Is using adblock the same as piracy?

Blocking ads is nothing more than parsing through content fed to you. There's no obligation, moral or otherwise to watch something just because someone wants you to watch it. For the same reason i skip over dumbass two minute long intros and random sperging tangents.

I doubt Linus even really holds that opinion privately, just something you say to help your bottom line. If you build your business model on giving shit away from free, counting on voluntary tips, you can't get pissed when people take you up on that offer. If it bothered him that much he'd put his videos behind a paywall, then if someone ripped them he'd have a point about piracy. This just makes him sound like a disingenuous prick who values money over his own reputation, because this take made him look utterly retarded.

True, he's good people. So is Frank.

I don't even mind that his drum streams are on Floatplane, mainly because I didn't really watch them in the first place (no offense to the bloke, I just kept forgetting they were on). He has no other option ever since Twitch decided to be just as pozzed as YouTube wrt content matching and despite all my kvetching about Linus he's still significantly less bad than Jeff Bezos.
Dank even apologizes for the drum streams being behind a paywall, it's not his intention for it to be this way but he had no other choice. Honestly I feel like an asshole for watching a few patron-only vids of his through kemono.party.

As someone who has defended Linus in the past, Imma gonna ask you for receipts on this one, because if you're telling the truth then that will immediately sway me to the "Linus is a faggot" crowd.
He said it in one of the LANShow podcasts a couple years ago. Can't remember which one and honestly I don't give enough of a toss to go through hundreds of hours of faggy half-asleep Canadian chatter to find and clip one statement.

This. If ad skipping was stealing, not stopping to give that one guy who totally needs money for a bus ticket $10 would be stealing those $10 from him by not even giving him a chance. The logic behind the entire argument is not sound. You put content for free out there - it's free content. You want to be paid for it, you put it behind a paywall. It's that simple.

The bigger problem is that people were raised to wanting everything on the internet for free, even if it literally costs them their dignity and soul. Charging a resonable price for a service online only makes sure nobody uses that service, so the only way to earn money really is like this. I am a pirate by conviction but also don't mind to pay reasonable prices for a good product, even if it's some intangible online account. Sometimes that actually happens but the problem is that companies always either eventually get too greedy and overcharge, do some private data trading shenenigans I'm not ok with, or some super invasive DRM bullshit which costs me electricity and specific hardware to run nobody pays me for and I'm also not ok with. (e.g. Netflix/Amazon/whatever doesn't do hardware decoding acceleration when playing back videos in Linux because of DRM bullshit. This ups the power consumption and hardware requirements. The same stuff off a torrent does just fine.) I'm literally standing here with my wallet and would be willing to pay reasonable prices for reasonable products, but all I see is a sea of greedy fucks and scammers. I'll keep my money then.

Has anyone seen linus give an official response to being a shekel counting hyperfaggot?
Leonard French's video on Linus's shit take shows Linus on the LANshow saying he doesn't mean it literally but at the same time he does but overall Linus is a faggot shill.

Anyway, on an unrelated note, here's a video of Linus showing his audience how to set up a Pihole to block ads. I've always said Linus is a faggot shill whose opinions depend on whether or not he's presently doing a video on what he's talking about (note how his opinions on Android and iOS change depending on what mobile device he's talking about that week - when he';s talking about Android, iOS is literally Satan and vice-versa), and damned if this isn't hard proof of that.

Blocking ads is also a very good way to not actually break your computer or your browser. You can not believe the amount of times I go on some sites and the ads just slow down either to a crawl. Even on more "reputable" sites like YouTube that shit happens.

For fun awhile back, I installed stock Chrome on my phone for the first time in years, went to CNN and then Bloomberg. Within 1 second I am bombarded with autoplaying videos and multiple moving ads, the videos I have to zoom in to find a tiny button to close them out, all the while the volume is blaring. How normies tolerate this I will never understand, the internet doesn't even seem usable without adblock.

It really doesn't, and I don't get why other than "corporate greed"

Of course Current Year clowns could claim blocking obnoxious and intrusive ads is "piracy".

"Intellectual property rights" to me are artificial - they only exist because of law - so if there's no "intellectual property infringement" by blocking ads, no "piracy" takes place because no legal rights were infringed. Anyway, adblock isn't too different from skipping TV ads, or not giving money to one performing at a street corner.

And someone could be crazy not to use an adblocker on the internet of Current Year when they have a choice. YT videos can get up to over 999+ elements blocked.

Linus and his Linux challenge made it abundantly clear that YouTube as a learning platform had been at best a trial and error affair, and at worst a whored out wokeshitfest completely bent over Susan Whatchamacallit's knee -- for a long time now. Seeing this pencil-necked trust fund niggerfaggot bitch about algorithm is supreme, and he's the type to bitch about white privilege.

I think you guys are forgetting that 100% of the content in a l*nus video is an advertisement for whatever chink doodad he was paid to review.
If it's not that then he's shilling some shitty service like tunnelbear or something. It's a wonder how he got some damn popular in the first place, I'm genuinely perplexed.

People seem to equate independence with integrity, one does not mutually guarantee the other.

The people who lap up shit from Austin Evans, Linus, UnboxTherapy do so with the preconceived notion that they hadn't been sold out and won't, based on face value alone. No one ever asks questions before accepting opinions. Simply because they lack a partnership with Engadget or VICE.
