It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.
Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.
While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.
"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

A Lancaster County woman strangled her sister and threw two dead foxes into her yard during a fight, according to police.
Charging documents allege Jessica Gardner, 42, of Lititz, was visiting her sister at her home in Clay Township on Feb. 26 when the two got into an argument.
Northern Lancaster County Regional police said Gardner left and returned with the two fox carcasses, which she tossed into the yard and vehicles parked in the yard.
"The defendant did this to annoy and alarm the victim in which the action served no legitimate purpose," police wrote in the criminal complaint.
Gardner left again and returned, and there was another argument.
Police said Gardner put her hands around the victim's neck and applied pressure, shoved her to the ground and slapped her in the face.
Gardner is charged with strangulation, simple assault and disorderly conduct.
Giraffe escapes Arizona zoo enclosure to snack on tree
An Arizona zoo opened late due to a 3-year-old giraffe escaping from her enclosure to make a meal out of a nearby tree.
The Reid Park Zoo in Tucson said Msituni, a giraffe who has only been at the zoo a short time, was found outside her enclosure just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.
"Msituni was calm throughout this time," the zoo said on social media. "She stayed in one place, looking around and snacking on a nearby mesquite tree."
The giraffe eventually returned to her habitat on her own.
The zoo's opening was delayed for about an hour and a half as a result of the escape.
"There will be short-term modifications made before Msituni is able to be back on habitat and those modifications began immediately following the incident," the post said. "Longer-term permanent modifications will be made as well to accommodate Msituni's athletic and curious nature."
Man YouTube body cam channels show the craziest shit. Here’s a cop who jacked a junkie’s drugs then went back to base to toke up only to overdose in the bathroom because it had fentanyl. I’m kinda addicted to these things now.
On 3/6/2025, at approximately 1314 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call that a loader operator clearing snow on Alaska Way in Fairbanks had been shot at and a knife had been thrown at them. AST arrived and found the suspect, Curtis Dale Chamberlain was still on scene. Chamberlain was arrested for Attempted Murder 1, and two counts of Assault 3 charges.
Eavesdropping on whale songs over the last six years is providing new information vital to answering questions about these giants of the ocean.
The number of whale songs detected is associated with shifting food sources, according to the California scientists—and the number of days humpbacks have been singing has nearly doubled.
When monitoring baleen whale songs in the Pacific Ocean, researchers found year-to-year variations corollated with changes in the availability of the species they forage on.
In vast oceans, monitoring populations of large marine animals can be a “major challenge” for ecologists, explained Dr. John Ryan, a biological oceanographer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in California (MBARI).
Their team deployed underwater microphones called hydrophones to study and track baleen whales, which communicate over long distances through sound.
“Surprisingly, the acoustic behavior of baleen whales provides insights about which species can better adapt to changing ocean conditions,” said Dr. Ryan, a lead author of the study.
They also monitored songs from blue, fin, and humpback whales off the West Coast of the U.S. to see what the song data could reveal about the health of their ecosystem.
The findings, published in the journal PLOS One, showed “large” year-to-year variations in whale song detection.
“The amount of humpback whale song continually increased, with their songs being detected on 34% of days at the beginning of the study and rising to 76% of days after six years,” said Dr. Ryan.
“These increases consistently tracked improved foraging conditions for humpback whales across all study years—large increases in krill abundance, followed by large increases in anchovy abundance.
“This distinction of humpback whales is consistent with their ability to switch between dominant prey. An analysis of skin biopsy samples confirmed that changes had occurred in the whales’ diets.”
He explained that other factors, including the local abundance of whales, may have contributed to patterns in song detections observed in some years, but changes in foraging conditions were the most consistent factor.
“Overall, the study indicates that seasonal and annual changes in the amount of baleen whale song detected may mirror shifts in the local food web.”
“The results suggest that an understanding of the relationship between whale song detection and food availability may help researchers to interpret future hydrophone data, both for scientific research and whale management efforts”, which could better protect endangered species.
DETROIT (WKRC) - A man accidentally shot himself in the foot while trying to kill a cockroach in an unlucky and unfortunate series of events.
Police said that the victim, a 50-year-old man who uses a wheelchair, was attempting to kill a cockroach with his shoe.
He took off his shoe and threw it at the bug to kill it, but a revolver he had hidden in the shoe fell to the ground. Upon making contact with the floor, the gun discharged and the bullet hit the victim in the foot.
According to Freep, police said the man was in stable condition after going to the hospital.
(Obviously he had VATS turned off while attempting to kill the radroach)
A new research study details the first documented observance of sex between humpback whales in the wild. Interestingly, the mating behavior was between two male humpbacks.
“Despite decades of research on humpback whales around the world [. . .] copulation in humpback whales has not yet been documented,” the researchers wrote in study, which published at the end of February in the scientific journal Marine Mammal Science. “This is the first report of penetration by a humpback whale, and the first report of sexual activity between two male humpback whales.”
The study includes surprising images of the two animals copulating. Photographers Lyle Krannichfeld and Brandi Romano came across the scene by chance back in 2022. The pair discovered the whales off the coast of Maui, and knowing they’d stumbled upon something never before seen, they shared their photos with Stephanie Stack of the Pacific Whale Foundation, who ended up being the lead author on the study. Stack told Scientific American that when she saw the images, she realized the whales were both males, making the interaction even more rare.
Here’s the uncensored version of the humpbacks’ mating behavior:
For 200 years Hampstead Heath was a ‘safe place’ for cruising. Now that’s under threat [[archive]]
‘Sexual freedom’ activists and concerned locals have gone to war over a public sex location famously beloved by George Michael
Lola Pony, 34, performance trash artivistand music alchemist, told The Telegraph that the counter-protest was organised to counteract hate crime because the poster targeted a marginalised community.
Dog walkers have been branded “homophobes” for trying to stop gay men cruising on Hampstead Heath.
The popular walking spot has been at the centre of a row after residents put up signs to deter gay men hooking up for sex at “the f--- tree” and other locations that could be near playing children.
Hampstead Heath has been a popular cruising spot since Victorian times, and the practice has continued since homosexuality was decriminalised in 1967.
The posters read: “Cruising for sex? Homosexuality is legal. Use a hook-up app like Grindr or Sniffies and get a room.”
They also feature a map of the park with a red circle labelled: “This is not a cruising Opponents of the posters have now hit back with claims they “embolden homophobia” and perpetuate “inaccurate stereotypes” about gay people.
They claim cruising is part of a wider cultural movement and only happens on a very small part of the heath, which has been a “special meeting place for over 200 years”.
Lola Pony, 34, performance trash artivist and music alchemist, told The Telegraph that the counter-protest was organised to counteract hate crime because the poster targeted a marginalised community.
“The poster creates division, and because of the current global political climate, can incite hate crimes. We are a vulnerable community. Our action is protection and emphasises care and human connection,” she said.
A video of the counter-protest showed four men exposing their bottoms as a blindfolded man squeezed their cheeks in a competition of “whose bum is it anyway?” while police officers watched on. Nearby, people held up signs that read: “This is a cruising ground, release the pups” and “let’s go outside”.
Images on social media showed protesters holding a sign reading “take me to the f--- tree”, a tree where cruisers are said to have sNestled in the woodland, some distance away from the footpaths and open areas that are often packed with runners, buggies and picnickers, people meet at all times of the day for sexual encounters – but it is usually busier at night.
“I talked to some locals there and they didn’t even know this [cruising] happens, some joined us for a while,” Ms Pony added.
“The times I have been in the heath, I haven’t seen needles or condoms. Cruising in the area is frequent but it needs to be supported by safe sex measures [and] harm reduction.”
Other protesters said the posters are “yet another attack on queer culture”, which has frequently been targeted in hate crimes.
One speaker at the event stressed the importance of meeting people away from dating apps.
“The last thing that we need is to take away the face-to-face interaction of coming out in the sunshine like we’re all doing today and meeting each other in real life,” they said. “That’s like a lifeline for some people. It’s important. We need that.”
‘This is my culture’
The event was planned by the activist group ACT UP London and This Is My Culture, a collective best known for the eponymous party they throw on the heath each year to mark the birthday of George Michael, its most famous cruiser.
The group takes its name from an encounter Michael had with a News of the World photographer while out walking the park. “Are you gay”, Michael recounted asking the paparazzo in 2007. “No? Then f--- off – this is my culture!”
The row has divided the public. One person said on a forum that the practice was no longer relevant. “I understood the necessity before the internet; casual sex was incredibly difficult for gay men but what’s left now are basically just voyeurs and exhibitionists,” they wrote.
Another suggested making designated zones official in London’s largest parks such as by fencing areas off and calling them a “nudist zone.”
Oops. Ninja'd! Sorry about that. That said, posting this article may have inadvertently led us to a new cow. After realising that 'Lola Pony', the esteemed performance trash artivist and music alchemist mentioned in the above article, just hsd to be, at the very least, a Brony, I decided to look into them....
Mods: I know this is technically off topic, but am only posting this here because it relates to the news article I previously posted. I will probably crosspost this into the Tranny Sideshow thread.
