James Cameron's Avatar to get four sequels - The message will still be the same

They've made the evil humans cartoonishly evil, too, if the leaks are accurate. I'm not sure I could take the dose of Noble Savage worship that this looks like it'll turn out to be.

The worst part? They gave the blue aliens human faces, the faces of their voice actors it seems. I hate when they do that with CGI. Make them aliens, not Sigourney Weaver in blue-face. They even have black ones! How lazy, how bland. Why not just make them alien?
Three is actually some decent Avatar fanfic (no not THAT KIND) that uses the actual in universe lore to explain why Earth needs the resources of Pandora. In this excellent story the NATO successor essentially launches an invasion of Pandora and curb stomps the Navi. Eventually the Navi figure out that stone age weapons and tactics don't work against 22nd century gear.

Looks like ass, with terrible effects. And 90% of the film will take place underwater so this vomit-inducing nasty filter will bleed your eyes for about 3 hours straight.

Besides, Cameron already knows it's going to bomb hard:

James Cameron says Avatar 3 could wrap the series – if The Way of Water bombs at the box office

They are very confident in their film to be declaring those things one month before the premiere. Imagine the test screenings.

Hehe yeah, still two sequels to a movie that came out in 2009 is still something.

I have a feeling 3 will be it and the story will conclude in a book or maybe even a miniseries.

Even when they announced 3-4 sequels back in 2010 I was remember thinking..... "Yeah no, that's 11-12 HOURS of content. "

When the next one fails (Because you waited more than a decade to release it, you fucking dumbass) are you going to claim that it's because we're all racist against blue people?
What, are you not?

James Cameron has made a lot of money off of risky ideas. I'd think these Avatar sequels can't be as bad of an idea as they seem to be, except that JC did sign off on that last historic bomb of a Terminator movie. So it's entirely possible, perhaps even quite likely, that he is just retarded now.

JC did sign off on that last historic bomb of a Terminator movie.
He really did not have anything to do with Dark Fate other than his producer credit just for marketing value. Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, had more to do with it as he directed the movie. How the mighty have fallen.

He has made it pretty well known since T3 that he just continues promoting the films for money, so I don't know why everyone trusted him every time a new one came out and he endorsed it.
He had nothing to do with the third movie either. Please refer to my last post.

Well, there's "nothing" and then there's nothing. He had nothing to do with 3-5 and the TV series afaik, not even any say about whether or not they were made. If he even distractedly glanced at the DF story outline and said, "yeah, it seems possible that could return a profit" and let them run with it without even politely objecting, that's a bit worrying. Supposedly it was his idea to kill off John, but perhaps that's just him throwing himself on the grenade for damage control.

I have a tiny shred of hope the new Avatar movies will be better than most of the CGI epics coming out now, at least. I mean, the original indulged in the problematic White Savior trope and the white male villain was actually intelligent and competent. It's practically nazi propaganda by 2022 standards.

I have zero faith in the sequels. The CG looks a tad bit better than most movies that came out in almost a decade and a half, but even with that slight merit that's not saying much, and I honestly would be better off watching Bayformers in order to get the modern visual effects appeal than to sit through another 3-hour Ferngully/Dances With Wolves/Eiffel 65 Blue music video ripoff.

He promoted them, which is exactly what I said.

It's a well known story that Arnold wanted his blessing to do Rise of the Machines, and Cameron told him he didn't give a fuck and to squeeze them for as much money as possible.

So my point stands, anyone seeing James Cameron saying they were good in marketing material should have known better. I believe there was even a point where he would say one movie was good, and as soon as the next one came out he was like "that one was bad, but THIS one is actually good!"

The TV show has been the only good Terminator media since T2.

I still have no idea what the plot is besides the basics.

It's not going to bomb, but whatever it does will be called a disappointment and underperformance by people invested in the anti-Avatar narrative. As there's always the ridiculous amount the original made, which won't be matched to compare it to.

Assuming it isn't straight up bad, seeing Pandora on the screen again will be enough for people to be wowed. Just look to the positive response to the original being re-released. More people will see this than went to that. Like Top Gun Maverick, the visual aspect will be a big part of the word of mouth and the get out to the cinema audience. As people are still rediscovering cinema and the big screen since streaming started to dominate, and now after the COVID times.
