Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus Trailer Released

I know this is going to be shit by how many times I could see "phase 2" flashing about... basically it's just going to be a sorry rehash of every tired, long dead Invader Zim meme/trope repeated ad naseum in a desperate attempt to milk a cash cow that's long been dead and buried. I wouldn't expect anything new or interesting out of this. It's gonna be like a reheated microwave TV dinner... one of those real cheap ones.

Any word on writers? I recall Frank Conniff contributed to the old series some.

Reactions: Uncanny Valley

Didn't realize this thread was dead, but necroing it because new info has surfaced after SDCC 2019.
Obviously the original voice cast and staff is back to work on this, but judging by what they've teased so far, it looks like it's going to be an adaptation of the Invader Zim comics in some capacity. I say this because the entire plot of this, as well as the shot of him in the toilet.

Fun fact for anyone who's not read the Zim comics:. Dib confronts Zim early on after not seeing him for the past 13 years asking where he'd been all that time. As it turns out, Zim was...literally just doing nothing but laughing in that toilet.

We also have a release date: August 16th. And just like Rocko, it's getting moved to be exclusively on Netflix rather than aired on the main network.

The Hey Arnold! revival movie performed under Nickelodeon’s expectations, drawing more adult viewers than kids (which I don’t see how Nick thought that would turn out any other way), so they sold Rocko and Zim to Netflix. Both of these have been completed for more than a year, and Nick was sitting on them.

All the more proof that Nickelodeon (or whoever's running it now) really doesn't care about the periphery demographic despite popular demand/reception.

The most obvious thing would be for Nickelodeon to make their own equivalent to Adult Swim to bring these old shows back for.

Now, they don't even have to always get adult per se, we don't want a repeat of the Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon fiasco, just made under the assumption that adults will be the primary audience.

Although some shows, like Zim and Rocko, would lend themselves to adult versions, if Gen X got shows like Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, why can't us Millennials get the same?

It's sad that the whole idea of Nick revivals seem to be flaming out, but hey, these movies are something at least and more than I ever really expected to happen.

It looks like they're doing a mix between the comics and unaired episodes (there was a shot of the Control Brains in the last trailer from the cut episode where Zim got put on an Irken trial).

Never read the comics, were they any good?

They do have that, on TeenNick: it was originally called The 90's Are All That (named after, obviously, All That), then it was rebranded to The Splat (using the old Nickelodeon Splat iconography and old bumpers), then to NickSplat (where it was a mix of Nickelodeon's new logo/iconography with the old), and now it fully got shlepped in with new iconography/bumpers where it's now rebranded, for a fourth time, to NickRewind.

It originally rebranded to NickRewind to be a second Boomerang, after their first attempt with Nicktoons Network went belly up, where they'd play other shows outside of the 90's...before they downsized back to 90's shows on July 15 of this year, and effectively killed off most of the block, by pushed it and AwesomenessTV to air in the early morning.

They’re really good. They keep the spirit of the show and it helps that Jhonen is involved. I still need to catch up on them but for the most part they toned down a lot of the more annoying aspects of the cartoon that didn’t age well. They also get away with a lot more stuff. As I said in the Rocko thread there are several issues that make the Dark Harvest episode look tame.

The only downside is that the guest artists can be hit or miss. While most of them are good you will get the occasional artist with the over the top CalArts style. Thankfully I haven’t encountered any “woke” shit.

Nick does have an "Adult Swim" like thing for the 90's nicktoons though. Although it's only on Teenick as "The 90's were All That" block that's basically Nick at nite for 90's kids.

The new art for the comics seems a lot more refined. I know that some people have nostalgia for the grungier look from the cartoon but I swear some of that was due to budget.
Some edge lords apparently don’t like the fact that Vasquez smoothed over some of those rougher edges, plot wise.
I don’t know if Vasquez made a shit ton of money with Zim but he did not do anything at all for a good long while after the show ended.
I don’t know if it was creator fatigue or the stress of working on an animated show.

I’m glad to see that he’s been working again and something of his that ended so abruptly. The pimply fat Dib seems like a eff you to all the horrid Zim x Dib shippers.

He probably made some decent money from the DVD and merch sales from the show. Probably not millions of dollars because creators always get fucked over by the studios in some way. But enough to live comfortably and not have to worry about making ends meet? Yeah.

I haven't read most of the issues either, but the most surreal guest artist was the one that drew in a style very similar to Superjail. Visually it wouldn't have been out of place for Jailbot to swoop down and haul Zim to face off against The Warden.

I know this is a double-post, but I've come across relevant info:

FYI, d'Abo was Tak's VA so she'd know if only from the showrunners contacting her. So we have one example of non-comic content in IZ 2019 (Tak didn't show up in the comics as far as I know).

Eeeeeeeh, technically Tak did show up in the first issue, but it wasn't really her. Rather a ship's computer that had her thoughts, feelings, voice, and personality programmed into it. So it wasn't Tak herself, but it was basically Tak.

Ah ha...Ah ha ha ha. HA.

Granted it's rarely there, and when it is it's usually in the guest comics, but it's there if you know where to look.

Aside from that the comic's pretty good.
