UK Jack the Ripper breakthrough as DNA 'finally unmasks serial killer after 136 years' - Every. Fucking. Time.

This is the face of the world's most infamous serial killer according to an author who has been studying the Jack the Ripper case for close to 30 years.

Ripper researcher Russell Edwards has used new facial remodelling technology to create this CGI black and white image of how the killer would have looked at the time.

It was after Mr Edwards used DNA evidence from the shawl of one of his victims to "prove" that Jack the Ripper was actually Aaron Kosminski, a Jewish immigrant from Poland who was one of the key suspects at the time of the horrific Whitechapel murders.

Now, in a second book on the case, Mr Edwards claims not only to have conclusively identified the Ripper, but also the reason why he mutilated his victims in such a way and how he evaded justice.

Jack the Ripper butchered and murdered at least five women in the Whitechapel area of east London over just a four month period from August to November 1888.

Three victims had internal organs removed, which led to a theory that the killer had some anatomical or surgical skills.

Police actually investigated the brutal killings of 11 women, mainly prostitutes, from April 1888 to February 1891, known as the Whitechapel murders.

It is widely agreed that the third to the seventh of them, known as the Canonical Murders, were definitely carried out by the Ripper.

Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly were killed over nine weeks from August to November 1888.

They all had their throats cuts, post-mortem injuries, including to the vagina, and body parts were taken from Chapman, Eddowes and Kelly. So, how did Mr Edwards "confirm" Kosminski as the Ripper?

PC Watkins was the officer who discovered the heavily mutilated corpse of the Ripper's fourth victims Catherine Eddowes on September 30 1888 on a pavement in Mitre Square.

Her head was nearly severed and her nose cut open. She was his second victim on the same night. A silk shawl she had was covered in blood.

Nearly 120 years later in 2007, Mr Edwards, a north London businessman, found the alleged shawl on auction in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Curious, but sceptical, he bought it and found it remarkably preserved with what appeared to be blood and even semen stains still on the garment.

It was later established that as her body was taken to the morgue, acting Police Sergeant Amos Simpson took it as a somewhat macabre "gift" for his wife, Jane.

Although she never wore it, it remained in the family for generations and was auctioned off by Sergeant Simpson’s great-great-nephew David Melville-Hayes.

Mr Edwards was surprised that such an ornate silk scarf, decorated with flowers would have been Ms Eddowes', as she was a poverty-stricken drunk

Yet, the design and dyes used appeared to be like those of the time produced in St Petersburg. This caused Mr Edwards to consider if it could have actually been a possession of Ripper suspect Kosminski, who hailed from the Russian empire.

Could he have left it at the scene, he wondered. So began a lengthy series of DNA tests on the presumed blood and semen stains, with the help of distant relatives of the victim and suspect.

Remarkably, there was a positive match for the blood stains and an unnamed direct descendant of Ms Eddowes.

A request to exhume Kosminski’s body was declined, however, the DNA found in the semen stains was also a match for one of Kosminski's sister’s descendants.

This, says Mr Edwards, is conclusive proof as to the identity of Jack the Ripper - a case that remained unsolved since 1888.

Kosminski was born on September 11, 1865, making him 22 and 23 at the time of the murders. He grew up in Klodawa, near Warsaw, the youngest of seven children, with his father dying when he was aged just eight.

His mother remarried and records suggest he may have been sexually abused by his stepfather. In 1882, six years before the murders, the family fled to the East End of London to escape anti-Semitism that was spreading across eastern Europe after the death of Tsar Alexander II a year earlier.

During the murders investigation, the Dr Robert Anderson, head of the London Criminal Investigation Department, had designated Kosminski as key suspect as the killer.

Previously confidential police reports, that were published in 1894 as the Macnaghten Memorandum, recorded that detectives believed he had a "great hatred of women, specially of the prostitute class, and had strong homicidal tendencies".

Butm even then political correctness made them reluctant to accuse a Jew, due to the potential fallout of antiSemitism.

With no known photographs of Kosminski’ ever found, Mr Edwards then contacted his descendants to obtain as many historical family portraits as possible to feed them into a sophisticated computer programme which has created his likeness based on the appearance of close relatives.

The new image shows a young man with short hair, high cheek bones and a piercing stare.

Further research by Mr Edwards has since uncovered how he believes the serial killer evaded justice due to his brother's involvement in freemasonry, and even why the mutilations took place.

In February 2023 he received several photographs, including one of 15 men all with handlebar moustaches and dressed the same in suits with an overgarment. They were revealed to be members of the Lodge of Israel, an order of Freemasonry set up for Jewish immigrants in Britain.

One of them was Kosminski’s eldest brother, Isaac, who was a wealthy tailor who had moved to London in 1870 and changed his last name to Abrahams. Remarkably, in an ancient Masonic Code, the "Master Mason", called Hiram Abiff, was murdered by three assassins, known as "The Juwes" for refusing to give up his secrets.

The fable led to the creation of thee Masonic blood oaths giving descriptions of mutilations, such as cutting throats, removing tongues, and "That my left breast had been torn open and my heart and vitals taken."

Mr Edwards is convinced that the Ripper was not a random mutilator, but was carrying out these Masonic instructions.

He also believes that the Masonic connections of his brother were probably what prevented his younger sibling's arrest, to avoid the fallout against the Jews.

More alarmingly, the Ripper left another clue at the Eddowes murder scene. Nearby scrawled in chalk was the mysterious phrase

"The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing."

With the word Juwes, spelt in the same Masonic way.

Kosminski was never arrested and in 1890, after suffering a suspected schizophrenic breakdown, in which he threatened his sister with a knife, he committed to Colney Hatch lunatic asylum in North London.

He died 28 years later in the Leavesden Asylum, Hertfordshire.

Naming Jack The Ripper: The Definitive Reveal by Russell Edwards is out now published by Rowman & Littlefield.

What did the 2009 Sherlock Holmes video game mean by this?

IIRC that game fingered (giggidy) Jacob Levy as the killer, who I was originally gonna mention before but TLDR he is another "David Cohen" style suspect, being a seemingly strong match for the "Polish Jew" who the previously mentioned officials believed to be the killer given how he was also a butcher who worked and lived locally, was institutionalised shortly after the last killing, and his asylum records indicate he was overtly homicidal and unable to control himself.

The problem is like Kosminski, most of these apparent correlations unravel when you actually take a closer look at them, from the timeline not matching up with him being thrown in the asylum years after the killings to his insanity being not quite as overtly homicidal as seemingly indicated, to the fact he was not even polish which all would likely discount him from being this unknown suspect.

Furthermore the very criminal profile in question of an uncontrollable bloodthirsty maniac who had experience in meat handling or surgery, who was visibly insane and dangerous and could only have stopped because he either died or was unknowingly imprisoned or perhaps moved elsewhere to continue his killings in another locale is a profile that is frankly a century and a half obsolete, as just about every long running serial killer (i.e. one who was not caught for a longass time) on record demonstrates someone who at worst was able to keep their heads down and refrain from overt creeper shit and chimpouts enough to successfully isolate their victims before killing them, and who was able to be inconspicuous enough to either not get noticed by the cops or to pass their police interview without arousing any suspicion for years or decades until they either slipped up or science advanced enough to identify them based on old evidence.

As for the notion that the killer would keep killing until he died or was imprisoned, this is in no way a rule with serial killers as many on record either took up to decades long breaks between killings (i.e. BTK) or straight up stopped killing until they died or were ID'd in their later years (i.e. the original night stalker/golden state killer) due to any number of factors from the notoriety of the crimes and general vigilance making giving them cold feet long enough to more or less kick their addiction to changes in personal life such as getting themselves a coom outlet beyond killing like a girlfriend or a beagle or somesuch, or hell just straight up getting bored of killing or perhaps even a teeny bit unsettled at what they had been doing.

After all, the last "canon" murder was Mary Jane Kelly, and for a killer obsessed with seeing what ladies looked like on the inside he would be pretty fuckin tapped out after what he did to her as you can confirm yourself by an uncensored google search for "mary jane kelly corpse", so the killer deciding "yeah I think I have exhausted this particular avenue of enquiry" around about the time he was whacking off over the lady's exposed bones using her ripped off breast as a very very literal fleshlight and then resolving to simply jerk it to discount offal from the local butcher should he feel the urge going forward wouldn't be especially surprising.

With regards to who I think is the best/least shit suspect as of now, honestly the only one who has more than circumstantial evidence against him, in this case a fairly unambiguous "was found with the body of a victim very shortly after she was killed in an area where the killer had no obvious way out without being seen by police patrols and locals going to work, the body itself having not been fully mutilated as if the killer was interrupted, and who acted extremely suspiciously and evasively until he fell off the radar" level of general suspiciousness along with easily as much circumstantial evidence as the likes of Kosminski and Levy given our current understanding of serial killers, was Charles Lechmere who was the first to find (or "find" if he was actually the killer) the body of the first canonical victim.

A full explainer would require me to start mailing out printouts and rigging up an old timey presentation projector so the TLDR is that he is the front runner for tangible crime scene behaviour, area of operation, and modern day serial killer profiling but even so there aint jack shit that seriously nails him.

Thread theme:

There have been some great media that derives from the Ripper murders. Even just weird asides like the Babylon 5 episode I referenced earlier, tongue in cheek. Jack is the archetypal 'educated psychopath' even if the reality was some immigrant polish Jew living in a ghetto of London.

An interesting movie influenced by the murders is The Limehouse Golem (and a book of the same name). They even use the Ripper in the marketing despite that the story is more explicitly connected with the Ratcliff Highway murders.

The director has no truck with the modern obsession of trying to out-twist the ultra-genre savvy Saw style, so you either figure it out or you don't but either way it's a good story well acted and rich with period detail for the time of Jack the Ripper. The author is a historian and it conveys its atmosphere well. Worth a look for those interested in such subject matter. Karl Marx makes a cameo.

Rezzing thread because I saw "Jack the Ripper" trending on xitter and found the grifter behind this thread's OG article is still peddling this shit and has apparently conscripted some of the victims' alleged descendents into demanding a gubmint inquest and official naming of Jack the Ripper as Kosminski, so there are a bunch more articles that will be coming out clickbaiting off this and the usual edgetards cooming about das juden. Seems this wave of coverage was inspired by said grifter pitching his book on australian TV yesterday.

(NewsNation) — The infamous killer who terrorized London women has largely been referred to as simply “Jack the Ripper” until now.

Historian Russell Edwards says he has identified Jack the Ripper as Aaron Kosminski through a DNA match of a shawl found at the scene of one of his murders.

Who is the man purported to be?
Kosminski was a Polish immigrant who came to Whitechapel, England, in 1881 alongside his brother. He became a barber once in the British capitol.

Edwards told the “Today Show Australia” that he came to purchase the shawl in 2007 after it was purported to be at the scene of the murder of Catherine Eddowes.

Kosminski, who was aged 23 at the time of the murders, has long been considered a suspect. He had schizophrenia and was in a mental asylum at the time of his death in 1919.

Thanks to Kosminski’s oldest brother’s great-great-granddaughter, the revelation was made after they provided a DNA sample.

Who was Jack the Ripper?
Jack the Ripper has lived in infamy and lore for more than a century after he committed the murders of at least five women in Whitechapel between August and November of 1888.

Police never found Jack the Ripper, who was also referred to as the “Whitechapel Murderer” and the “Leather Apron.”

He was infamous for slitting the throat of his victims before removing the internal organs of at least three people.

Some of the victims have been thought to be prostitutes, but according to Penguin Books, there is little evidence to support this.

Is it a confirmed match to Jack the Ripper?
According to the Daily Mail, Edwards has hired a legal team to help gain an inquest after he found a 100% DNA match.

Descendants of both Eddowes and Kosminski have backed this move.

As he told “Today,” Edwards and his team have sent a letter to the attorney general requesting permission to go to Britain’s High Court for a further inquest.

The hope is that Kosminski can be legally tied to the murder.

“The name Jack the Ripper has become sensationalized. It has gone down in history as this famous character,” Karen Miller, the great-great-great-granddaughter of Eddowes, told the Mail.

“What about the real name of the person who did this? Having the real person legally named in a court, which can consider all the evidence, would be a form of justice for the victims. We have got the proof. Now, we need this inquest to legally name the killer.”

Basically the TLDR of why this is bullshit is that the shawl everything hinges on was bought from a two bit "spooky jack the ripper museum" in 2007 after having been given to said museum at some unspecified point in time but IIRC the 1980s, where it was declared to have been found covered in blood and semen next to one of the victims by a policeman, with said policeman then taking it home to give to his wife despite it being ya know....evidence.... and then eventually it made its way to the museum with the story of its origin.

The sheer number of holes in the story and how much "dude just trust me..." this bullshit rests on should by itself be enough to treat this obvious grift with the contempt it deserves, but then it turns out the whole "DNA testing and proof it was Kosminski" thing is also full of shit both in terms of said proof with it being based on mitochondrial DNA that would be shared by whole segments of the population, and execution as for some strange reason the grifter has been bizarrely secretive about how he is conducting these tests.

Here is a more detailed explainer from back when he pushed this shit back in 2019

EDIT: Just did some googling and found this shawl being discussed in 2002 by ripper spergs, including a photo of the shawl being handled without gloves by three people which should give some idea as to how hilariously contaminated the shawl must be by this point. The person who took this photo and also personally vouched its authenticity was a 'Pamela Ball' and was/is a "Psychic Detective" whom a quick googling reveals to also be a self declared witch so uh....yeah.

Thank you for your invaluable contributions on this historical case, it's hard to tardwrangle sensational headlines and outlandish claims for a criminal case as popular as this one.
