Do you think the Jurassic Park one was better than the Indiana Jones one? Because the JP was unbelievably shit attempts at comedy, IJ was attempts to discuss the films as popular cinema that did a bad job. Should they all be joke videos if they are blockbusters? Alien was a huge success, should be just make memes about that because trying is for nerds? JFC

Nobody would say this stuff should be analysed like Tarkovsky, but something better than shit would be great. Things can also be funny and informative at the same time.

None of the Rental Reviews are informative, and I don't think they're trying to be. Rental Review is clearly an attempt to ape Red Letter Media's Half-in-the-Bag format, but with classic films instead of new releases. You're expected to watch them because they're funny and you like the reviewers, not because you want to learn more about the films.

I suppose I am misusing 'informative', I don't necessarily mean rare or new information, but the perspective of the people involved from knowing enough to come to a worthwhile conclusion or reveal an interesting perspective. I agree that I primarily expect informal personality-based banter from both RLM and RR, but I've come to hope for cool observations on top of that. James is pretty good at these when he feels like it, and there will always be dead episodes, but I suppose the comedy formats of RR seem poorly-executed. Rambo is another example, that goof character I wished would just go away.

Monster Madness has always been my favorite series to come out of James. It's good that he brought it back this year. James was always a film buff, not necessarily a video game fan. He's one of the only people out there who still cares about the classic monster movies from the 20's and 30's. His knowledge on the genera is basically encyclopedic and it's always a good time to hear his opinions on certain movies while providing his own, obscure background knowledge about the making of the films. Some of his early horror films are also excellent if you ever get the chance.

Fuck. This is his first video that doesn't get a pity like from me, it's genuinely unwatchable.
Agreed. Most of the Nerd's content is either hit or miss for me. He's not a good actor and I hate how he has Mike play the games for him that he'll "review" later on. When he first started he was unique because he was one of the first video game channels that had this type of content. But now that everyone does that, it's like "who the fuck is James"? There are so many better channels I'm amazed people still watch AVGN.

Yeah this is another one of those episodes he focuses more on the effects than the actual content.

"James doesn't actually play the games on AVGN!"

Well, I hope you guys are happy.

I skipped the intro. I typically skip the little promos creators do now as it's getting a little obnoxious. Why the fuck is it splitscreen with a zoom in on the screen with James' hands? It's so weird seeing the video like this and it just feels like it's unscripted. One of the fat guys told James "Just riff and do that thou shit!" The whole schtick just isn't funny. The skit is dogshit. Nostalgia Critic levels of bad. Only thing that separates this from Nostalgia Critic is that there an actual set. A cheap-looking set. But a set nonetheless. It feels so weird that they tried to do a 1 take of the whole thing and I doubt it was for artistic reasons. This isn't that camera shot in Goodfella's. Feels like they filmed it like this to get it done as quick as possible. The puppet dragon at the end was charming. So for the dragon it gets a 0.5 out of 10.

I watched the first few minutes of it and tuned out. What is this split screen nonsense? I can't see the fucking game.

It's done in one shot? Whoop dee doo.

"It's shot in one continuous take!" Nigga you sacrificed every ounce of quality for that gimmick. It's a Halloween episode, you couldn't have pulled out at least one old CRT TV? You have to use the Monster Madness set? Did you wake up and realize that Halloween's almost here and you didn't have a video ready, so you scrambled to make one as fast as possible?

Caught up with all this new hot goss finally.

Didn't know what was going on. While I didn't think too deeply on the Trespasser video, I remember thinking at the time it seemed light on content, especially for a trainwreck like that game.

I only just learned of Screenwave this past January when I tried ordering the Game Sack blurays. Eight months of radio silence, no replies to my emails asking to cancel then suddenly in August I see a charge on my card and my order arrived the next day.

If they can't even run a business, what is James doing using them of all people if he really needs to expand out?
