’Ironheart’s Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Hits 32% Thanks To Review Bombing Hours Before It Premieres

Marvel’s long-awaited Ironheart series hasn’t even dropped its first three episodes on Disney+ yet, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from lighting the match. In a move that’s becoming depressingly familiar to everybody involved, Ironheart is already being review-bombed on Rotten Tomatoes, with early signs pointing to another manufactured backlash fueled by racism and anti-diversity sentiment rather than actual criticism of the content. The show officially launches with a three-episode premiere on June 24, but as of now, some corners of the internet are trying to make sure it doesn’t get off the ground.

A visit to the site shows Ironheart sitting at a 32% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes — a head-scratching number considering that general audiences haven’t even seen the series yet. Currently, only press members have been granted early access to the show for coverage purposes, meaning these “audience” scores aren’t coming from actual viewers. It’s classic review bombing behavior, a pattern that has haunted Marvel projects like Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Captain Marvel, all of which were similarly attacked online before (or immediately upon) release due to their focus on... well, what you would expect internet trolls to complain about.

Last month, we reported that, at the time, the official teaser had over 317,000 dislikes on YouTube compared to just 178,000 likes, despite racking up nearly 7 million views. That’s roughly 64% negative feedback, which mirrors what happened with Ms. Marvel and The Little Mermaid — both of which went on to become success stories for Disney+, despite the pre-release hate.

What Is 'Ironheart' Actually About?

Oh yes, of course, there is actually a show that people have yet to watch. Set after the events of Wakanda Forever, Ironheart follows Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) as she returns to MIT to perfect the most advanced Iron suit ever built — one made entirely on her own. But as Riri’s tech gets more advanced, it also attracts the attention of dark forces, including The Hood (played by Anthony Ramos), a villain who blends magic and vengeance with deadly consequences. The show will bring us a major clash between science and sorcery, with Chinaka Hodge at the helm and a supporting cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, Manny Montana, and Regan Aliyah.

Ironheart premieres with three episodes on Disney+ today, followed by weekly releases. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This series was filmed back in 2022 and they have been sitting on it forever not releasing it. Its going out now because Disney is trying to clear things out of the pipeline in anticipation of some sort of broad reset to the marvel stuff.
At that time? Even a sociopathic Black girl who steals superpower-enabling gadgetry and complains she isn't oppressed enough was too far a reach for them.

They probably hoped things would "improve" socially so that it'd be a safer bet, but, now they probably are just biting the bullet and chucking it out there. Holding on to it at this point would be just as bad optics as the twisted moral messaging that everyone's upset over (and that's why it got bombed, if you know what happened in the comic? You know what's coming, if not getting even WORSE.

Comic seems pretty funny to me and the show may be the first marvel product I watch if its true to it. I never watched a Marvel movie or any super hero stuff.

But this story seems great and will get me to watch it. Low IQ sassy black women is arrogant and cocky and becomes a villain stealing shit. Originate story is pretty spot on, are we sure this is not some kind of secret parody? Even has Nigger fatigue. Teachers and students have to pretend to be nice and put up with her disruptive behavour stealing class-time while preventing everyone around her from getting a proper education.

You mean:
  • Riri stealing to make the suit
  • Riri taking over for dead AI Iron Man
  • Riri being guilted into a gay relationship
  • Riri taking over a country
  • Riri cloning her dead friend into an AI
Or something else?

Keep in mind I've not even read the comics. This is all shit I've heard from other people.

The big mistake here was thinking that they couldn’t coexist as super geniuses and that the insanely popular character that kicked off the MCU needed to be humbled by Black Girl Magic in order for her to succeed.
Most media now is like this and it sucks that it sucks because the concept of "the character, but kid/woman/their child" has existed since ever in comics and cartoons. Batgirl, Kid Flash, the Tiny Toons, etc. Even the Pink Panther had kids in a cartoon.

The difference is that these new characters weren't there to insult the original character, but to learn from them and become their own thing or later carry on their own legacy.

Also, Riri was also unpopular in comics. Just like America, Kamala, Thor woman, modern Carol. In fact, most comics are now unpopular because nobody's reading them because they suck.

What about War Machine? If people are shitting on Ironheart due to racial bias against blacks, how is it that War Machine managed to avoid the same level of scrutiny from racists for decades?

Comics Autist here.

It's worse because, before Ironheart was made, we had James Rhodes's niece as a sort of iron man adjacent burgeoning hero. Yeah, War Machine's niece was supposed to become someone. At best she got the spotlight as a lead in a Secret Wars miniseries (non-canon) and has been forgotten about. It's a shame because she was written as a standard spunky and heartfelt tomboy. Meanwhile, Ironheart is very unlikable.

Also, Riri was also unpopular in comics. Just like America, Kamala, Thor woman, modern Carol. In fact, most comics are now unpopular because nobody's reading them because they suck.
America Chavez was a blank slate from some weird miniseries that was turned into a lesbian mary sue when she popped up elsewhere. (Nobody cared and it made her worse).
Jane Foster Thor went on for too long and I suspect Marvel forced that. Modern Carol has been a bit of a mess, but I remember the fucking Civil War II version of her making the most sense, weirdly enough.

Kamala Khan's a mess. She worked in her first run as an awkward nerdy dork trying to be a superhero and navigating life in a muslim community. Then they kinda turned her into more of a mary sue after that run.

Same for many other black characters like Storm, Monica Rambeau, or Blade. People never minded their color. Even when people criticised the change of race for Nick Fury or Kingpin, most normal people shrugged off because the replacements were amazing actors.

Sex crimes, sure. Looting? Not as much. Murder? They’re more likely to be the victim of some down-low gangbanger.
Fags probably commit less sex crime, except for prostitution, on account of being always able to find holes to fuck (apparently fuckees are overrepresented among them). On the other hand, they use and deal drugs (and not just "dude weed"), and where there's drugs, there's always crimes, for-profit and "of passion".

Pump the brakes there, bud. Nobody wanted an Iron heart series. Outside of the few people who saw Black Panther 2, and/or read Nu-Marvel comics, nobody knows that this character even existed. And the people who are aware of Ironheart hate her. She's infuriating because she's treated like a hero when she's clearly a villian.

Ironheart was such a poorly executed character, that her origin is indistinguishable from a parody.
Sort of like Robyn Hood? Director X actually made the antagonist - who, thanks to Disparu, I keep calling Richard Branson - a genuinely good person. That show is so obviously written by a black person who grew up in the suburbs and has this romanticized image of the projects as some kind of ghetto utopia.

No way I'm actually watching Ironheart, but I look forward to the reviews from Disparu, Despot of Antrim, Johnny Law, etc. This is shaping up to be a glorious dumpster fire.
