It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

After Washington, DC, the lightning striked Cuba.

More than a dozen firefighters are missing after multiple explosions at a fuel depot in western Cuba engulfed the area in flames leaving more than 70 people injured.
Authorities have blamed a lightning strike on Friday night for the incident, but the fire spread early Saturday from one fuel tank to a second, sending a huge plume of black smoke into the sky.

Emergency services were still trying to quell the blaze at the Matanzas Supertanker Base, 100 kilometres (62 miles) east of Havana last night, but some 17 firefighters have been reported missing.
At least 15 people have been taken to hospital, while nearly 1,000 have been evacuated from their homes in the area, according to regional officials.
The Facebook page of the provincial government of Matanzas said the number of injured had reached 77, while 17 people were missing. The Presidency of the Republic said the 17 were "firefighters who were in the nearest area trying to prevent the spread."

Not really an article, more of something worth noting - you know how the lgbt community is going squirrely alot recently over accusations and being groomers and such?

'We're not groomers - but you should totally buy literally queer lego for your kids to play with'

Whats that saying about getting them while they're young? Totally no grooming intent at all there i'm sure. Just what kid of lego age is watching queer eye for the straight guy unless their parents are exposing them to some questionable things?
Lego recently started to pander to the "adult" fans of their product. You know, the people willing to drop 800+USD on some kind of Star Wars build.

A seven year old probably doesn't care about a Lego replica build of Optimus Prime or Voltron from that one show in the 80s but his dad/uncle/grandfather might be more willing to drop a couple hundred to "relive his childhood" and to get a nice dust collector for the shelf full of other dust collectors.

Everett Police in Washington state is hoping the public can help identify the man that stiffed an 11-year-old boy with a fake $100 bill to buy lemonade from his stand.

"Over the summer, an 11-year-old Jeremy spent his allowance money to set up a lemonade stand on Beverly Blvd. As he worked in the sun trying to earn a little extra spending money, he was approached by the pictured suspect, who offered him a 100-dollar bill for a drink but asked for exact change," Everett Police said in a Facebook post.

Jeremy used all his allowance money to give the man $85 dollars in change, only to later find out that the $100 dollar bill was fake when he went to a local gas station to buy something and was left with no allowance money.

However, this sad story does have a good ending.

When a neighbor of the family found out what happened to Jeremy, she helped organize a GoFundMe account for him that has so far raised more than $1,800.

I hope the douchebag gets hit by a fucking semi truck.

That said, giving an 11 year old nearly $2,000 for being swindled reselling drinks shows how stupid people are with their money. GoFundMe was supposed to be for raising money for shit like medical treatment and your house burning down or a loved one dying, not "my son got scammed out of 95 dollars by a fat asshole, give me money to make me feel better"

Ashton Kutcher was very close to death.

Ashton Kutcher is opening up for the first time about a medical disorder that left him without the ability to hear, see or walk.

Access Hollywood has an exclusive sneak peek at an upcoming episode of National Geographic’s “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge,” where the actor spoke about a rare autoimmune disorder he developed.

“Like two years ago, I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis, that like knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out like all my equilibrium.” It took him about a year to build each back up again, Ashton revealed to Bear.

Vasculitis is a rare autoimmune disorder with many variations which can cause inflammation of the blood vessels, restricting blood flow and leading to organ and tissue damage in some.

“You don’t really appreciate it, until it’s gone,” he said, “Until you go, ‘I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to see again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to walk again’.”

“Lucky to be alive,” he says.

More than 300 Haitians found on sailboat grounded near Florida's Key Largo

A U.S. Border Patrol official said 113 jumped ship and were taken into custody; the estimated 220 who remained were in the custody of the U.S. Coast Guard.

More than 300 Haitians were discovered on a dilapidated wooden sailboat that was grounded near Key Largo on Saturday, U.S. Border Patrol officials said.

When 113 of the people on board jumped ship, U.S. Coast Guard and Border Patrol crews made rescues and took the migrants into custody, officials said.

They were screened for medical issues, and two had to be treated for dehydration, said the Border Patrol's Walter N. Slosar, chief of the agency's Miami sector.

An estimated 220 other Haitians remained on the vessel and were taken into custody en masse, he said.

Their reason for travel was unknown, however, Haitians have been migrating to the United States in the last few years to escape political instability, the aftermath of natural disasters and poverty.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP, data show nearly 50,000 Haitian migrants were encountered at U.S. boundaries in 2021, and nearly 40,000 in 2022 through the end of June. The United States has expelled or deported thousands of Haitians, though that number fell in June as the Biden administration allowed more coming through legal ports of entry to seek asylum.

It was at least the second time since March that a vessel with 300 or so Haitians has landed in the Florida Keys. A March 6 landing was described by CBP as a "smuggling event."

Slosar said in a video Saturday said officials were working to identify "the smugglers who crammed these people onto that vessel." He said they were also working to transfer the people on board the sailboat into the “the immigration process."

"We are working to keep then safe, clean, fed and healthy and identify exactly who they are and what they may or may not have brought with them to the country," he said.

Many migrants from Cuba and Haiti have attempted to cross the Straits of Florida in dilapidated vessels and even on flotation devices, prompting lifesaving rescues from the Coast Guard.

On Saturday the Coast Guard said it was still searching for five missing Cubans believed to have been on a boat that capsized Friday near Sugarloaf Key. The bodies of two were pulled from the water, and eight survivors were rescued, the agency said.

"These ventures are dangerous and not recommended," John Priddy, director of southeast air and marine operations for CBP, tweeted.

Looks like a woman won't get her 72 virgins men.
A hero-father-of-three restrained a woman who stripped to her underwear and ran through a Manchester-bound plane naked before trying to storm the cockpit twice while shouting 'Allahu Akbar'.

Phillip O'Brien, 35, was a passenger on the Jet2 flight from Lanarca, Cyprus to Manchester on Tuesday 9 August when a woman, in her 30s, caused the panicked scene shortly after take-off.

The woman seemed to suggest she had explosives on board with her, and also asked the children she was with if they were 'ready to die'.

She also told the terrified passengers and staff that her parents were members of terror group ISIS.

Mr O'Brien, a drainage firm boss, was on board with six of his family members, including his wife and three children aged eight to 14.

Indiana Teacher Requires Students To Provide Pronouns, Personal Contact Information (Archive)

An Indiana high school teacher required students to fill out a personal information form asking their pronouns and private contact information, according to documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Margaret Hite, orchestra teacher at Carmel Clay High School in Carmel, Indiana, required students to fill out a “Get To Know You” questionnaire on the first day of school, Aug. 10, according to documents obtained by the DCNF. Students listed their preferred pronouns, whether their parents know about their gender identity and a personal email address, and could not move on to the next question unless they did so.
