I had the Game Gear Version of The Lion King. The monkey puzzle in that version was actually more doable. Still was a “Guide Dang It” though.

Having watched the new Scott the Woz episode and this back to back, there's a huge contrast in quality between the two. The entire video is about cats because there's nothing to talk about in this game to sustain a full-length video with the "jokes" being all about cats. James really needed the video game enthusiast/autist known as Mike to help write the scripts. You can tell Scott is passionate about what he talks about and has an interest while James is just reading off a script. In short, this is another boring and unfunny video. I'll still watch AVGN out of that familiar comfort food but there are much better video game reviewers nowadays

EDIT: Add in that his recent videos have shown old clips/references to his earlier videos, which is like, remember when I talked about that? or remember those videos? Sort of reminds me of how reboots/remakes include references to the previous version/nostalgia pandering like in the latest Jurassic Park film

It was so funny in 2008 when the nerd joked about doing this when he was an old man and reviewing games for the Wii.

It was so funny, we didn't realize it wasn't a joke. Because we live in hell world where the devil is the Loco Bandito himself and our eternal punishment is to watch jokes become our horrible reality as we forever toil building with brown bricks and shitting on spics.

Episode was okay, though. Not great, but watchable.
Isn't Party Babyz that game that IGN preferred over God Hand?
I believe God Hand got a 4/10 for being too hard, but Party Babyz got a whopping 8/10. Because journalistic integrity.

Bleh, mediocre. Definitely several steps down from both the Contra and Last Ninja episodes. The credits say he had "help" from Kieran, and not Mike, explaining the episode's mediocrity.
I liked the part he rambled about cat behavior.
A single Wii shovelware hasn't appeal for a whole AVGN review because they are simply mediocre and bland, it's not like there's much to say unless it's a total disaster.

I feel this would've been much better as a short part of a longer Wii episode.

The video wasn't as entertaining as the last 3(?), But it was also inoffensive. Didn't hate it. Had a few laughs. I am a cat person, though, so there is bias.

RIP Boo.

Yeah, the Wii was the last shovelware console before everything went to mobile. At this point, he's scrapping the bottom of barrel. This was a mediocre, forgettable and disappointing episode especially after he has been taking a hiatus and a few good episodes.

So he finally reviewed a Wii game. Partially fulfilling the prophecy of the Xmas video where he reviews Far Cry on Wii.

Reminder: the Xmas episode came out 15 years ago in 2007...

I thought this video was going to be a subverting of expectations kind of thing. Like it was going to open with a review of this and then it would divulge into something bizarre. Kind of like the Mr. Plinkett review of Cop Dog. I hate to say it, but this is not a very good episode. The little tribute to his old cat Boo (who was in the Jaguar episode and was on the Rolling Rocker) got me in the feels because I get that. Why wait two years to make a tribute to your old cat? I don't know.

It say's help by Kieran.

Overall: 4/10 episode. At least it's not terrible cringe but it's just tired and boring.

Cop Dog didn't subvert my expectations. I don't even remember the sketch parts. I just remember the fucking horrible movie and the way Mike tore it apart for being miserable and traumatizing and just generally not good.

Reminds me of mentions Zero Punctuation has made recently where he commented on how all his *bad* ideas become reality.

I went from binging Rolfe to binging ZP recently. Back in the day the latter appealed to me because I was going through a "most new games suck" phase and I liked someone validating that. Ironic how now both of them are somewhat nostalgic and feel to me like they haven't really changed. Yahtzee has probably held up better though, since with him you get to see a sort of evolution of the person (like how his stance on anime went from "cancerous weeb shit" to "well I like some things but its still mostly cancerous" or how he started out hating the Souls series but is now an ardent fan)... whereas with Rolfe it feels like he's just pining for his glory days.

Hang in there Rolfe. Someone will invent that age-reversing drug from Detective Conan, and possibly also a time machine.

I would rather it be James just talking than him continuing the AVGN. His videos about his daughters' Mario Maker courses were entertaining. I want more stuff like that if the AVGN isn't that good. He burnt out his catalog I guess. All the best content is old now. Surreal to think episodes like Ghosts and Goblins, Tiger Electronics, Hong Kong 97, Atari Sports, and Big Rigs are classic episodes now. I remember when they were new and hilarious. Even episodes I consider "new" like CD-32 are from 3-4 years ago.

Not sure why James' never decided to become a film reviewer type youtuber where he just talks about movies. That's where his passion truly lies and he can geek out more in-depth about films while occasionally doing AVGN. I know that's what he's known for but he could branch out as his monster madness were always a treat. Not saying he'd be super successful but there'd be more care and love to it than what he's doing now.

Though even though he doesn't have the passion for AVGN or video games in general, he needs to at least find a better writer for his scripts as Kieran can't write for shit. The whole wii shovelware types of reviews was done better and funnier by Scott the Woz than his last episode. If nothing else, try to get Mike back into writing the scripts again by paying him more or something. Again, I'm not saying the last episode was terrible, it was just extremely boring and unfunny

I thought it was okay; not terrible, not a classic.

Basic bitch disclaimer: I also think it's cute when he talks about cats.

New episode is meh, definitely not as great as the last two episodes, but if I were to rank and compare this episode with the episodes from the last two seasons, this episode would be higher up on the list. When the jokes land they are alright and not overdoing it for the most part. Still, this game would be better off as a Christmas special (where the AVGN would review a variety of different games) rather than a regular AVGN episode.

If AVGN were to review Nintendo Wii games I think it would be better for him to take a look into the Data Design Interactive games in my opinion, especially that the games were almost about the same.
