It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

German warship blasts Darth Vader anthem in heart of London. ‘No deeper message,’ navy says.

BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s navy says there was “no deeper message” in the choice to blast the famed Imperial March — Darth Vader’s theme song in the “Star Wars” films — from one of its warships as it cruised down the River Thames through London this week.

A bystander captured the spectacle Monday on video, which quickly went viral on social media. The song selection made waves across Europe. The warship was in the area for training and dropped anchor in London for a normal supply stop, the German navy said.

“The commander can choose the music freely,” the navy said in a statement Thursday. “The choice of music has no deeper message.”

Other video recorded the warship, the Braunschweig, playing “London Calling,” the 1979 hit from British rock band The Clash, upon its arrival in London. The song’s title is drawn from the BBC World Service station identification in World War II and its lyrics include the lines, “London calling to the zombies of death/Quit holding out and draw another breath.”

The Braunschweig is named for a city in Germany’s Lower Saxony — an area far, far away from the United Kingdom — and part of the country’s newest class of ocean-going corvettes.

For its departure, a tugboat pulled the warship down the river near Tower Bridge as sailors — without any lightsabers, sadly — stood on the deck. This trip was the Braunschweig’s second to the British capital, the Germany Embassy in London wrote on the social media platform X.

The warship’s commander “is a big ‘Star Wars’ fan and an admirer of the legendary musical scores of John Williams,” the embassy said in a statement. “He chooses a different Williams tune whenever his ship is visiting a foreign harbor.”

There’s no word whether Anakin Skywalker himself was aboard.
Headline sounds much more badass than the reality of the video.

Employees rescued a soaked kitten found lost inside an Ohio car wash, and the feline has now been dubbed Turbo Rinse.

The Fayette Regional Humane Society said on social media that Kierra Mills, team lead at Ultimate Shine Car Wash in Washington Court House, found the kitten in the turbo-blaster area of the wash during a routine inspection.



"I heard a kitten meowing and followed the sound until I found him. He looked terrified, soaking wet and shaking, so I brought him inside our main office and began drying him off as quickly as I could," Mills said.

Workers theorized the orange-and-white tabby may have been tucked up underneath a vehicle that came in for a wash.

"When the car entered the wash, the powerful turbo blasters likely flushed the kitten out from its hiding spot and into the path of the high-pressure water jets," the post said.



The kitten, now dubbed Turbo Rinse, was taken to the Fayette Regional Humane Society, where he was found to be uninjured.

"This could have ended very differently if not for the attentiveness of the car wash staff," said Brad Adams, chief humane agent at the FRHS. "It's a reminder to always check under your vehicle, especially if you have cats or kittens on your property."

Turbo will be made available for adoption once he has been vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

"We're happy to be a part of the community and grateful for the work of the humane society," Ultimate Shine Car Wash Site Manager Jessica Bellomy said.

Chase bank apparently has a "glitch" where they will approve you for a loan fairly leniently, only they make the money available immediately for withdrawal. Others discovered if you deposit a fake check, it auto-updates your balance and you can withdraw it immediately.

Chase has apparently pushed a patch to place an auto 7 day hold on funds for checks and loans for the time being to stop the abuse. And I wager everyone involved is going to get a visit from the cops.

Reminds me of an old Jeff Foxworthy sketch about having somebody show up to reposses his truck unless he paid his outstanding balance (back when he was young).

Decided to look up one of my old summer school teachers, Ethan Deneault, on a whim and received more than I cared to find. When he wasn't serving as a summer school teacher or professor of physics at University of Tampa he was vacationing in Georgia to film himself watching CSAM in a kids bedroom.

This all happened back in February and I can't find anything on him since then, which is strange considering his position at UT. Zero hits for him on any Georgia legal database. Did he die in prison or something?

One guy in Minnesota got the Darrell Brooks disease.

Two people were killed and three were injured after a driver plowed his car into a restaurant's outdoor patio in Minnesota.

Police in St. Louis Park said they responded to Park Tavern on Sunday evening just after 8pm, and the driver has been arrested for probable cause of criminal vehicular homicide.

Surveillance footage showed the unidentified motorist entering the parking lot, but not into the restaurant, KSTP reports.

Officials say he then tried to park before accelerating into the patio.

Nasty character.

He was extradited to Butts County.
Probably still awaiting trial there, and not in a particular hurry to be convicted and sent to prison f'real.

A theft suspect driving a stolen Ford Bronco was boxed in by police cars at a Tim Hortons drive-thru in Mississauga (just west of Toronto) so he tried driving *over* two of the cruisers to escape. He couldn't quite clear the police SUV but I think he could have done it if both police cars had been Dodge Chargers.

The FBI had raided homes of Eric Adams' top aides.

NEW YORK — Federal authorities honed in on the upper echelons of New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ administration this week, executing raids on several top city officials and seizing the cellphones of at least one other senior adviser.

Law enforcement agents raided the Manhattan home shared by Sheena Wright, the city’s first deputy mayor, and her romantic partner, Schools Chancellor David Banks, as well as the Queens home of the deputy mayor for public safety, Philip Banks, five people with knowledge of the situation told POLITICO.

Agents also searched NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban’s home, and Tim Pearson — a senior adviser to Adams and one of his closest confidants — was subpoenaed for his cellphones, according to reporting in the New York Post and the Daily News.

German police raid the home of a member of Artikel 5 e.V., a privacy rights organization which hosts Tor exit nodes, to seize the exit nodes.
The exit nodes were not at his home and are instead hosted in a data center in the name of the organization and only middle relays were hosted at his address, which are legal and "non-problematic" to host from home.

Hello to all list-reading entities!


On Aug 16th 2024 German police considered it once again appropriate to raid the home&office at the registered address of our organization. The first raid was 2017. There are obviously still people working in German law enforcement today, who think that harassing a node-operator NGO would somehow lead to the de-anonymization of individual tor users. At least that is what they claim in the paperwork.


As with the first time, the raid team was fortunately a bit better educated and acted significantly more reasonable than the non-technical people applying for the raid and the judge signing it off. So again, no hardware was seized. Apart from one burnt (middle relay) node and some billing paperwork for the exit node this was all about, the team left the house after one and a half hours with mostly empty hands. We intend to legally challenge the search warrant to make sure that this does not happen again (but this is not what this email here is about).


These were once again one and a half hours with armed police in a personal living room, threatening to de-facto kill a livelihood and software business (carrying a truckload hardware away) of an non-profit board member to force cooperation.


As a consequence, I am personally no longer willing to provide my personal address&office-space as registered address for our non-profit/NGO as long as we risk more raids by running exit nodes.
That is a risk I am just no longer willing to take anymore.


Artikel 5 e.V. is now calling for a general assembly on Sep 21st 2024.
We are looking for new board members (who take over and organize a new registered address and keep running exits) or discuss ALL alternative options. These options include "just stop running exits" or even the most drastic step of liquidating the entire organization and distribution of the remaining budget to other German organizations (that would have to qualify under our non-profit by-laws).
