This is so weird to me. I can vividly remember when Twitter first came out and I was listening to the radio and the hosts were talking about it and one said something along the line of "So you can only write one sentence? That's dumb".

Facebook, Twitter and Reddit have all been a major plague on the internet but in a way they've also been sort of good containment sites. I'd be curious where the people would flock to if they were eventually shut down.

I don't think twitter is truly going to go away anytime soon.
But if it does its going to be Elon doing more stupid shit and actually killing the platform.

In a-way though; I think twitter dying would be a good thing. Like unironically if people flock more to mastodon and discover more un-centralized un-censorable platforms like it in retrun of it dying I think it would do the internet a great favor in the long run and help us escape from the corporate sfw hellscape we find ourselves in today.

Like God knows we all hate the modern internet at large where like you can't even say bad words without getting delisted from public view or facing consequences.

Maybe in the end people will finally switch to open platforms and mastodon servers that don't give a shit about content moderation where you can actually discuss things like Elon's Jet without getting yeeted off a platform at large.

I personally don't think Twitter will die anytime soon. The main reason for it is the network effect that it has.

I remember on the first week's after Elon bought Twitter a lot of blue checkmark complaining about it and saying that now Twitter is a dying platform but when you asked them to join any alternative, almost all of them create excuses for not joining it. Like how it isn't profitable or if they follow every alternative, they would ended up joining 50+ different networks, which wouldn't be worthy. This creates a very big network effect that makes impossible to any other alternative to grow easily.

The second point is the advertisement. After Elon began to fire almost everyone, you got a lot of engineers(that created the tools) simping for privacy by saying that Twitter tracks everything that you do even with the app closed. This kind of tracking is hard and time/space consuming and because Twitter is one of the biggest social networks, this makes that for advertisers or companies like salesforce to not want to make Twitter fail.

I believe that in the next months, the dust will settle down(like how it happened with all the drama around Tesla, SpaceX and other Musk companies) and people will forget about it and the MSM will stop the crusade against him.

It's better that it continues to exist as a containment website as their users get more and more discredited. They should have never left Tumblr.

I don't think it was ever alive to begin with. It's just plain bizarre how corpos and especially politicians set up shop there out of all places, amongst the sea of bots. In non-clown world a white house blog makes more sense than a white house twitter. Its not because the people that pulled the whole " I will leave America Twitter if Trump Elon Musk is running the show" will do like they always do, that is, nothing at all and continuing complaining while still giving the site revenue.

There is this aspect of necessity for a lot of people for Twitter so the site isnt going away anytime soon

I have a twitter/X and it's gotten more and more retarded over the last ~8 months.

The Grok AI tool is shitting up everything, the amount of bird and paid ads/content masquerading as organic content is skyrocketing and the amount of fucking DISGUSTING anime /furry/Loli degenerates that also larps as Nazis is fucking ANNOYING.

Most of those degenerate accounts are usually less than 3 months old as that's when they get banned for posting porn.

Yes but it's a very very slow death, it's been happening since elon went to Israel and took the adl seriously. No it's not cause of the Jews, it's cause of elon, his content and monetization policies are retarded enough to allow for some of the worst ads and most diluted content I've seen. I don't think it will completely die given there's no good alternative, bluesky is echo chamber central with child porn and everything else is bad, but it will be decommissioned once something remotely better comes around. Now you open a tweet, get 3 onlyfans in the top replies, 5 AI generated pictures, 10 irrelevant comments, and one good reply under all that.
