Cool Boarders was tits but it probably really sucks now. I have pretty fond memories of destruction derby so that's a neat idea.

This selection is disappointing. There's a few decent games on there. The rest is stuff I've either never heard of or could have been swapped out for much more significant titles. Really, no Symphony of the Night? No Tomb Raider? No Resident Evil 2? No Xenogears? Crash Bandicoot was the PlayStation's fucking mascot and that one isn't even on here.

I hate to keep drawing comparisons to Nintendo, but what works about their minis is a carefully curated selection. The games don't just follow a wide range of plays but happen to be most memorable games on the systems, in addition to titles that aren't cheap in their physical forms. Here it's like Sony just threw whatever at the thing and called it a day.

This would have been my list (based on my personal preferences but also popularity and demand):

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Crash Bandicoot
Darkstalkers III
Dead or Alive
Driver
Final Fantasy VII
Gran Turismo
Jet Moto
Metal Gear Solid
Parasite Eve
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Silent Hill
Spyro the Dragon
Tekken III
Tomb Raider
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Twisted Metal
Wild Arms
Xenogears

The Namco Museum collections would have also been a nice touch.

Keep shooting yourselves in the feet, Sony. Those bullets are gonna shine like rhinestones.

They expect people to play MGS and Syphon Filter without a DualShock? Nigger please.
Syphon Filter 1 predates the Dual shock. The game's unplayable these days.

This is such a dumb product. If Sony had a brain among them, the 'PS1 Classic' would have been software for the PS4 that included the licensing fees to enable standard CD support, and a PS1 emulator. Then it wouldn't matter if the selection sucked.

Nope, the DS was released in the US in 1998. SF came out in February '99, and does have DS support.
Ah, you're totally right. It does support the dual shock - It does not support dual-analog aiming, which is what stuck in my head.

How the Japanese buyers of this thing probably feel as we cry about getting Cool Boarding and the shitty 90s translation of Persona 1, while they get fucking Armored Core and Parasite Eve

That's missing the point.

Sony is not releasing this so you can play your PS1 games; Sony is releasing this shit because Nintendo proved you can fleece nostalgiatards out of their money by selling them an overpriced and neutered smart tv box packed with legal roms + controller when they made mad cash with the NES and SNES mini.

There are some decent choices in there, like Rayman, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid and Twisted Metal, but there's still a ton of shit missing. I get no Crash or Spyro, since the people in charge of those franchises just remade those games and don't wanna let Sony use them, but where's Parappa? Konami let you guys use Metal Gear Solid, but they didn't let you use Silent Hill or SoTN?
Even some of the choices are bizarre. Why Pocket Fighter of all the capcom fighting games you could've picked? Why not Street Fighter Alpha or Darkstalkers? Hell, why not Jojo's? People are more hyped about Jojo's than ever before, it's practically a household name in America.
It's definitely not worth the price tag imo

You gotta give Ninty this though, they actually had a decent library in both Asia and the West on their mini consoles. This thing gives a shitload of classics to Japan, meanwhile the West isn't even getting classics like Tomb Raider or Megaman Legends

That's because Nintendo owns most of the software on their mini consoles. But yeah, they get some points for Star Fox 2 and the stuff they did license.

It's not a fighting game. Super Puzzle Fighter II is a competitive puzzle (like PuyoPuyo/Robotnik's mean bean machine/Pokemon Puzzle League), the game you're thinking of is Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix.

But SE, Konami, and Capcom all pitched in with 3rd party for this thing. Even if you removed SOTN due to Castlevania Requiem or Megmans 8, X4, and X5 due to them getting put in compilations earlier this year, you'd still have these games and much more:

Konami: Vandal Hearts, Suikoden, and Castlevania Chronicles (PS1 reimagining of the original NES game)
Capcom: Megaman Legends, Strider 2, and Breath of Fire 3
Square Enix: Gex 3, Dragon Quest 7, and Soul Reaver

This thing could have added hours to it's replay value had they included at least one of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games.... although I guess since those games had killer soundtracks, licensing would have been a bitch to obtain.

THPS is another one of those games that you really need a DualShock to enjoy properly. I say this from experience because when my DS broke back in the day, playing THPS with the standard controller sucked until I got a DS replacement.

This could've been avoided weren't Sony such retards.

I guess I can understand Tomb Raider not being there. I mean imagine the headache of SCEA trying to reconcile those terrible sexy tits with their new "policy."

The problem with Tomb Raider is that the first game hasn't aged very well in terms of gameplay and while the controls (and, for that matter, Lara's character model) had drastically improved by what I think is probably the peak of Playstation Tomb Raiders, The Last Revelation, that one really needs the Dual Shock sticks to be enjoyable.

I really don't see the point of shelling out a Benny for this thing. If you own a PS3/4 (heck even a vita or psp) you can sign into the PSN and buy these titles a la carte for like >$5 in many cases, and certainly during sales. Given that controllers are so similar, you're really not missing out on much of the classic experience anyway.
