Overprotecting a child is one of the worst things you can do to them, but it's parent's instinct to do so. People are a product of their environment - and if parents see the world as an evil place, they'll shelter their kids. It's natural.
Blarb is just working on her master's thesis on bad parenting.
Hey just wait until she has a stroke and goes truely mental. The combination of hoard, stroked out senior, and manchild would create something that my pitiful human mind can't imagine. Possibly the dreaded terror lulz.
Are the reins likely to loosen once his probation is up? It would be nice to think so. I feel really sorry for him living 24/7 in the same room as Barb... That and he has little chance of being funny again.

I don't think the probation has much to do with it. They sleep in the old "Music Room" together. That's... that's some other stuff. Bob died. Barb doesn't talk to her other son. Barb has no friends. Barb is lonely. Barb may now realize she will likely die alone. Barb knows how to manipulate Chris. Barb now has a big greasy autistic teddy bear.
I don't think Chris will get his privacy back until Barb is hospitalized/dies or until Chris calls her bluff of kicking him out. It sucks because a small part of me thought that once he got a PS4 he'd feel the need to try out it's EyeToy...

That's just too depressing for words. It's difficult to imagine Chris putting his foot down and demanding his room back. There can't be many "gal-pals" he still listens to and Anna is such a bitch she'd never suggest anything that would seriously improve Chris's life.
For Chris to call her out on it he would have to understand that it is bullshit. He would need to be aware of his financial entitlement and the fact that Barb needs his SSI contribution. He would have to know that he is entitled to his privacy.
Chris is extremely sheltered and has had no specialist schooling in things like critical thinking.

yeah he's pretty effed when she croaks. we may joke like "oh he'll be norman bates" or " hey he'll lure girls into the aerostar so he can make a skin suit out of them" but the future is way bleaker than him becoming a serial killer. he can't do anything on his own and can barely think for himself. and when he does, he's just parroting things he heard his crazy mother say.
She isn't protecting, she's controlling. If Cole's stories of his childhood are true, Chris lives in a weird mind game environment. Mix that with autism...

God damn it, and here I thought Chris was beyond pity. He's done bad things, and it's all his own fault, but the image of him and his mentally disturbed, obese, hoarding mother, living in the same cluttered room, day in and day out, while the world moves by outside...damn it, I just made myself sad.
i think what needs to happen is a male needs to take him away from barb for a couple hours a day and show him some positive aspects of life that she's been preventing him from seeing, as alec said.
that way, his future won't be so bleak when she dies, and he can see that not all males are JERKS and he wouldn't be such a sexist pig. it's win-win.
of course, he'll refuse to go along with it cause, well, he's chris, but i can dream damnit!
Is it possible? I actually feel BAD for Chris. He's stuck in a house with Mommy Dearest, and she's giving him less and less space every day. I know what it's like to have overprotective parents so I sympathize with him in a way. Although he has it much worse, being forced to live in the music room among piles of junk, and wasn't Chris' room the only room that wasn't infested with the bugs that killed Bob? OPL needs to be a FREE BITCH, not be chained to Barb.
You know, I think he'd be more accepting of a group house full of slow-in-the-minds than spooning with mommy.
It's plain and obvious what's happening here. Barb is just about as simple as Chris to figure out and people are giving her a bit too much credit, just like how we know Chris just wants a better mommy that he can fuck.
What Barb wants is her little boy back that she could safely snuggle and coddle and get to do chores for her. Barb's just as unable to let go of the past as Chris and thus is treating a 31 yr old man like he's her living toy.
Barb is hoarding Chris, and there's no deeper subtext to it.

Ya hit the nail on the head, my friend. Chris is going to have a shitty life from here on out. I wouldn't be surprised if his tomgirl adventures came to an end due to this.
No, but he used to take opportunities to sit around and get some time away from 14BC (and loiter) on his errand trips for Barb. Although, his ability to do this now is greatly reduced because he can't even go into Charlottesville proper because Barb won't let him.

Ruckersville is basically, what, a handful of stores along a stretch of highway, and some offshoot roads that lead to houses like his? He can barely even find a place to loiter anymore.
