Issues with the modern US South

I'll take the deep south over the elitist pacific northwest any day of the fucking week. The only reason I don't move is that I get paid a ridiculous amount of money relative to the amount of work I do and my expenses are minimal. Not only that I'm hitting journeyman soon which means my pay will fucking skyrocket and I'll be even more well off.

The best part is they don't even follow through on most of that. Like look at the cuckoldry expressed by Asa Hutchinson, the fag in charge of Arkansas, over troons in schools. Despite his allegedly pro-Christian platform, he caved instantly and started sucking tranny cock and vetoed an anti-troon bill once some organization threatened to take away a sports tournament (or something) from Arkansas. Fortunately it seems state legislatures are a little more mixed on the issue (sometimes they've been able to pass anti-troon bills with veto overrides), but they still won't do much against jurisdictions who refuse to enforce the law and praise troons (Democrat cities).

They also don't tell people coal mining is mostly for China's sake. Not much coal mined in the US (and next to none in Appalachia) is legally allowed to be burned in the US. So they're just fucking over their environment (and Appalachia is a beautiful place) to serve the interests of China and big business. In 2019, the CCP ranked numerous Southern governors as friendly to their interests (only DeSantis in FL, Brian Kemp in GA, and Henry McMaster in SC are considered anti-Chinese by the CCP--and Mike Parson in MO if you count Missouri as Southern, incidentally that's 4 out of only 6 "anti-CCP" governors in the whole country so maybe the South is doing something right).

That's super interesting to me. Closest experience with the south is watching King of the Hill. I guess from my prissy lacrosse-playing east coast town I never really believed high school football was truly the be all end all for people still. It always seemed like some plot out of an 80's movie.

Is that really the fucking peak aspiration? Raise a kid who will be a good football player who gets fat/dies of fentanyl/whatever after 18?

Actually, King of the Hill isn't too bad of a portrayal of the mindset and culture, at least if you're wanting Texas southern suburb specifically.

Oddly enough, the closest I've seen to an accurate picture of where I am and grew up was fucking Trailer Park Boys. Just omit a few Canada specific cultural elements and that could be my neighborhood...

But yea, that's the peak. There are people in this region, a lot of them old, who's whole lives revolve around the success or failure of the local HS team.

If you think the south is bad take a trip to the rust belt and coal towns. There is literally no jobs and entire abandoned towns with populations of 5000 people that all just do drugs and live off welfare. Their is a reason WV is the poorest state and PA and Ohio are miserable places to live.

Again, that's what happens when you drive away your young smart population, base all of your culture around high school football, coal and church only, and on top of that have a history of isolationism and being kicked around by Yankee industry barons.

I agree with your post but this made me laugh maniacally. But the focus on sports here is fucking insane. Like I get it as a hobby and a way to meet people. But football is unironically a way of life. Thank God that the more nerdy people down here are more or less indifferent to it and that they are easy to find if you know where to find them.
