So... I hadn't been on the site for a few months, usually I go there every now and again and look for some random pictures, but today when I went there... holy shit dude.

Apparently the site has been turned into like a silent movie version of Vine... and when you try and scroll/navigate through hundreds of thumbnail videos all playing at once...

CRASH

CRASH

CRASH

...like, what the fuck are they thinking? Why don't they keep that shit separate by default or at least not have EVERY single one of them trying to play at once. Like they could use a static thumbnail with like a play button over the top or something.

In any event, the site is just a horrible mess of inbred assfuckery now. Even the tagging is stupid, like they have these backgrounds on the tags that look like they came from some 90s era clipart collection and since there's no contrasting backdrop/shadow you can't even read the text on most of them to know what the hell they even are.

TL;DR - IMGUR has gone full reeetard. °、 。

First, Imgur was essentially Reddit's image-hosting slave.
Then, when they added comments and other social media aspects, they gained their own (shittier) community, entirely composed of non-relevant discussion and stale memes. That's when it all became the most vile "social media" platform in the history of Man. They're the shitholes who pushed Dickbutt.

When Reddit got it's own image-hosting server, Imgur struggled even harder. They dead now, just trying to make themselves look lively with all these reposted Vines.

AND it's all still reposted content from other websites. Sure, Reddit does that, too, but here it's as late as Facebook (maybe even later).

Yeah, good shit on Imgur has always been few and far between. Their voting system I think has been rigged by bots (or stupid people) for some time too, so a lot of the stuff that gets into the "popular" category is just garbage.

I used to have a web page/script that I used that would aggregate random images off Tumblr and Flickr that would often turn up interesting/obscure stuff, I should start using that again. That or just go to 8Chan.

These days it seems like every single business with a website or app has some UX/UI developer furiously trying to justify their job. You get shit nobody asked for or needed, 'new' features that barely work or downright break everything, shit that's only tested from super high-bandwidth environments on computers that are only a month old. etc... It's like apps and websites have their own version of the 'Peter Principle' where they constantly improve until they reach the level of complete un-usability and then just stay there.

I agree, the site is a nightmare to browse.

Anyone remembers Last.fm?

They even have a tag that's for Mike's hard lemonade. It was for some promotion for every like they donated a few penny to say giraffes if you put the tag on your post.

I really love laughing at Imjurs "community" one post on the front page can be all girl power SJW stuff, and the next post over is a gif of a woman getting punched in the face with the title EQUALITY!! And the comments in both post are eating each other alive. "WAHHH What about Men! We get raped!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" "Imjur hates women and trans and only like post from the good blacks REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!"

One thing I remember from skimming the Imgurian community a few years ago were all of the images posted with accompanying stories that were obvious fakes meant to elict laughs/tears/sympathy/girl power/etc. even if it was something stupid but you were supposed to take it seriously as something that had actually occurred and anyone pointing out even the most obvious inconsistencies would get their comments downvoted into the cellar.

Yeah the downvoting is hilarious, like I tried to poke around in their "community" for awhile and wound up having to contact their tech support after various features and functions wound up inexplicably shut off. Turned out they had tied site functionality into upvotes and their tech support had to routinely RESET PEOPLE'S VOTE COUNTS in order to restore basic functions to their accounts.

Not sure if they're still doing that or not, but it was the most God damn reeetarded thing I had ever encountered on a social media site.

Holy shit, you mean to tell me there's a worse social media site than Reddit?!

Ehh I still use it for uploading stuff. Don't give one damn about seeing other people's images (aside from porn) or any of the community aspects though.

edit: Looks like a fucking Windows 8 application now though.
