Joyce was a family friend of the Haskins, not a blood relative. She had a messy divorce, which caused her to lose touch with Jackie, who apparently changed her phone number in the interim. When she went to Jackie's address, a neighbor informed her she moved. She's been trying to get back in touch ever since, and to put @MMX at ease, Jackie was apparently very happy to hear from her; she said they talked for a few hours.

Just a quick reminder, for clarity's sake: Phil's mom had a stroke at 19. She was already partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound before Angelo married her and they had Neal. Which means Angelo was allegedly beating up a handicapped and helpless wife.

Before we hang anyone its worth saying this is one persons version of events.
Im not saying Joyce is lying but without angelo and Phils moms version of events all we have is the POV from someone who is strictly a 3rd party.

Ok, well if I had a stroke 10 years ago and still had a kid and they wound up to be a fucking spastic I would encourage my more able bodied significant other to whoop the ever loving shit out of their autistic ass whenever they acted like a fool
 
There are many people in the world (far too many) who come from abusive home environments. Some of them respond by becoming abusers themselves. Others... I would hope the majority... look at what they went through and say "That will never be me", and they live up to it and make better lives for their loved ones.

And then there's Phil who apparently decided to go full herpaderp.

This is very true. Especially when you consider that they're divorced and I've seen the kind of extreme stories that get spun out of bitter divorces.
 
The more I learn about Phil and his past the less I laugh at him and the more I feel for everyone around him.
 
Wow, I feel a lot worse for Jackie considering this was her lot in life. Crippled at a young age, acrimonious divorce which has a decent chance of including domestic violence, and two violently damaged sons to deal with and give up on.

She fucked up, but with that hand, I reckon most anyone would.

When I dig through old stuff I find extremely sad stuff in the lives of some peripheral characters in Phil's saga, which I do not save or mention. For every one lolcow there are fifty related people who just had shitty depressing lives and are not funny or lulzy.
