Does anyone remember that PS1 LCD screen Sony made years and years ago? The idea was that you could theoretically bring the console anywhere so long as you had a power outlet to plug in to.

If they're going to do this, I want them to resurrect that idea, because that is still one of the coolest ideas ever and it's sad we barely see that anymore outside of Nintendo. The idea of a portable PS1 that isn't quite a handheld? That's still cool. It may not be as convenient as a PSP or a laptop, but the idea still kicks ass.

I was pretty upset when I saw that there was no AC adapter, because I didn't think any company would be as stupid as Nintendo when they purposefully didn't include an AC adapter with the new 3DS. But someone pointed out to me that the PS1 Classic is probably gonna run off of USB, which is odd but somehow works.

Aren't most old games already available on their respective current gen consoles or is that just Playstation? (Considering the control design has basically remained the same). I just get the feeling that these things are marketed to gen Xers that want nerd cred decor.

Tbh, I'd only be interested in this thing if they either pull a SNES classic and include something either rare or previously unreleased, like Tron Bonne or Thrill Kill or if they manage to one-up Ninty by actually allowing this fucker to eventually go down in price at some point

I would buy this thing for The Misadventures of Tron Bonne alone. (Last I checked it still doesn't emulate right.)

Otherwise, I'll pass. Unless they do something cool and translate Japanese stuff that never got a Western release, like Moon: RPG. Or if they included cool shit like all the King's Field games (plus Shadow Tower).

Wild Arms? They know how to market to me.

Shame I still have a Ps1/2.

I already have a PS1 with a few games for it, so I will pass on this.

When it comes to games, there's 3 questions, what they will put on, what they should put on, and what I'd like on it.

What they will put on.
Basically all the top sellers that they can get the rights to. I'm expecting Medal of Honor, Crash Bandicoot, stuff like that.

What they should put on.
Others have already said. But there should be a mix of nostalgic classics, rare games, and underrated gems. Possibly some unreleased games. Parasite Eve 1 never got a UK release, and they have Square Enix games on there so it's possible.

What I'd like to see.
I could list my favourites, but I own most of those and have a PS3 I can play them on. Stuff like Front Mission 3, Parasite Eve 2, and the Resident Evil games.

What we won't see.
There's going to be no Metal Gear Solid because Konami are dickheads and Sony would have announced it if they had it. Same goes for Silent Hill. I guess that game is difficult to emulate because it often doesn't work right on PS3. We won't see any of the Fox movie games like Die Hard Trilogy, Alien Trilogy, and Alien Resurrection because the licences probably ran out long ago.

To me, it would have to have a selection of games that haven't been recently ported or upgraded to have any value. Crash, Spyro and the Resident Evil games have just been released in HD, so the inclusion of inferior versions of those games would be practically worthless. Castlevania: SotN has never been unavailable, nor has Final Fantasy VII, so, again, those two don't bring any value in my opinion. My interest would be in lesser known games and forgotten gems: Ace Combat, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, Bushido Blade, Tron Bonne, Tobal, Um Jammer Lammy, Einhander, Lemmings 3d, Space Battleship Yamato, Bust a Move 2 (the puzzle game), Tomba and Vagrant Story.

If Sony want me to get this they need to pull some Star Fox 2 SNES mini type surprise out, or have a few unlocalised games localised like Moon: Remix RPG Adventure or Tobal 2

Tobal 2 is a ridiculous game (basically a 3d MUGEN) and I'd love if more people got the chance to play it.

$100 for a 20-year-old console, that’s preloaded with 20 games? Yeah, that’s a rip-off, considering that I can either find my old PS1; or go to a local thrift store, buy a PS1 for $40, and buy any game that’s between $5-$10.

It’s nifty and all, but why spend all that money for a novelty item? I’d rather have the original, because I can at least play my games and any other game for the PS1.

They sell tho... You think Chris came up with selling empty fanta cans on his own... no he was told by his market they wanted his trash... and he got paid. Just cuz your product is stupid doesn't mean people won't buy it.

Funny you mention it. The only people i've met IRL who have bought these are wives of dudes who have childhood nostalgia mancave basements. So I guess it's a no brainer gift.
I will say that
I like the concept of retro consoles, especially when made by the original console manufacturer, for the experience of playing old videogames on a device that feels more authentic than playing games via PC emulator, plus the simplicity factor of being able to play games right out of the box.

The fatal flaw for me is that most of these first party retro consoles don't let me play the copies of games I own on physical media for the original version of the console. I think my 21-year old Playstation I got in 1997 still works but I can envision a point in the not-too-distant future when it won't and it would be nice to have a retro console that could play the original disks as a backup. But that's not this Playstation Classic, unless it lets me hook up an external optical drive via USB.
At least with the Nintendo ones you’re getting stuff that’s hard to find if you like having something physical. The only major thing missing from the SNES Classic was Chrono Trigger, and a lot of other things in it rarely go for under 60 bucks. A proper SNES alone was worth 80 the last time I checked at a local store. What ps1 games could they put on here that aren’t common as fuck in the wild? Every store has copies of FF7. Tekken 3 is the best selling fighting game of all time if you exclude th dozen SF2 rereleases. The Legacy of Kain games are pretty easy to find. Spyro is pretty easy to find. Crash is easy to find and just had a full HD release. I’ve had remarkable trouble finding a physical copy of SotN, but that’s probably just me being very unlucky. That’s not even talking about the fact that they’re packing in stickless controllers, which badly limits playability for a lot of games they could have put on it otherwise. I don’t regret my SNES classic, but this is far more suspect.
