There's actually no record of their marriage being filed for in any state they're likely to have done it in.

I don't really believe this is the case but the idea that this is all actually his fetish makes it less profoundly sad. I prefer the "has an embarrassing deviant sexual preference but at least it's making him happy in some way" narrative to "is completely beaten down from emotional abuse and manipulation."

This isn't specific to Jake, but it applies. Even if someone is in a terrible, unhealthy, and ultimately fatal relationship, it won't be a problem for them until THEY decide it's a problem. It's easy for you and I to sit here and see what's wrong with Jake's life, convinced he's clueless, but he might very well know and simply accept it. One of the few things we can be very sure of about Jake is that he has a need to define himself by those around him. Being on his own could be very distressing to him.

It's extremely likely that Jake has decided that staying with Alison would be less unpleasant than leaving her, and due to his own insecurity, HE MIGHT BE RIGHT.

So yeah, I look at Jake and I see a guy with problems. But I also don't see a guy desperate to solve those problems.

I was joking because I think cuckolding fetishes are funny, but like I said I don't really believe it because there is no interpretation of events where Alison isn't a heinous bitch. That's fucking sad, though.

Hmmmm. Not even married? Don't know if that's worse.
The fact is he could be in a loving monogamous relationship but peer pressure in a fucked up way has turned him into this affirmation seeking saddo.
I just want him to get away from the predatory embrace of Allison. She looks suss as fuck, like a smirking sociopath in a dress mimicking a child.
 
Jake genuinely loves Alison, which is a big reason why he's still with her, even if their lives are falling apart and even after all she's put him through over the years. Whereas I don't really get the impression that Alison is all that enamored of Jake lately.

It's going to take a hell of a lot to get Jake to the point where he leaves Alison.
