing like this essentially forms an organic and self-supporting system where users naturally coalesce or crystallize around big accounts like Sectionalism or Absolutism into their own groups like iPolitics or iAnime (these are informal names generally applied sarcastically to types of posters on the platform). A tag system exists, but it's essentially useless and easily spammed (
why is this post in the Fallout tag?).
"Featured Posts" are posts that, in theory, are high quality and are selected by the iFunny staff to be shared across the whole platform. A whole history of how Featured has changed isn't necessary, but in the app's early days a new set of Featured posts was something to look forward to and getting Featured used to be a big deal. Featured posts now are selected automatically and the Featured section is now essentially filled with content farm garbage and reposted Instagram/TikTok garbage. Occasionally though the automated system messes up and features a post that it really shouldn't from Deep iFunny (aka a post that is actually funny or entertaining or otherwise interesting). This is oftentimes the only real exposure that the retarded creatures (hence the term "Feature Creature") that frequent Featured get to the actual core community of iFunny. Feature Creatures are typically Latinx or other Turd Worlders that gobble up bot spam and content farm content. I'm sure you known the type.
Getting Featured though is actually generally really annoying for Deep iFunny posters though as it typically means that for a while after any new posts you make will get spammed with retarded comments as your profile gets a big uplift in subscribers/people visiting your page. Getting lots of subscribers isn't really that important on iFunny as there isn't any system of monetization (
you literally ruined my iFunny career!).
This whole thing usually results in partial adoption of Deep iFunny culture as retarded Latinx and Normies parrot words like "Based" or "Part of the Ship, Part of the Crew" (
Part of the Shit, Part of the Poop).
The Normies and Feature Creatures actually do have a few benefits to the actual community. For one, they're oftentimes funny to make fun of because they have like 70IQ because they're from the Turd World or they're some uninitiated Boomer who thinks iFunny is like Facebook. Secondly, they help buoy the app's ad revenue. As bad as the iFunny famously are they do cost money to run. A lot of actual users (i.e., not Latinx/Normies) use old versions of the app or use programs like Blokada to get rid of ads. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, Featured and other bot/normie accounts act as a shield for Deep iFunny from the rest of the internet. Imagine this to be the Indian Navy protecting the Sentinelese Islanders (just in this case, doing so unknowingly), with the Sentinelese being the Deep iFunny community. Like a fragile island ecosystem, the Deep iFunny community is really tiny and if it were easy for redditors and twittertards to get in, the results would be disastrous. The iFunny community is fairly xenophobic to overt outside presences, as illustrated by the TikToker Farod getting doxed (the memes posting his house are some of the funniest I've ever seen on the platform like the one with Peter Griffin posted in this thread lmao).
For further reading from someone else with their own unique longtime experience on the app who agrees with me on some of my points like about the role of Normies:

Also,
@absieif are you Absolutist? If so, I've been a sub for years. I run a presidential "candidate" themed account, it's possible you might know the one. Remember that retard who went by like IWantToFuckAsuka? I think he was genuinely mentally ill. Maybe you could write something about iAnime and your general experience on the app or write more about TexasEmpire? I forgot about that guy. I used to be subscribed to him because he was funny to laugh at.
