Seriously, the only reason the Coronavirus is as bad as it is is because China's shit at their jobs. The fact other countries have contained their infected while China's doing jack shit to the point of denying help from their neighbors should say a lot.

I fully expect a vaccine to be put in production soon. It'd be more a "will China accept it?" situation once it happens.

"China being shit at their jobs" means waves of infected have reached nearly every country on the planet. The infected can spread the disease even if they don't show any symptoms.

Both Moderna and Inovio say they could have enough vaccine produced 1 month from now to begin animal testing. Kim says he’s looking forward to the race. “We’re starting at the exact same time and this is a great opportunity for us to go mano a mano with Moderna,” Kim says. “I like our chances.”

CEPI’s third grant is going to researchers at the University of Queensland. They are developing a vaccine consisting of viral proteins produced in cell cultures, an older technology. Molecular virologist Keith Chappell, one of the project’s leaders, says the “aspirational goal” is to have a candidate vaccine ready for human tests 16 weeks from now. “This is incredibly ambitious and we can provide no guarantee that we can meet this target,” Chappell says. “Our team is working as hard and fast as we possibly can. It is reassuring to us that we are not the only team tasked with a response.”

Once candidate vaccines are available, researchers will test them in animals to see whether they are safe and produce an immune response. If so, companies will have to receive regulatory approvals to launch phase I human trials, which test safety and immune responses in small numbers of volunteers who are not at risk of the disease. In the case of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, approval typically takes 1 month. NIAID already has a vaccine trial network in place that plans to stage the phase I study of the Moderna vaccine; NIAID Director Anthony Fauci expects the trial could start within 3 months.

J&J scientific officer ‘pretty confident’ they can create coronavirus vaccine as outbreak widens

Johnson & Johnson’s chief scientific officer, Dr. Paul Stoffels, told CNBC on Monday that he believes the drugmaker can create a vaccine in the coming months to fight against the fast-spreading coronavirus.

But he said it could take up to a year to bring it to market.

“We have dozens of scientists working on this so we’re pretty confident we can get something made that will work and stay active for the longer term,” said Stoffels, also vice chairman of the executive committee, in a “Squawk Box” interview.

“We’ll see in the next few weeks how this goes,” he added. Stoffels confirmed the company started working on a coronavirus vaccine two weeks ago.

Anyway, for a totalitarian society China is sure doing a shit job at containing this, or maybe they made it themselves and they released it for population control or it got out because somebody at the bioweapons lab fucked up a la The Stand. If the latter, the lulzy part will come when some autist at a third world lab accidentally lets loose something REALLY fucking awful and the few remaining humans have to go back to being hunter gatherers like in Earth Abides. Speaking of lulz, the US TV network ABC made an Avian Flu movie in 2007 during another such scare, hopefully it's on YT somewhere because it's fucking hilarious.

Villages and towns in central China are taking things into their own hands and blocking access so they don't get infected. It's no wall, but they've moved heavy machinery and any vehicles onto the road to form a 'barrier' of sorts, to tell anyone coming to stay away.
 
It would be nice for this to blow over. Public health officials throughout the US have been saying it's no more serious than the flu.

Everything I've read from credible medical journals suggests otherwise, but sure. Let's give it a week or two before we say it's passed.
 
Listening to an all-news radio station (again, the Bunker is TV free) and they were talking to some scientist who said that coronavirus has the "signature" of an origin in a species of East Asian bat. He said it was likely the same species of bat behind SARS. Of course, Chinadroids will eat literally fucking ANYTHING (5000 years of routine famine and war does that to a culture) so along with these markets selling live food that is killed in front of you and then the newly dead animal is stuffed in a paper bag for the customer to take home, it's a perfect environment for something to either evolve or for introduction of a bioweapon. And yeah, when you have a place like China that has 1.5 BILLION people, including 900 million farmers for the same amount of arable land as in the US, routine cullings do become imperative for the govt to survive. Again, eventually there's gonna be a miscalculation by these tards and then we'll all be fucked.
