Is using adblock the same as piracy?

Linus can go fuck himself with a big stick, he's been pumping shit for years and he knows it.

Also while on the subject, has anyone got any info about him trying to suck up to AvE to try and give him a computer or something and then get him to start posting videos to floatplane, I like AvE from a technical POV especially his older videos but I'm not a fan of his newer stuff but he's always been very anti-shill and independent and I respect that.
AvE is definitely wise enough to stay away from the internet at large. Since he goes way out of his way to keep his privacy. I know there's a couple of times that he's turned down opportunities to collaborate with other people just because it was too much exposure.

Here's Linus' response to him pirating OCCT:

LMAO at "Most devs recognize that our use of their software is closer to educational use than it is to commercial use and don't mind us using their software for free if we are demonstrating how to use it and showcasing it to potential customers on the channel". Literally saying that "it's ok for me to steal your software because I pay you in exposure". Also, OCCT is a stability testing/benchmarking tool; they probably used it all the time behind the scenes and making one video about the tool doesn't grant you a license to use it for free whenever you want. I also wonder if the dev didn't really care until Linus went on his holier-than-thou anti-piracy rant and he decided to teach the hypocrite a lesson.

Linus is getting destroyed on Twitter.

With this, Linus has demonstrated that he is indeed a walking, talking bag of shit. Fuck him.

Isn't it still possible to manually re-record it by sending the analog audio to Line In (or maybe another soundcard) and recording the input from it?
I was re-recording audio CDs this way back when home Internet access was still an uncommon thing.

Yep. this is known as the "analog loophole", which various industries have been trying to kill for decades. This is why all current TV's only have HDMI & an f-type coax socket (for cable, that is where the term "Cable Ready" comes from for all the Zoomers, since before that you had 300 Ohm flat leads), using any of the analog outputs would allow you to bypass encryption because you can't really encrypt analog. There was this one thing called "Macrovision" at one point that was meant to stop analog copying to VHS, but it didn't really work well and was meant more to stop major pirates in China (it didn't stop shit).

Dude seriously can't let this go.

Oh that's true but it kinda takes a lot for him to drop a name and I think he did to someone who knows him and one of them was Linus for pissing him off by constantly trying to colab with him (from the rumour I read, I've never spoken to AVE at all) AVE has more technical skills than Linus in a lot of respects and he wouldnt need any help from him at all.

Lol, so it turns out that Linus "Adblock is piracy" Sebastian has been using a free version of OCCT in his videos. The issue is that version is free for non-commercial use only. So by using the free version to rack in additional dollars to his multi-million dollar account he was essentially pirating the software, while at the same time lecturing people that adblock is piracy therefore it's bad and you should feel bad.

And of course a video from our favorite technician from New York:

At this rate we'll need a "Linus Sebastian / Linus Media Group" thread.
Linus has also pirated windows in the past and a ton of other software in the past. But then again almost all companies do some form of piracy in that fashion.

To be fair, I did something similar at work. I used software that had a free version for non-comercial use only because I was in a hurry. To get paid version i would need to write ticket to IT department and then wait for them to process it – during the first covid wave and while more than half of IT was sick at 200 + people company. It took several day during normal times. I agree with Louis about employees doing shit without employers knowledge, but LMG is not that big and it was him working with that software. I try to avoid piracy due to mi line of work, because it would be hypocrytical of me to pirate content while relying on people buying things that I help to make. I always try to donate at least small amount of money to developer of free software that i like to use. On the other hand fuck Adobe, Autodesk and their subscriptions – you pay for the same broken shit every month and they are not able to fix shit that they themselves broke half a year prior.
Same with engienering/design lol. Can't consider yourself one of those if you haven't pirated a cad program atleast a couple of times. Autocad is espically grievous with their verification process any amount of blur and you need to contact IT.
As someone who has defended Linus in the past, Imma gonna ask you for receipts on this one, because if you're telling the truth then that will immediately sway me to the "Linus is a faggot" crowd.
I don't jnow anything about hatespeech comments but he has made some really cucky comments before.

I'll admit, I've had a soft spot for Linus for a long time, as he was one of the few guys who discussed tech that didn't go all Trump Derangement Syndrome back in '16. But if all of that shit happened right now, I'm sure we'd never hear the end of it. He's noticeably going downhill.

Though I did unsub from him a long time ago now, from just getting sick of seeing closeups of his screaming face in almost every thumbnail. I'll still listen to the WAN show occasionally, where he's as mellow as he ever gets, but there's still plenty of goofy random shit to clip throughout.
Linus has had some gold in the past. Secret shopper and scrap yard wars is good, anything with Dennis tends to be hillarious.

Linus simps are starting to infect other YouTuber's videos, such as this one where both Techmoan and Linus were sent some new release earbuds from Sony for review. As this product was under embargo, both review videos dropped within minutes of each other (which is standard for any new product that's sent out for review prior to its on-sale date). I'm not linking the Linus video as I don't want to give y'all AIDS.

TBH I'm beginning to wonder if there's astroturfing involved. Techmoan is pure DadTube, so I find it a bit sus that all these Linus fanboys are in a Techmoan comments feed. Although there seem to be a few people that objectively compared both reviews and expressed a preference for Techmoan's because it was actually critical of the product.

The YouTube algorithm always really liked him, he's been unavoidable when looking up just about anything tech related for a very long time.
Yep. I had to install BlockTube just because YouTube wouldn't stop recommending his fucking videos whilst I was watching other videos, even after I selected "Don't recommend channel" on my YT front page.

I know this isn't exactly blocktube but the freetube app is pretty good for watching youtube content. Since it doesn't log in to youtube you can basically block stuff you don't want to see like recommended videos (It's an all or nothing with this one but linus content thnds to pop up some here & there but not like the first video all the time). Also no ads.

Linus also claims that scoring an Asian wife makes you an alpha. There's a reason why his channel has gone to shit.

I don't get why he didn't already have one.
The real question is how much Linus ends up paying for his slice of "Asian Persuasion." Cause I doubt she was even remotely attracted to him for his good looks or big brain intellect.

This is such a profoundly retarded take.

Linus and Jayz should be lambasted for being so dumb. Jayz is clearly out of touch with the development side of tech and doesn't understand how much free (as in beer) shit he uses daily, even to post that tweet. Linus can paywall anything he wants and then he can complain about piracy but posting it on Youtube means no one is obligated to watch ads or anything.

Linus saying he basically pays for software through exposure really seals the deal as him being an asshole. Passive aggressive tech pricks can't read the scene.
