It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Madrid (AFP) - A porn star has been arrested on manslaughter charges following a man's death during a mystic ritual in which he inhaled psychedelic toad venom, Spanish police said Wednesday.
Nacho Vidal was detained last week in the southeastern Valencia region in connection with the death of a man in July 2019.
Media identified the victim as fashion photographer Jose Luis Abad.
"The police operation began following the victim's death during the celebration of a mystic ritual based on the inhalation of venom of the bufo alvarius toad," a police statement said.
The toad, a rare species which is native to the Sonoran Desert, stretching from northern Mexico into California and Arizona, secretes venom containing a very powerful natural psychedelic substance known as 5-MeO-DMT.
Its effects have been compared to ayahuasca, a powerful hallucinogenic concoction from the Amazon consumed as part of a shamanic ritual.
Following an 11-month inquiry, police arrested Vidal, one of his relatives and an employee on suspicion of manslaughter and crimes against public health.
Investigators said they had discovered such rituals were being carried regularly on grounds they offered medicinal benefits.
But in reality, this "apparently harmless ancestral ritual" posed a "serious health risk", luring people who were "easily influenced, vulnerable or who were seeking help for illnesses or addictions using alternative methods".
Local press said the ceremony took place in the country residence of Vidal, a media-savvy porn star in his mid-40s whose Twitter feed is full of ads for his 25-centimetre aromatic candles of the male genitalia, available in black, white or cerise.

Hong Kong legislature starts voting on controversial China national anthem bill



HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong’s Legislative Council started voting on a controversial national anthem bill on Thursday that would make disrespecting China’s national anthem a criminal offence.

The voting comes just as people in Hong Kong are set to commemorate the bloody 1989 crackdown by Chinese troops in and around Tiananmen Square by lighting candles across the city.

Update: The AP has reported the bill passed.

In response to the current widespread demonstrations against police brutality towards Black people, Brooklyn Nine-Nine announced that the cast and showrunner of the series collectively donated $100,000 dollars to the National Bail Fund network.
This donation came after a number of actors who currently or previously portrayed the police on TV spoke out about their obligation to give back on social media.
Actor and podcaster Griffin Newman, who appeared as Sam Johnson in two episodes of Blue Bloods in 2011, began the trend when he tweeted out a screenshot of his $11,000 donation along with his reasoning for the gesture.

“I’m an out-of-work actor who (improbably) played a detective on two episodes of BLUE BLOODS almost a decade ago,” he wrote.” If you currently play a cop? If you make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop? I’ll let you do the math.”

The recent killing of George Floyd is the latest in an ever-growing list of Black American deaths at the hands of the police. It’s clear that serious reform is needed, and now actors, writers, and other members of Hollywood are attempting to offset the ways they may have glorified or idolized a police culture that in reality is deadly.

Following Newman’s tweet, Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Rosa Diaz on the show, posted her own $11,000 donation with the same message, and also teased Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s $100,000 donation.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit showrunner Warren Leight also chimed in with his donation and message.

“I’m a writer who writes about NYPD’s SVU,” he tweeted. “We strive to depict the uneven distribution of justice in society, but our stories are mostly told from the POV of our dedicated detectives. Inspired by @GriffLightning and @iamstephbeatz I’m donating $11,000 to NAACP Legal Defense Fund.”​

Writer Danielle Weisberg, who’s written for The Simpsons, including lines for Chief Wiggum, quote-tweeted Newman’s message with her own donation.

And Monk writer Tom Scharpling posted a similar thread calling for donations from anyone who has “worked on a TV show or movie in which police are portrayed as lovable goofballs.”

As Scharpling points out, TV and movies have “contributed to the larger acceptance that cops are the implicitly the good guys” which has allowed dangerous and racist behavior to go unchecked at the expense of Black people’s lives. Shows like Live PD, The Rookie, Castle, NCIS, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, and CSI have all given the police force the Hollywood treatment.
A recent study from Color of Change and the USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center reviewed 353 episodes from 26 scripted TV series that focused on crime and police, and found that the overall messaging in them miseducates audiences.
This could stem from the fact that 81% of showrunners were, and are, white men.

Similarly to when actors donated their salaries from working with accused predators like Woody Allen, actors and writers on these shows need to consider how their work has contributed to misinformation and pay up. And they should diversify their writer’s rooms while they’re at it.

Well, news is getting back to normal around here.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has arrested a woman in connection to a child pornography investigation in which her husband currently sits in jail for.

This investigation began in January 2020 after a Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit forwarded images that were tracked to the Jones, Okla., area.

During the investigation, OSBI agents determined the images were of a 14-month-old child and were taken in November 2018.

That led to the arrest of 26-year-old Cherokee White and 28-year-old Joseph Rogers, who are married.

Rogers was arrested last month, while White was arrested this week.

A forensic investigation of electronics seized after Rogers’ arrest revealed additional sexual assault crimes committed by both parents against the same child from the 2018 pictures. Additionally, it was discovered the pair were violating a pet.

White is currently in the Oklahoma County Jail facing multiple charges including child sexual abuse, manufacturing child pornography, bestiality and unauthorized use of a computer.

Rogers remains in the Oklahoma County Jail facing charges that include child sexual abuse, lewd or indecent proposals/acts to a child, distributing, manufacturing and possession of child pornography and unlawful use of a computer. He could face additional charges as a result of the ongoing investigation.

The children have been removed from the home and now are in protective custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

This can especially be true when it comes to our pet friends who have to go see specialists that don’t even speak ‘woof’ or ‘meow’. Well, if you’re a pet parent taking your four-legged child to the vet, take a page from this cat’s book on how to calm your nervous pet.

This just over 10-second-long video was originally shared on Reddit in 2018. Now, a shorter version of the clip has resurfaced on the subreddit ‘animals being bros’.

Captioned, “Kitty comforting a nervous pupper at the vet”, the recording shows a feline inside a pen, probably waiting for its turn to go see the doctor. A doggo is seen lying right in front of the kitty’s cage. The dismay of being at the clinic is visible in the pooch’s eyes.

The cat, probably sensing the dog’s uneasiness, puts a tentative paw on the canine’s forehead. It starts slowly tapping and caressing the pooch, almost as if saying, “There there, there there”. This video may explain why Sheldon Cooper loves listening to ‘Soft Kitty Warm Kitty’ when he’s ill.

A gay couple is seen getting intimate in a new advert on Polish TV – believed to be the first time the country has seen a same-sex couple in a commercial.
The advert for Durex comes after a year when about a third of the country has set up ‘LGBT-Free Zones’.
The advert features well-known YouTubers Jakub and Dawid Mycek-Kwiecinski. The couple are famous for their LGBT+ activism in Poland.
Recently, they have been distributing rainbow face masks in the LGBT-Free Zones to simultaneously fight both homophobia and coronavirus.
The couple described the new commercial as an ‘historic moment in Polish TV’.
The advert for Durex’s ‘Loud in bed’ campaign shows three couples starting to get intimate. In the case of Jakub and Dawid, they appear to be giving each other a quarantine haircut before they get frisky. Naturally, there are condoms in easy reach.
They told GSN the campaign will air on all major TV channels in Poland, but also in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Lithuania.

The battle for LGBT+ visibility in Poland
It’s a return to TV for Jakub Mycek-Kwiecinski who worked as a presenter at national broadcaster TVP for nine years. In 2018, he told GSN that TVP fired him because he is gay.
TVP made the decision after Jacek Kurski, a former member of the conservative political party Law and Justice, became president of the company.
Meanwhile the Law and Justice Party (PiS) stirred up homophobia to win the 2019 Polish general elections.
Furthermore, multiple cities and districts have declared themselves as ‘LGBT-Free Zones’ in the last 18 months.
Now 100 municipalities and five voivodships or provinces, the largest administrative unit in Poland, are so-called LGBT-Free Zones. Together they cover a third of the country and make up an area around the size of Hungary.
Moreover, the PiS has continued its homophobic agenda. The parliament is currently considering an anti-LGBT+ Stop Pedophilia bill that could destroy sex education in the country.
Now the battle to beat the PiS will focus on the elections for Poland’s president, due this summer.
Previously sitting President Andrzej Duda, technically an independent but actually the Polish Law and Justice Party (PiS) candidate, seemed sure to win.


But now Rafał Trzaskowski, mayor of Poland’s capital Warsaw has emerged as the candidate who could beat Duda. He is an LGBT+ ally and pro-EU.

Poland is pretty cool when it comes to gays. Mass protests of pride parades. Homo flag burnings. Beatings.
I can't wait to see how they react to this. We could learn a lot from these guys.
