Phil's Favorite Footlong

Yes, THAT one.

It's been two months since I first started talking to a woman who's been trying to get in touch with Phil's mom. Now that we've succeeded, I am revealing some of the highlights of the conversation.

Part of why it took so long to find Jackie: Her upstairs neighbor lied and said she moved.

Jackie claimed Angelo didn't rape Phil. This is important, because that would mean she didn't coach Phil to say that for the divorce.

But Angelo was physically abusive.

Joyce did come here trying to find Phil...

Neal was also violent, both against his mother and Phil. Despite this, Phil adored him. Also noteworthy: Neal reported sexual abuse from Angelo as well. At this point, I'm kind of on the fence that maybe it happened.

And on a lighter note, Joyce gets confused about which school I met Phil at

This is what I was able to find on a first read-through that I thought the forum might find interesting. I'm sure there's still more in there, but... two months, and a lot of it's discussing leads and dead ends, and Joyce talking about how Jackie's had a hard life, which is true, but not relevant to our interests. I'll give it another look over when my eyes de-glaze, and see what more I can find buried in there.

Wow. Every time I find out more, I start feeling more and more sorry for Jackie. She has my full sympathy.

I just wish she had just one son who was empathic enough to realize the pain she's been through and to care about it.

For some reason when I read about Phil assaulting his mother in the past I didn't feel much about it, almost like I felt detached from her plight but hearing that she had such a hard time with all of her children and from her husband makes me feel so sorry for her.

Now thinking back on the times Phil gleefully explained how he wasn't paying her back all of the money he owed her or saying on Mother's Day that she was only good in the sense that she wasn't as bad as his dad I feel even worse for her. I'm sure she's not perfect but she got it rough with her children.

This is some great insight Dusty. To me it proves that Phil was at least physically abused by his dad even if he wasn't sexually. For that I feel sympathy towards him. It's still no excuse to be the horrible person he is now though of course

Knowing that Phil was almost strangled by his crazy brother and that Angelo would beat Phil's mom doesn't change the fact, or excuse, that Phil is also crazy and has done some crazy shit (like beat his own mom...). It does explain a lot though.

It's crazy that after all that Phil thought nothing of hitting his disabled mom and threatening her when she wouldn't keep feeding his fat face (From October 2010 when he was 25):

This might explain his leanings towards BDSM, all of the violence in his life from people who are supposed to be close to him (pleasure through pain and what-have-you).

I feel that's the biggest burden for a troubled mother like her. She has my utmost sympathy and respect for having the courage to go this far. May she have good fortune in the near future.

It's not uncommon for children to abuse their mother or father if they see one of them being abused by the other parent. So I'm not all that surprised that Phil started hurting his mom in the wake of his father and older brother.

Phil's family life really is one big fucking rabbit hole of abject misery, isn't it? What's sad is that none of them seem entirely innocent in making it so. Angelo's a wife-beater and either a pedophile, or more likely being falsely accused of it by his own god-damn sons. Jackie just seems like she got caught in a crossfire of crazy, but at the same time, it's hard not to imagine a link between her letting Neal and Phil's bad behaviour slide when they were kids, and them seeing no problem getting violent with her and eachother (and Maria) later on in life.

The lunacy seems to run in the family though I do feel sympathy for those that really had to take it the worst.

I can't say I'm surprised to hear that Angelo apparently beat Jackie. The truth is almost always going to be somewhere in the middle in situations like this.

Fucking hell.... I need to call my parents and tell them I love them. I actually do feel sympathy for Phil on some level now. Moreso for his mom.

I figured Phil had a fucked up childhood, I just had no idea it was that extensive. Holy shit.
