I also autistically had a thought about this after watching the episode, way after seeing it: I think a lot of the humor was done wrong in the new episodes prior to this one. There was just plain anger at the game being bad, without the setup of him being frustrated at the game first. For me the laughs at the anger come when he gets frustrated at the game first. When there's a tangible reason for him to be that angry at the game. When he tries to accomplish something but can't because of how terrible the game mechanics are. The game just plain being bad doesn't have the same effect.

The boat scene in the latest video is a great example of that. Trying hard -> Frustration -> Outburst(s).

I really hope Mike keeps being involved and James is able to slow down the AVGN videos and do quality over quantity from now on.

And I know a lot of fans of his would be upset, but why doesn't the man just do a proper Patreon? Having to advertise it is no less annoying than doing 1 minute ads for NordVPN or some other shit. And that'd give him enough cash to be able to just do what he loves, instead of having to play the YouTube algorithm game to chase some cash, plus he wouldn't have to be worried about being demonetized. He might upset some viewers with it and lose 100-200k views per video, but that'd sure as fuck be made up on and then some on Patreon.

All his oldschool fans are now at the very least 20+ now, and will have some cash to spare for the man they've been watching for 15 years(!) now. Hell, I'd throw in 3 bucks a month for the promise of getting one quality episode every 50 days or so. Plus after 16-15 years of doing this without one, he out of all the content creators is the one that has proven he isn't in it just for a quick cash grab. It's his proper job.
The median CPM for sponsor mentions is incredibly high. A few years ago a survey done by Hank Green's Internet Creators Guild found that the median CPM was $30 with some outliers making significantly more (https://medium.com/internet-creators-guild/brand-deal-17e60288ea65). If James gets that much, considering AVGN videos still get about a million views or so, that would be $30k for one of those minute long ads on an AVGN video (this is part of why people like NakeyJakey and Jontron can have long gaps between videos and still make a killing).

For an example from a quick search, here's someone who shows his emails about some of the offers he's gotten (including RAID accepting his counter of $5k and only expecting 250k views on the video which comes out to a $20 CPM): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSm8pjCKoJI (At that same rate an AVGN video should get $20k.)

If he ever does decide to open a Patreon you'll probably see it added on top of the sponsorships like a lot of others do.

So someone on the reddit posted that Kyle Justin is the sole owner of the AVGN theme song.
I double checked the public record and it seems its true

justin's reasoning was because the theme has bad words and the algorithm doesn't like that, so that's why they use it less and less...makes more sense they just don't wanna pay kyle every time.
I think it’s got something to do with the Algorithm too.
I don’t think James and Kyle ever had a falling out like some people claim. Ironically, Kyle stopped appearing in videos because he had “No Time” and because of his 4 “Muh Kids.”

There are a few anger scenes that felt a bit forced, but still tolerable.

As much as it was nice to see a new AVGN episode that actually felt like one, I feel like this point is glossed over too much. It wasn't just a few anger scenes that felt forced, the entire video had a forced, uncomfortable energy to it, and I couldn't enjoy it because of that.

It was like when you and your boy/girlfriend have drifted apart after some time and you're both trying to "re-create" that time when you were madly in love but you can both feel it's just not working, it's not the same anymore. Or when a has-been musician is on stage and you can feel him sweating bullets, trying to put on the same electric performance he did 15 years ago and you just feel bad for him.

Still, it's nice to have a glimmer of hope for Bimmy's redemption arc.
