Sigourney Weaver stated that Cameron will continue "the same themes of greed and and callousness of the corporations and plight of the indigenous people."

The first sequel is due out in 2020 but if the length of time between movies, who knows if audiences will have patience if they don't get tired of the heavy environmental lecturing.

Like tens of millions of other people, I bought into the hype of Avatar. Years later, I realized I had forgotten all about the movie and I have no desire to see the movie, let alone its sequel, ever again.

These will be Cameron's most forgettable films despite almost certainly being his most profitable.

I wonder if I'll root for the humans in all of them.

You're not supposed to, but with how preachy these films are likely going to be, you'll probably be doing the right thing by the time the 2nd act starts in any of these (if you're tolerant enough not to start from the very start of things.).

The original was actually racist as fuck, too, because these natives needed some white savior to show them how to be better natives.

It was also super patronizing by implying the Na'vi are all noble savages in total harmony with nature and themselves.

Which is bullshit and almost fetishistic. In the words of Plinkett: "Savage races without technology can be just as fucking brutal to each other as we can."

Is this because Disney made Avatar land in Animal Kingdom?

Also I think it's funny that the highest grossing movie ever is universally regarded as "ok"
Has to be, otherwise I can't fathom why they extended the deal from two movies to four.

I would. Hell, they were the only relatable characters in the first film.
