i dont know what sony is thinking you could just simply buy a Odroid that has enough power to emulate PSX and other consoles and is still more cheaper that buying the PS mini that is surely going to be pray of the scalpers like always

That's missing the point.

Sony is not releasing this so you can play your PS1 games; Sony is releasing this shit because Nintendo proved you can fleece nostalgiatards out of their money by selling them an overpriced and neutered smart tv box packed with legal roms + controller when they made mad cash with the NES and SNES mini.
And they fucked it up because in spite of nostalgiatards like me having a preference for at least semi-physical media, their selection for the products is shit. A real SNES went for the same price as the SNES classic, and that isn’t even counting on some of the games in that package being rare and expensive. The PS1 Classic not only doesn’t have much in the way of rare shit, but seems to be lacking games you’d expect like SotN or Gran Turismo. The only major omission from Nintendo’s offering was Chrono Trigger, and for all we know that could be on Square Enix’s end.

As much as it is nice for the everyman who wants a simple PS1 experience, I will stick with my modded PS1 or use the money for the PS classic for a PSIO if the laser dies.

I'm often curious about carts like that (always wanted a DS flashcard reader) but I never actually bought one. When I would finally get around to it they were always out of stock and hard to find elsewhere. Hopefully they bring those out for the Saturn or Dreamcast. How is it working out for you? Do you have a hard drive full of games, or do you only have a few favourites?

Could you? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious.

I remember hearing about people using Raspberry Pi's as retro game consoles back when those were a fad. But I've heard of people with desktops and laptops who still struggle to get any kind of 3D console to be playable, let alone with any degree of accuracy. So I find it hard to believe that these kind of <$100 mini computers would be up to the task.

Those flash carts are pretty sweet as you can use your controllers and accessories on a the real hardware, something you miss out on emulators. NES, Turbo 16 and Genesis Everdrive carts is pretty great but the SNES is a pain as many carts had special chips to have the game run so you have to pay more for compatibility. The CD based SD carts are pretty expensive and hard to find since they are made in limited batches and I have yet to get one but might one day if the laser fails. I usually get a full rom set on the flash carts since its easier to download all and have it fit in a SD card.

The only PCs that will struggle with emulating the PlayStation are ancient machines from a bygone era. Or a prebuilt dell you got from wal-mart years ago.

The reason some consoles are difficult to emulate is due to the architecture of the console in question. N64 was rough but has improved dramatically, Saturn emulation is still crappy while Dreamcast emulation is much better, PlayStation 2 is chugging right along and modern CPUs and overclocked ivy bridges can handle it with no problems, and so on.

Those raspberry mini-computers are really only good for cartridge emulation and will have serious issues with N64. Or they used to, I’m not really interested in them so haven’t kept up with development. If you want a rig that can easily emulate whatever you throw at it, you’ll “probably” need to spend more than 100 bucks.

A DS flash card will run you about 45 bucks including shipping (always pay for the most expensive shipping option so the chinks know you mean business with your big western wang), there’s no reason not to get one. R4i Gold Plus is the standard in current year now that flash cards aren’t really needed for anything except an easy way to play DS games on your 3DS.

Used to, to the point that they even made cases for it and apparently the most recent model can even emulate Wii at 60 fps

Also the Switch hackers scene confirmed that is possible to overclock the system so you can emulate PSX on it too

Damn, Yoshi came from behind. Pissed off that one chinaman pretty bad, good on him.

Rainbow Six baffles me. I don't remember the PS version of that being particularly good what with how it's an FPS game that you control with a goddamn D-Pad.

They could've easily put a couple of sequels in that would've been better recognized and/or were better games overall though, like Twisted Metal 2 (the one everyone actually remembers and likes) over the first, and Resident Evil 2 or 3 since RE1 already has the remake. Also Persona 1? The original localized version? Really?

Reminder that the original English version tried to westernize names and characters, and went as far as to turn a Japanese kid black. There's also some cut content but that's for another thread.

It's getting there. I haven't checked on it in a while, but CEN64 was making waves for being a cycle accurate emulator. The practical upshot was no plug ins or compatibility problems. I think once it's finished, it will be great.

Not after "anything you can throw at it", but I thought that PS1 wouldn't run well. I guess I was wrong. Honestly, I didn't expect that they could emulate the Wii well enough to be playable. I don't know if says more about the emulators or the hardware.

Not to be outdone, Sega just announced that the Sega Saturn Classic is out today at select retailers, but it's $100 more and only has five games.

Yeah, well at least that's still cheaper than actually buying those five games and the console.

Edit: Actually, even if it only had five games on it, if Panzer Dragoon Saga was one of them, then you know people would actually buy the thing.

A dumb faggot like me can dream...

It would be made by Atgames.

Just dig out an old shitty computer and slap PCSX on it for free this is ridiculous

Yeah, the most funny thing is that this pretty much make hacking it pointless because the thing load games without having to do anything, is right there in the menu "Load cd images"

Btw only specific keyboards work with the playstation classic so you have to check first

Edit: apparently Logitech and Corsairs keyboard always works
