ISSEY MIYAKE and Apple today unveiled iPhone Pocket. Inspired by the concept of “a piece of cloth,” its singular 3D-knitted construction is designed to fit any iPhone as well as all pocketable items. Beginning Friday, November 14, it will be available at select Apple Store locations and on apple.com in France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the U.S.

iPhone Pocket features a ribbed open structure with the qualities of the original pleats by ISSEY MIYAKE. Born from the idea of creating an additional pocket, its understated design fully encloses iPhone, expanding to fit more of a user’s everyday items. When stretched, the open textile subtly reveals its contents and allows users to peek at their iPhone display. iPhone Pocket can be worn in a variety of ways — handheld, tied onto bags, or worn directly on the body. Featuring a playful color palette, the short strap design is available in eight colors, and the long strap design in three colors.

“The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use,” shared Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way.’ The simplicity of its design echoes what we practice at ISSEY MIYAKE — the idea of leaving things less defined to allow for possibilities and personal interpretation.”

“Apple and ISSEY MIYAKE share a design approach that celebrates craftsmanship, simplicity, and delight,” said Molly Anderson, Apple’s vice president of Industrial Design. “This clever extra pocket exemplifies those ideas and is a natural accompaniment to our products. The color palette of iPhone Pocket was intentionally designed to mix and match with all our iPhone models and colors — allowing users to create their own personalized combination. Its recognizable silhouette offers a beautiful new way to carry your iPhone, AirPods, and favorite everyday items.”

A Piece of Cloth

Crafted in Japan, iPhone Pocket features a singular 3D-knitted construction that is the result of research and development carried out at ISSEY MIYAKE. The design drew inspiration from the concept of “a piece of cloth” and reinterpreted the everyday utility of the brand’s iconic pleated clothing. The development and design of iPhone Pocket unfolded in close collaboration with the Apple Design Studio, which provided insight into design and production throughout.

Availability

iPhone Pocket is a special-edition release. The short strap design is available in lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black; the long strap design is available in sapphire, cinnamon, and black. iPhone Pocket in the short strap design retails at $149.95 (U.S.), and the long strap design at $229.95 (U.S.).
Customers can purchase iPhone Pocket beginning Friday, November 14, at select Apple Store locations and apple.com in France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the U.S. Just in time for the holidays, Apple Specialists in stores and online can help customers mix and match different lengths and colors with their iPhone, style iPhone Pocket, and purchase their new favorite accessory.

As opposed to what? What do I need my phone to do that it doesn't currently do? What form factor would be superior for how phones are carried and used?

I don't understand the desire for "different" when "different" is self-evidently worse. The monolithic glass slab concept became universal for very good reasons.

I get the impression that people who pine for the wacky, novel 2008 smartphone market didn't actually own and use those pieces of shit.
The lack of options is a tell-tale symptom of industrial monopoly and enshittification. Having a diversity of form factors, features and operating systems means that if one or two phone makers remove a beloved feature or force a hated one there’s another option the market can turn to.

To illustrate my point with an absurd hypothetical, if both apple and google decide they’re going to eliminate every way to unlock a phone except for scanning your asshole with the camera, they can very easily force the entire world to use it because there are no alternatives. If there’s two other companies that say “it’s ok, our phones will continue to use thumbprint scanners and passcodes, you don’t have to give us a picture of your bunghole,” google and apple would probably be forced to scrap the asshole scanner before it even makes it to market, at least if they wanted to stay in business. Unfortunately those companies don’t exist, so apple and google would be able to get away with it.

No competition phone market means the apple/google cartel can do whatever they want, which almost always to the detriment of th paying customer.

In reality I’m salty about the fact that apple ditched the thumbprint scanners on phones despite still producing the one on iPads. The android scanners never worked as well.

Genius business decision from Apple, make it so that their retard consoomer will get their phone robbed by the aggressive city folk they like to surround themselves with, and they had to pay $150 for the privilege! Then they'll have no choice but to buy another phone for over a thousand dollars! This is the ultimate predatory practice upon retarded consoomers, outright encouraging them to get attacked and robbed by brown people (Who love apple products as they are Niggercattle Prime) so they have to buy more Apple Product!

Apple users get what they fucking deserve.

Why is East Asian fashion so fucking gay. That nonsense makes designer purses look downright functional.
It doesn't even show the phone to let you show off that you have the latest, horribly overpriced, model. It's just an awkward-looking sock hanging at your side.

I hope these sell gangbusters because the gangs will be stealing these easy-to-swipe goody bags with ease.

Why would I waste $150 on a cell phone purse when every pair of pants I own come with pockets built into them?

Issey Miyake should stick to making cologne.

Wccftech: Is Apple’s iPhone Pocket The New Labubu? (archive)

Rohail Saleem • Nov 13, 2025

Collectables like Labubu either evoke subliminal emotions or serve as fashion statements. It is for this reason that some collectables sell extraordinarily well. They do not connect with the rational side of the mind, and so there is no logic-based filter to the consumers' purchase decisions. As such, Apple's new iPhone Pocket has all the hallmarks of becoming the new Labubu.

Labubu, you say?

Labubu-1-728x484.jpg

Labubu is a female-gendered, collectible stuffed toy, which was originally conceived by the artist Kasing Lung in his "The Monsters" series, and manufactured by the company Pop Mart.

Labubu became a sensation after BLACKPINK's Lisa professed her love for the collectible stuffed toy, with demand exploding almost overnight. In fact, Pop Mart's "The Monsters" series of collectables has become its most lucrative franchise, generating nearly half a billion dollars in sales last year alone.

ISSEY MIYAKI's $230 Apple iPhone Pocket

ISSEY MIYAKE's iPhone Pocket is the latest accessory from Apple. Think of it as a fabric-based satchel of sorts for your iPhone.

The iPhone Pocket has understandably proved to be quite divisive, with some panning Apple for launching a $230 glorified sock, while others flocking to the Apple Store to get their hands on the newest Apple accessory.

So, why do I say that the iPhone Pocket might become the new Labubu? Well, just like the popular stuffed toy, Apple's iPhone Pocket is intended to serve as a fashion statement, a proclamation of sorts that you belong to the cool, trendy Gen-Z clique.

Those buying the iPhone Pocket are not doing so because the accessory is functional, or because its fabric feels soft to the touch. Instead, they are doing so because of the supposed "cool factor." In this way, the iPhone Pocket and Labubu are quite similar, for the underlying buying decisions for both are not based on economics or any rational thought. Rather, both evoke emotional undertones, which are often much more powerful drivers of impulsive buying.

All that Apple's iPhone Pocket needs now to become a sensation is an endorsement from an A-list celebrity. Taylor Swift, perhaps? After all, stranger things have happened before.
