Is it autistic to assume someone is stupid when they have shit tastes in entertainment?

In my personal experience, I've noticed that if a person's taste in entertainment lies solely in mass produced, bland, corporate shit like Family Guy, Big Bang Theory, CoD, ESPN, the Top 40 hits, etc, they tend to be fairly simple people. Not dumb necessarily, just little depth.

I think the thing is that people with pleb taste are too lazy to find things better or even just equally good but less well known. CoD/Harry Potter/sitcoms can be fine and maybe you will find one particular series to enjoy, but if you put any effort into your media consumption you can easily find more obscure stuff that you like too. If you don't bother to do that then you are probably lazy or stupid or both.

It basically comes down to two camps - genuine idiots with shit tastes who may or may not grow out it once their tastes mature, and the other camp which is people who work 8-14 hours a day and don't want to think when they come home, they just want to de-stress. I was like you until I worked as a grease-scrubber six days a week and just needed something light as background noise while I cried in the shower. Or for instance psychiatric nurses off their 14-hour shifts too tired to follow coherent plots or thought-provoking programs and see the laughter cues as a much needed mental break.

It's autistic to assume shit about people based on their tastes, in general. Shit like this is why we have the expression "guilty pleasure" one has to precursor in conversation like a chimplike sign of submission. Judging people for bopping to Miley Cyrus is supreme gentleman as fuck.

As an aside, I can't stand people who listen to trance music.

The idea of people watching MLP, CalArt horse shit, reality TV garbage, late night shows spending all their runtime bashing LE dRumF and whatnot on a daily basis makes me laugh but I don't judge them based on that.
Reason is that I consume tons of anime and mangas that can only be described as garbage myself, so y'know. Maybe I'm :dumb: myself for doing it. Maybe everyone needs some dumb shit or funny garbage in their life (why would the farms exist otherwise?). To each their own. Listen to what people have to say before dismissing them as stupid.

I don't think you're wrong, although you're probably unfairly generalizing a bit.

I also think that anyone who doesn't have at least one guilty pleasure is trying too hard.

I look at it in terms of being able to relate to other people.

If you can't talk to people without mentioning Rainbow Dash, if you can't discuss attractive people in shows you watch without talking about a pink-haired loli magical girl, if you can't talk about current politics without relating everything good to Harry Potter and everything bad to Voldemort... You're pretty fucked up.

If you just *watch* My Little Pony, or... whatever is currently popular in the shit anime market, I don't know... Or just read and enjoy Harry Potter? Good on you. You're using entertainment the way it was meant to be used. Keep doing that. At the end of the day, I would rather have people watching shows I think are awful (Hello, 95% of sitcoms, 100% of reality TV) and managing to be functional members of society, than I would have people consuming a concentrated diet of Kubrick and Orwell and Tennyson.
 
I've always argued that taste is very much a subjective thing. Even if someone was a fan of something that could be considered objectively shite (like Twilight or 50 Shades of Grey), I'd still argue in their defense that they're entitled to that "objectively" wrong opinion, just as long as they don't force it down people's throats and try to shut down anyone who disagrees.

Even I like alot of things that would be considered garbage by many, be it movies, shows or video games. If that makes me of lower intelligence, so be it.
 
Idk i like some things that would be considered trash by others so i cant really judge anyone else for the same thing unless theyre being total spastics about their interests
