I think it's about scattering people and turning them inward, seeking pleasure and selfish living rather than strengthening families and communities. The lower birth rates which mean it's harder to provide and care for the old is just a welcome side effect for the Devil and his followers. Ever more division and hatred is what they're after. Even if we were clawing each others eyes out and burning our children alive as offerings to demons it would not be enough hatred for the beast.

Not to mention introduce a healthy dose of fear and loathing toward Nuclear energy; hippies may have doomed us in that regard.

A nice cold snap with a few blackouts would overcome any hippie's fear, when the wood and other fuels become choking smog in the towns and cities they'll be begging for clean burning gas and nuclear for long term power.
