It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Welcome to the Political Era of the Paranoid Delusion

President Joe Biden was interviewed last night, his first since his much-discussed debate performance. If you check around online, you will find two simultaneous narratives about this interview, passionately held: that the interviewer George Stephanopoulos and his employer ABC News were bent on embarrassing and attacking Biden, and that the interviewer George Stephanopoulos and his employer ABC News were bent on lionizing Biden and papering over his flaws. It was a hit job; it was a puff piece. The questions were unduly harsh; the questions were softballs. They avoided the hardest topics for Biden to discuss, unless they steered directly towards those questions over and over again. Stephanopoulos was too combative, or was he not combative enough? They taped the piece so that they could surreptitiously edit out Biden’s gaffes and stumbles; they designed the lighting so that it would make Biden look sickly and old. And now The Media™ is reacting to the interview by fixating on Biden’s weaknesses, or maybe they’re treating those weaknesses with kid gloves. What both sides are sure of is that, however the fallout from the interview breaks, it breaks because of dirty tricks, because of chicanery, because of a conspiracy against their side. There is no other option, no alternative. If my side loses, ever, the game was rigged. It’s a conspiracy, and they’re all in on it.

If I had to choose between these two tendencies I would obviously have to choose the blue MAGA over the red. Doing so would protect abortion and environmental regulations and the NLRB, among many other things. It’s not a contest, for me. But of course I’d prefer to choose neither. Blue MAGA is very, very real; the paranoid style has spread like a coronavirus from Republicans to Democrats. Put “The New York Times” into the Twitter search bar on any given day and you’ll find relentless, enraged invective coming from Democratic loyalists who insist that the paper of record is on a mission to reelect Donald Trump. They used to laugh at Republicans when they groused about “skewed polls,” but now they do the exact same thing - any poll that emerges that suggests Biden is losing is a conservative op, run by a firm with a well-known Republican bias. Hacks! That Nate Silver, you know, he’s on the Trump payroll. And while this phenomenon is most pronounced on the streets, Democratic elites have embraced it too. Look at Bruce Bartlett, look at Joy Ann Reid, look at Aaron Rupar, look at Josh Marshall, look at Rachel Maddow. They’re all sure: the narrative that we shouldn’t give another four and a half years to Joe Biden, an octogenarian who looks and acts like the 81-year-old he is, can only be the product of corruption. No sincere heart could look at that man on the debate stage with anything but awe and admiration.

Of course, conservatism is now built on a foundation not of Christianity or free markets but on the belief that elites are screwing you, that it’s all a conspiracy against you and your way of life. That is the bedrock. That is the new covenant - paranoia, obsession, revenge. “They’re all out to get you,” says Trumpism, “and I will destroy your enemies.” You don’t even need me to tell you that.

This, it seems, is where we are: two warring political tribes who share the foundational principle that anything that goes wrong for them is the product of a rigged system. Two angry players, too busy working the refs to concentrate on the game, looking for some higher authority to declare that the other side broke the rules. This isn’t fair. They’re breaking the rules. I’m telling the teacher. They’re denying us what we’re owed. Today the parties are united only in their belief that, on a neutral field and playing a clean game, they cannot lose. If a single voter endorses the opposition, their opponents must be cheating. How could it be otherwise? Surely only conspiracy could defeat us. Surely only The Man could pull the wool over the eyes of millions. This was much more of a Republican thing, and I know that people hate any argument that sounds like “both sides.” But both sides, in fact, are now operating this way. The notion that Democrats cannot fail in a clean election, cannot stumble but through illegitimate outside force, is now fully enculturated into the party. They hate Trump so much they’ve adopted his signature contribution to American politics. And I don’t know how you get out of this without violence, at this point. I really don’t.

Sorry for the double post but the guys of American Thinker posted this interesting article about the jews and the Enlightenment.

Europe’s Jews are seeing that the Enlightenment, not Hitler, was the aberration

By Andrea Widburg

Since the mid-18th century, people in the West viewed the Enlightenment as a historical movement that marked a turning point in human nature. We would retreat from our tribal, primitive, mindless ways and tread a higher path, forever abandoning irrationality. Jews, for whom the Enlightenment provided a magical release from Europe’s massacres and ghettos, bought into this notion with special fervor. Hitler, they thought, was an aberration, and many believed communism might be the re-set needed to restore rationality. They were wrong. Hitler wasn’t the aberration. He was the reversion to the norm, and Europe is reverting again.

The Romans hated the Jews because their war with the Kingdom of Judea was one of the most fiercely fought and expensive wars in the history of the Roman Empire. When the Romans finally defeated the Kingdom of Judea, they exiled most Jews from the lands those Jews had occupied for almost 2,000 years and renamed Judea “Palestine,” after the Biblical Philistines, as an insult to the conquered people.
The Jews caused problems again when they refused to join the rest of Rome in embracing Christianity, thereby incurring the enmity of the Roman church. In the same way, they earned both Mohamed’s and Martin Luther’s enduring hatred. Sticking to your principles when everyone urges you to abandon them will not excite admiration. It will, instead, make you hated.

a flat tire is different from a blown tire. a flat tire happens from road debris puncturing a good tire. A tire blows because it doesn't get replaced on time or gets damaged or overheated by having the wrong pressure or the brakes or other components not working correctly.

None of which would be boeings fault. Aircraft tires are filled with nitrogen not air and are at an extremely high pressure they also have a life of only a couple hundred flights this tire has probably been replaced many times already.

Woman charged with inciting 500-person riot at Brandon Astro Skate, sheriff says

Stephanie Pedroso is facing charges after she incited a riot at a Brandon skate park, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. [ Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office ]

If Stephanie Pedroso’s daughter couldn’t have her birthday at Astro Skate in Brandon, then no one could.

That’s what Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said motivated Pedroso to make social media posts urging people to “terrorize” the skating rink the night of May 18, sparking a riot that took more than 40 sheriff’s deputies to quell.

“If y’all still go up there, tear the f--k out of them,” Pedroso said in an Instagram livestream during the attack. “I’ve got some money for y’all.”

A crowd of about 500 people obliged. At around 9:20 p.m., they poured into the street near the rink and wreaked havoc. Fights broke out, and a teen was thrown through the plate-glass window of a nearby barber shop. Rioters broke into a 7-Eleven across the street and looted it, causing $500 in damages, sheriff’s officials said.

After six hours of mayhem, 23 children and three adults were arrested. Pedroso, who stayed home on the night of the riot, was not among them.

No deputies were injured, though Chronister said rioters punched and jumped on the backs of deputies trying to make arrests.

All this, Chronister said, because the skate rink canceled the reservation for Pedroso’s daughter’s party. The contract required her to hire two off-duty deputies for event security, and because she didn’t, the venue canceled the event and issued a full refund.

Pedroso now faces felony charges for inciting a riot and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. Others present were charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer.

“Stephanie Pedroso intended to cause terror the evening of May 18, and that’s exactly what she did,” Chronister said.

Pedroso could not be reached for comment Thursday by phone or email.

Hillsborough County State Attorney Suzy Lopez, in the midst of a reelection campaign, tried to use the charges to strike a contrast with her predecessor, suspended state attorney Andrew Warren.

“The Legislature enacts the law, we enforce the law,” Lopez said. “That may be confusing for some people, but it is not confusing for me.”

Warren shot back in a statement, noting that his office filed more than 265 charges following violence in May 2020 at protests over the police killing of George Floyd.

“Clearly the acting state attorney is lying about my record because she’s desperate to distract from the fact that crime has skyrocketed under her watch,” Warren wrote.

At Thursday’s news conference, Lopez noted that speech advocates in 2021 challenged the anti-incitement statute used to charge Pedroso on the grounds that it was unconstitutionally vague and could be used to crack down on protesters.

The Florida Supreme Court upheld the anti-incitement law in June, though clarified that it could not be applied to bystanders at protests or to protesters who do not participate in violence.

“This case is not about free speech,” Lopez said. “This case is about rioters, and in Hillsborough County, we will prosecute rioters.”
Woman Arrested for Inciting Riot at Astro Skate in Brandon

Stephanie-Pedroso.jpg

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a woman following violence that took place outside Astro Skate in May.

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 9:20 p.m., our Communications Center received a call from an off-duty HCSO deputy that a large crowd of 500 people had shown up to Astro Skate in Brandon, where several violent fights had broken out.

With further investigation, deputies have now arrested Stephanie Pedroso, 36, for her part in inciting the violence that took place that night. Deputies also arrested Pedroso's husband, James Knight II, 38, on an unrelated charge of Driving with License Suspended, Canceled, or Revoked (3rd Offense).

Pedroso was booked on the following charges:
  • Inciting a Riot
  • Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device
  • Driving with License Suspended, Canceled, or Revoked (3rd Offense)
"Using social media to weaponize our youth is absolutely deplorable," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "As a parent, I cannot fathom what went through this woman's mind when she put lives at risk to provoke this mayhem."

Detectives found that Pedroso had initiated a contract with Astro Skate on May 14, 2024, to host an "after-hours birthday party" for her daughter. She shared the event on her daughter's social media, which gained considerable attention and hundreds of likes.

In breach of the Astro Skate contract, she failed to secure the required off-duty deputies for the after-hours party. Due to the failure to meet the contract requirements, Astro Skate canceled the reservation on May 17, 2024. Pedroso was issued a refund.

That's when Pedroso used her daughter's social media to make a live video encouraging friends to show up to inflict violence in the community, which included many of the businesses around Astro Skate.

In the Instagram live video stream, Pedroso could be heard making multiple violent and vulgar statements as well as numerous racial slurs.

We have included several of those statements below:
  • “For y’all, if y’all still go up there, tear the fuck out of them. I’ve got some money for y’all, and I’ll pay y’all ass.”
  • “I hope everybody still show up and tear this bitch up tomorrow.”
  • “Make them crackers work.”
  • “Stress them the fuck out.”
  • “Fuck that, we should still go to Astro.”
In response to the comments on the live video, the following statements could also be heard:
  • “They said, they still going.”
  • “They said they finna protest at Astro and still go and terrorize it.”
Once on scene, it took deputies nearly six hours to contain the behavior that led to one injury and five local businesses sustaining damage. Deputies arrested 23 juveniles and three adults for the escalation of the chaos at the scene.

"I want to be clear: using social media to encourage people to riot and destroy businesses is completely unacceptable, and we will not tolerate that here in Hillsborough County," said Sheriff Chronister. "This serves as a stark reminder of how quickly situations can spiral out of control and show the importance of responsible behavior and the consequences of inciting violence."

Any further information on this case will be released from the Public Affairs Office.

Women Taking Responsibility and Accountability Challenge: Impossible

Reads OK at first glance, right?
I decided to glance through the entire amendment and while the AI analysis is pretty off I figured I'd drop some highlights below for you guys:

(e) behaviour that directly or indirectly...monitors or tracks a person’s activities, communications or movements, whether by physically following the person, using technology or in another way
Do you have Life360 in your family? Do you have FindMyiPhone on? Well not anymore - you're abusing her! Guess you can't check her phone for messages either, though if you're at the stage where you need to do that then maybe it's best for you not to be together.

(i) behaviour that deprives a person of liberty, restricts a person’s liberty or otherwise unreasonably controls or regulates a person’s day-to-day activities.
Examples for paragraph (i)—
• making unreasonable demands about how a person exercises the person’s personal, social or sexual autonomy and making threats of negative consequences for failing to comply with the demands

With how Australia is, I'm sure that her "sexual autonomy" means sleeping with anyone she so pleases. I love how they say "unreasonable" as if they can't just say any action is unreasonable.

Without limiting subsection (1), a review under this section must consider the following—
(c) the impact of this Division on Aboriginal people, culturally and linguistically diverse people and LGBTQI+ people,

Phew, looks like the lesbians can still beat each other up in peace.

British firefighters rescue kitten from car axle

British firefighters rescue kitten from car axle

A kitten was rescued from the axle of a car by firefighters in England and has now been adopted into a new home.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said on social media that crews from Market Harborough Fire and Rescue Station recently received a call about a kitten in distress and arrived to fine the feline was hiding in the axle of a car.

Firefighters used cat food to coax the kitten out of her hiding place -- but she then fled underneath another nearby vehicle.

"After some further persuading, the kitten was rescued for the second time and taken to the local vet for a check over," firefighters wrote.

A follow-up post revealed the kitten has now been adopted.

"Thank you so much for rescuing her! We have adopted her and named her Sofia, she is settling in really well in her new home," the feline's new owner, identified as Anna, told firefighters.
