it's a more streamlined version of trespasser. FOV is pretty low, but it's a pretty neat game worth your time. If trespasser was far cry, then peter jackson's king kong would be far cry instincts predator if that makes sense

So wait, people are writing James' material now or is Screenwave funding it?
 
I would be interested in when it began. Sonic 06 was a decent attempt at re-conjuring the magic, and was a classic of post-enthusiasm AVGN, so I suspect James was still behind that. The last I remembered liking was Tomb Raider, but I may be biased because that game is funny-bad. The recent ones have been full of dead weight skits and leaden writing, even lower than previous uninspired stuff. I recall one bit in the Trespasser video where previously the game footage would reflect the point being expressed, but in this instance it was as though they didn't have the footage to show what was in the script. Kingdom Hearts has some of the nitpicking autism that makes James good, so it may be only the last few videos(?)

Edit: correction, it's been going on for quite a while. Still not sure of any theorised date that the change occurred at.

CinemassacreTruth is like Archfiend levels of shit. They've been trying to get SamandTolki posters to follow along to their sperging and nobody cares. It's hard to get anyone to care when the overwhelming majority of the threads are about the non-James elements, who are so boring most people would just outright ignore rather than try to rise up against them.

If James is having people write his scripts and basically run the whole show while he just parrots the lines, maybe it's time he just retired. He had a great run, he's more than capable of holding down a regular job that won't suck so much time away from his family, and he could still do little projects here and there on the side. He's a solid guy who managed not to end up a cow, but why keep the show on life support.

He has two kids now. That's most likely why. Plus it has to be nice to have the ability to retire by the time you hit your 40's.

Has anyone noticed that there has been more sketches in AVGN videos since Screenwave took over?

It seems like whoever the fuck is writing James' material is really taking from NC. James never really did sketches or skits, but rather wraparound segments in relation to the game with him interacting with characters from the game as they try to fuck with him. The past few videos, there's been quite the increase of a few sketches within the video that don't really have to do with the game nor have any wraparound story surrounding it, and I find it pretty odd that this has been occurring.

He also saved his sketches for side-series like You Know What's Bullshit (which I think he said he was bringing back semi-recently?). A Screenwave YKWB episode might make me want to kill myself, it was already streteching the fake misunderstanding/rage over basic concepts to Jerry-Seinfeld-with-downs-syndrome levels.

It's shit. The skits, the guest stars, the shitty special effects, the new-ish games James Rolfe probably doesn't know or care about but makes videos about anyway because other people tell him to (you also can't tell me that he gives a flying fuck about Kingdom Hearts, I just don't buy it). It's all superflous and it feels like it's only there to stretch out the length of the episode. Take that shit cooking skit in the Trespresser review for example: it didn't add anything to the video, it was just there because shit = funny.

Sure, he had small skits and his friends in costumes and whatever for a long time, but right now it's becoming NC levels of bad and I wish he would just focus on the games instead like he used to.
I've been around since the first TMNT video, and right now, in my opinion, it's never been as shitty and cringey as it is now.

And does he really need to shill for headphones at over three million subscribers?

Also bring back Bootsy.

I want to get angry but I kind of can't. If I was in James' position, I'd do exactly the same thing. it sucks but you can tell the guy lost interest years ago. This would explain why it seems like he can't make up his mind most of the time though. Shit's old.

I guess I will skiping monster madness for now on I never really like rental reviews always find them uninteresting.

Personally for the AVGN videos made under screenwave has a bit inconsistent quality to them with some I enjoy but others I skip I just hope it doesn't take a huge dive quality wise on the levels NC. I am not surprised James has people doing stuff for his videos with how labor intensive it can be alongside rising a family and lost of interest. Just hope it doesn't go out of control like it has happened with content creators before.
