Sad part is, I'm probably buying the Playstation Classic anyway.

It's cheaper than getting a new PS4 at the moment (my old one got stolen) and I need to save up money for an emergency fund that I am building.

So I'd honestly rather spend $100 on this to tide me over until I have more disposable income, than spend $300 on a PS4 and not have more money in my emergency fund.

you're better off emulating ps1 games

Get a SNES classic, at least then you'd be getting decent games like Super Mario RPG, Castlevania or DK Country and it's $20 cheaper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0721GGGS9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_R851Bb61AH2SX

With all this talk of mini retro consoles, I’ve decided to build a dedicated emulation/entertainment PC. Not a raspberry piece of shit, but a PC.

Any idea on how cheap I can go? I would like to future proof a little bit and go micro instead of mini if I decide to add a GPU later. TV I’ll be using is a 49 inch 4K, if that means anything. I’ll use what I build to play various media and emulated games. Want to get this as small as possible, I’ll edit this post after I find my tape measure and see how much space I have.

Edit: 15” x 14” that should be plenty of space. Height isn’t an issue.

raspberry pi hurrdurr

Jokes aside, if you're into retrogaming even a cheap android tv box can handle PS1 emulation (epsxe). For 100 dollars you could get a decent smart tv box (maybe even throw a gamepad without going over budget) which wouldn't just play 20 games but like 98% of the PS1 catalogue + other consoles, plus you could easily watch animu, porn and inforwars on it.

Only 20 games? Lame... but at least they have a decent excuse, some of the games on Playstation were pretty bulky for the time. Final Fantasy VII alone was about a gig. At least it's better than 30 NES games which comes up to less than 30 megabytes.

As to what games I would want on it, I'm gonna say Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil (Maybe 2&3 as well. Fuck, count it as one game and call it "Resident Evil: Classic Trilogy), Legacy of Kain; Soul Reaver, Final Fantasy Tactics and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 would be on my wishlist.

At this point, if you want this thing to be halfway decent, emulation is the way to go. Sony is already selling you an emulator with a torrent of ripped ISOs and a front-end for $100.

Make a list of your 20+ preferred PlayStation Classic picks. Download them. Download and configure epsxe. If you want to use DualShock you can buy a USB adapter with a PS controller port. Find a front-end. Dump it all on a laptop. Plug the laptop into a TV via HDMI. Bam. Your own DIY improved, PlayStation Classic, merry early Christmas. It's also portable. Maybe you can even pay a craftsman to build a PSX shell around a flash drive or something.

If you feel a moral conundrum rising within you, remember that Sony's entire business model is based on them thinking you are an idiot. You are not an idiot.

Regarding the 2d fighters even if Alpha 3 and Darkstalkers 3 managed to reach "not as bad as most PS1 2d fighters" (as did KoF 99) I still wouldn't want to call attention to the idea of 2d fighting on the PS1 if I were Sony.

3D fighters were legit, though. Tobal no 1 was a classic.

It's not a fighting game. Super Puzzle Fighter II is a competitive puzzle (like PuyoPuyo/Robotnik's mean bean machine/Pokemon Puzzle League), the game you're thinking of is Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix.

Yeah, I was thinking of Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, or Pocket Fighter. Damnt.

As long as they don't port X-Men Vs Street Fighter or that fucking Neo Geo port of Street Fighter, everything should be fine. This system's prolly gonna be picked up by the "if it's not Shaq Fu it's good" casual crowd, not competitive players.

Yeah, well at least that's still cheaper than actually buying those five games and the console.

Edit: Actually, even if it only had five games on it, if Panzer Dragoon Saga was one of them, then you know people would actually buy the thing.

A dumb faggot like me can dream...
Maybe they'll get off their asses and finally release the other two parts of Shining Force III, or at least stop being fucking fascists blocking anyone who shows them on youtube.

Autism is strong with Sony, at least we now know that N64/Gameboy Classic edition will have zero competition in the west

>(A listing of licenses for open-source software accessible in the PlayStation Classic’s menu said that it uses the open-source PlayStation emulator PCSX ReARMed.)
>Oddly, many of the games on the PlayStation Classic were the European versions.
