Final Part of the 200th episode is out!! Will it end on a high or dissatisfying note? Tune in to find out!
Welp... that's that. It's probably the least worst of the three parts of the 200th episode. It's only like 5% clip show compared to the other parts, meaning there's a lot more original reviews here than the other two parts. Most of the jokes in the episode were still cringe, but some of them weren't as bad compared to those in the other two parts (I actually found myself chuckling to some of them). Also, the storyline ended up being slightly less stupid than I thought it would be, and it wasn't set up to be a stealth advertisement for an upcoming AVGN game after all, so that's good.

That said... boy this episode sucked. I still stand by that the Game Gear tapes episode is worse, but very slightly worse. I can certainly understand some thinking vice versa because this was suppose to be a milestone episode, and it is so underwhelming that one would think that it wasn't a milestone episode. (with the only real indication of it being such lies at the last five or ten minutes of the episode).

Seriously, after all the crap the show spewed out this year, I hope it goes on hiatus for several months, I don't want to even see a new episode in March.

This was good background noise at first but it just kept getting worse and worse. James sucks at acting and really needs someone to tard wrangle him and it shows. His skit at the end was the absolute worst with his whole "I forgive you!" spiel that was annoying. It also feels self-indulgent to put in everyone that appeared in Avgn in the credits as though this was some grand episode when it was really a clipshow. It doesn't help this entire episode could've easily been condensed into one if it was just the games the Nerd didn't cover and he just promoted his other videos that covered LJN already.

I like how he retcons his take on the wrestling games in the review "I have to admit these are really fun!" Are they? He didn't sound like he liked them in the original video. He liked Wrestlemania The Arcade Game which was by Midway and not LJN. I played a few of those LJN WWF games back in the day and no, they did not hold up.

Haven't watched yet but saw they added this disclaimer at the bottom of the description:
View attachment 2819182
Little disclaimer: This episode was split into 3 parts because it's runtime is over an hour long in total. This made it easier to edit as we go. Also, Episode 200 was not made to sell a video game. The BTTF game you see (made in Unity by Sam) is just a plot device and not a "real" releasable game. Regardless, Sam's Unity files will be put online for free at the end of the 200 saga, next week. However, there is an upcoming 8-Bit NES AVGN game coming late next year, but it is completely unrelated to these episodes. Sorry if anyone was a little confused!
Yeah, I think they had to re-edit the episode to remove all mentions of this 8-Bit AVGN game.

14:35 old as fuck and cringe reference to The Bird is the Word meme.

The Revolution X bit could have been good. Rex Viper -contrary to my prediction- does NOT appear. Although, I'm willing to bet they originally did appear and were edited out. But like the rest of the reviews it's too short. Most of the new reviews in this needless 3-parter are reduced to a minute or two tops and don't even really scratch the surface. The 12 Days of Shitsmas series (which also focused on short and sweet reviews) were much more in depth on the games he reviewed.

My god this was awful.

Well james, you finally got to your precious 200th episode, and it was as big of a disaster. A goddamn clipshow. tune in next time to see if 201 can somehow make my expectations go even lower.

I mean from my understanding is he cannot do a good AVGN episode anymore because he has run out of games he has extensive knowledge and experience on and has for quite some time. I think anyone with some basic editing skills and childhood memories of a notoriously bad or obscure game they played a bunch because their parents got them it for Christmas could draft a funny post commentary script over gameplay footage. The funny jokes and wit comes from a persons experience with the game/movie/whatever. Coming up with jokes and finding flaws in the games are easy when you went through it either by yourself or with friends decades ago and recall all the crude jokes you made at the products expense and sharing it with the viewer in an authentic manor.

Now I bet he pulls up a top 50 worst games list on google and picks one he thinks is good enough for an AVGN episode, plays if for a while and makes surface level jokes and takes on the game and its mechanics which produces a mediocre video. Probably doesn't help that he wants to push his garage band while being a dad and husband. In short it wouldn't surprise me if he becomes less and less interested doing this shit for much longer unless he is so financially dependent on it he is forced to continue. It's literally the same concept as writers block but for video content creators and added lack of passion caused by pursuing new ventures.

I kinda like Revolution X (only the arcade version) its repetitive and hard as fuck (specifically getting all members) but killing those NON members with flaming laserdiscs is always fun imo.

Also, the SNES version sounds good because its soundtable is very similar to the original arcade version.

Well it is official: the 200th episode was complete crap. This part was probably the best of the three, but it still was really lackluster. The final reflection about LJN and the process of making video games was super lazy. It is probably the worst thing about the entire episode. Yeah, it is a decent reminder to critics of any media. Especially towards people involved in the "angry" reviewer craze like James and Channel Awesome. But he went the route of "Oh you shouldn't criticize somebody if you can't produce a good product as well!" line of bullshit.

It is made worse by the buildup to it. There was none. James never actually spent anytime in the episode exploring LJN's behind the scenes history or present any evidence that it was behind the scenes problems that made LJN produce so many shitty games. They could have just as easily been money grubbing fucks who put out half-assed game after half-assed game just so they could make money. This final reflection comes out of nowhere because outside of his shitty skits he doesn't actually spend anytime during the review exploring this topic.

I have to wonder if James and Screenwave went this route only so they could use it as a vehicle to counter all the criticism they have been receiving. Seriously think about everything he says at the end and compare it to what has been going on the past few months with his fans starting to turn on him more and more:

"You don't really know what it is like to produce video content. It is a very hard, difficult process. You shouldn't be so hard on us."

Sub count means jack shit, quit being vapid. Get Justin and Bimmy's chodes out of your mouth and think before posting please.
I have no idea who Justin or Bimmy are... I watch AVGN video here and there when I am in the mood... are these names I should know? (I assume these are people who "own" the brand as of today, but fuck off if you think I religiously follow goddamn youtube creators.)

My main point still stands... From where I am sitting, he sold out. He took a bunch of money up front in exchange for a steady income while other people did the grunt work. He had been doing this character for 15+ years and was burned out... he got some dollars, reduced his workload and everybody was theoretically happy.... Obviously that isn't how it's playing out... but that's how I read it.

Yes. It's lackluster. Very few TV shows are still at the top of their game after 17 seasons and 200 episodes. Take it or leave it. I don't know what else can be said.

Unless this is the series finale (which we all know it's not) then that whole credit sequence felt like something they threw in to as you said, be epic. I'm just waiting for James to update us about his 2022 plans. If somehow this is the end of the show, then I will be shocked.

I was curious to see if James would be on here. I was cautiously optimistic when I typed in his name and only found he was mentioned in an anti cow thread. But unfortunately I then typed in Cinemassacre and found that the truthers have made their way from the cesspits of Reddit to here on the farms. Oh well.

I liked it. But I do agree with you on the hanging it up thing. I want him to make content that he wants to make. Stuff he’s passionate about.
The problem is that James doesn't seem to be passionate about anything he does except for Rex Viper, which no one and I mean no one except for James wants to do.

I want whats best for him too, James seems like a decent man. But its quite clear he is just burnt out on gaming Youtube and AVGN in general. He clearly is not a gamer, even though everyone acts like he is. James just likes watching movies and pretty much everything from the 80s. The longer he does the nerd, the more he has to get away from the 80s/early 90s. And the more he does that the more his lack of knowledge or care for anything shows.

I find it kind of ironic that TCT was established as a place where people could talk about Cinemassacre freely without fear of getting banned by Mike or that other guy.
Yet if you say anything about Cinemassacre that’s the least bit positive, you get downvoted to oblivion and pretty much chased off the sub.
I also find it ironic that they call Cinemassacre fans “fanboys that worship James like a god” when they themselves worship Bootsy like a god and suck Red Letter Media’s cock despite them being big fat disgusting slobs as much as screenwave.
The place shat on Mike for half a decade and whined about wanting him gone until they were blue in the face. Then when he finally leaves and they get what they want, they bitch about him not being there.
Then their opinion on Kyle Justin. They think he and James had a falling out when in reality, Kyle is no longer there for two of the reasons they shit on James for. Those reasons being “No Time” and Muh Kids” due to Kyle’s construction business and him having 4 kids.

The place used to be about searching for the truth like the name implies but now it’s devolved into the same 5 overplayed memes and people making up conspiracies. I find it ironic that the Game Grumps have had far more and far worse scandals and drama surrounding them, yet Rant Grumps is a much more civilized place to be.

There are things that some of the more normal people on there say that I agree with. I personally think James is terrible with communication and would have spared a lot of trouble if he made a video a few years ago where he explains that he’s burnt out on doing the majority of the work and wants to spend more time with his family. He could have then introduced the screenwave guys and said that they’re gonna be helping him with scripts and things. He’s terrible at communicating.

As I’ve previously stated, I think James should end AVGN and focus on content that sparks his passion. Hell, even if it’s Rex Viper. If Rex Viper makes him happy, I want him to keep doing it. Which is funny considering the truthers used to say the exact same thing as I did AKA “I want him to do what makes him happy” until he did Rex Viper and they all went “But not like that!”

I’m ranting at this point, it’s just annoying as hell how these Redditors act despite them being the opposite side of the same coin that the fanboys are on.

You guys can call me dumb all you want but I’m not wrong.
TCT is a cesspit and the majority of truthers are hypocrites.

Finishing the LJN library was a fundamentally flawed idea for an episode when you look at the games that were left on the list. They were mostly sports games that James had nothing interesting to say about. He even admits as much with that Dreamcast racing game. I know LJN is a big running gag with him, but there had to be a better way to handle it than spending a few seconds apiece on a bunch of bog standard wrestling games. And the running joke with that English game dev was done so poorly that it felt completely out of place. These three eps were some of the most forgettable he's ever made.
